General Membership Meeting - November 14, 2019 - Minutes

President Bonnie Corbett called the meeting to order at 7:30p.m. Linda Simpson lead the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance.

There were 73 members and 15 guests at the meeting tonight.

Findlay Chevrolet: It was with a heavy heart Slim Stephens informed Membership that his father, John Stephens, was in failing health. Mr. Stephens was a founding member of Las Vegas Corvettes Association. Scott Mergele announced the information for the Findlay Thanksgiving Car Show. We will meet at 6:30 a.m. to park our Corvettes together. The Car Show is Sunday, November 24th from 8a.m. to 2p.m. This is a community service event for all members who donate, see Scott for donations. The event is hosted by the Las Vegas Cruisin' and the money will be donated to YMCA.

Minutes: A motion was made by Roy Hoernke and seconded by Dawn Gregorio. The Motion was carried.

Birthdays: The birthdays for November were read by Lin Hoernke.

President's Report: President Bonnie Corbett wanted to remind membership that you must be a registered member in good standing by December 1st to vote in the December's elections.

Treasurers Report: Connie Gentry reported the financials were checked by Connie and Bonnie; the financials were deemed to be in great shape.

Old Business: Sally McVane, chairperson of the nominating committee opened the floor for nominations on the upcoming elections. The election for our 2020 leadership will be held at the December meeting. Nominations were as follows:


Director: Skip Kelley and Lin Hoernke were both nominated for Director and both declined. Rudy Blum was nominated by Scott Mergele and seconded by Skip Kelley. Rudy excepted the nomination. Rudy gave an outstanding speech.

Treasurer: Connie Gentry was nominated for Treasurer by Jeff Blue and seconded by Tony Byrd. Connie accepted the nomination for Treasurer. Connie's speech was excellent.

Secretary: Brenda Cavallo and Holley Holran were both nominated for Secretary and both declined. Cheryl Blum was nominated by Benita Klaizner and seconded by Roy Hoernke. Cheryl accepted the nomination.

Vice President: Scarlett Montoya was nominated for VP, a motion was made by Skip Kelley and seconded by Roy Hoernke. Scarlett accepted and gave a lovely speech.
President: Benita Klaizner was nominated for President, a motion was made by Gino Montoya and seconded by Jeff Blue. Benita accepted the nomination. Her speech was very motivating.

Sally asked for any other nominations from the floor. No more nominations were presented. A motion to close all nominations was made by Kathy Ackeret and seconded by Jeff Blue. Motion was carried. Nominations for officers were closed.

New Business: Kathy Ackeret announced our guests for the evening. Carlos Moran, Karen Salk, Dan & Theresa Means, Daniel Groiette, Doyle Jensen and Angela Servoss, April Fischer, Michele Cox, Charles and TiAnn Hildenstab, Ales, Lea, & Pavla Grna (from the Czech Republic) and Michael Hart. The club welcomes you all. New Members joining tonight are: Charles Hildenstab, Daniel and Theresa Means, Doyle Jensen and Angela Servoss. No new members received joining plaques tonight.

Committee Reports: Sunshine - Benita Klaizner informed us that Connie Gentry's mother passed away this past week, she was 94. Lanny Lowman is in the hospital for hernia surgery. Irene Duis fell and broke her arm in 3 places while cleaning up after the Breakfast in the Park event. She is doing well. Slim Stephens was travelling to Spokane to be with his father who was in failing health. lost his Father. Kay and Ron Petersen are celebrating their 64th Wedding Anniversary this month, Ales and Lea Grna (guests from Czech Republic) are celebrating their 26th Anniversary. Racers Edge - Ken Rees told us the last Autocross of the year is December 8th. Vice President - VP Marsha Borders reminded the membership that the Banquet is located at the Liberace Mansion. Price is $70 per person. For more info, please contact Marsha. Street Teens - There is still time to donate to Street Teens for a community service point, contact Sally McVane. Breakfast in the Park - Irene Duis announced that $206.00 was raised from the event and turned in to the club.

Events: Ken Ackeret invited Bob and Jan Humphrey up to tell us about a past event, the Temple Bar event. Gino & Scarlett is chairing a committee service for Adopt a Family, supported by Nellis Support Team, all donations earn you a community service point and they will continue to collect through the end of November. Gino & Scarlett also spoked about the Ely Ghost Train event and thanked everybody for participating. Jacket Drive is being chaired by Ken & Kathy Ackeret. They are participating with Transforming a Life and are asking for donations, all donations will earn a community service point. November 15th is the UNLV Homecoming Parade, Benita is asking for volunteers with an Corvette convertible to drive the homecoming Queen and escorts in the parade. All participates will earn a community service point. Carl Hastings will be holding our annual Suitcase Drive for Child Haven at the December meeting. Please bring gently used suitcases or backpacks to our December meeting and earn a community service point. November 24th is the Findlay Thanksgiving car show. See flyer on the website and/or contact Scott Mergele. December 7th is the Adopt A Kettle for the Salvation Army at the Smiths Store in Aliante. You will earn a community service point by volunteering. Contact Jimmy or Brenda to sign up for an hour shift between 10a.m. to 7p.m. December 13th is the Cookie Exchange chaired and hosted by Sandra Hart, noon to 4p.m. Bring 3 dozen cookies for exchanging and 1 dozen to share for tasting. The Awards Banquet is January 18th at the Liberace Mansion. Connie Gentry is chairing Laps for Charity at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on January 26th, this is a community service event for Speedway Children's Charity.

Miscellaneous Announcements: Tommy DeGennaro announced, their home will be featured on The Great Christmas Lights Fight, ABC station on December 16th.

Clean Car Award: Roy Horenke presented Scott White with the Clean Car Award.

Badge Drawing: Badge Drawing was won by Bob Humphry for $31.00. 50/50: $180.00 was won by Terry Rees and she then donated a portion to the Adopt a Family - Nellis Support Team. Raffle were held.

A motion to adjoin was made by Jeff Blue and seconded by Kathy Ackeret, motion was carried. Meeting was adjourned at 9:17 p.m.
