Super Sized Fall Rally
Saturday afternoon, the 8th of October, the sun
was out and the wind was blowing so hard that you had to stand down wind to
hear what someone was trying to tell you.
But we had 20 cars and 40 people show up for the Super Sized 2005 Fall
Rally at the two start/finish points; one at the Red Rock Overlook and the
other at the WalMart parking lot on Lake Mead Parkway
in Henderson. We had to use rocks and
clocks and anything else we could get our hands on to hold down the
registration papers, but we managed to complete the registration and drivers
meeting and kick the first cars out at 1:01 PM.
The Rally was set up as a loop around the
This Rally marks the first time (to my knowledge) that a
rally was run in a loop with the same start/stop location for each car and
multiple start/stop locations along the loop.
We had 17 cars starting and finishing at the Red Rock Overlook location,
and seven cars starting and finishing at the WalMart
location. (Well, only 16 cars finished
at the Red Rock Overlook location. See
the next paragraph.)
One of the objectives of the Rally was to provide such clear
instructions that nobody would get lost.
Well, we didn’t quite meet that objective in that one of the 20 cars got
lost. We will work to fix that for the
next Rally even if we have to provide pictures.
Another objective of the Rally was to maximize the number of
Rally awards so that at the Corvette Roulette Rally, all of the award winners
will go home as enthusiastic ambassadors for next years Corvette Roulette. We met this objective BIG TIME by having 30
awards given to 26 of the 40 participants.

I would like to acknowledge the hard work of all those
helpers that made this Rally a success.
Art and Sharron Mikuta
helped me establish the objectives and strategy for the Rally and lay out the
initial Rally route. Don and Kathy Gregori helped me refine and fine tune the Rally route and
get the initial participant sign-ups.
Jim Ranney supervised the Red Rock Overlook
start/stop location and helped with the final Rally route definition. Jim and Debra Leatham
supervised the WalMart start/stop location. Larry and Irene Duis,
and Ken and Michael Rees helped Jim Ranney work the
Red Rock Overlook start/stop location.
And last, but not least, Judy Hastings patiently put up with all my
Rally related time away from home and on the computer, and reviewed all the
Rally related documents for errors and confusing statements. My sincere thanks to all that were involved
in this successful Rally.
