General Membership Meeting - July - Minutes

The July 11, 2019 meeting was called to order by President Bonnie Corbett at 7:32 P.M. at the Sun City MacDonald Ranch Community Room. There were 67members and 6 guests present. Bonnie welcomed all who were in attendance. Bonnie led us in the pledge of allegiance.

Findlay Chevrolet: Slim Stephens thanked our membership for all the business we send their way and LVCA for choosing Findlay for repairs. A special Thank You went to Paul, our resident Vette Tech for all he does. Scott Mergele announced that on Saturday, August 5th the number 88 Monster Energy Cup Series Car will be on display at Findlay. Also, they are having a very special event on August 29th. Details will follow later in the meeting.

Birthdays for July were read by Lin Hoernke.

President’s Report - Bonnie reminded everyone she sent an E-Blast for her President’s Run regarding reservations for her event at the Queen Mary. Bonnie also read a letter from the Silver State Challenge Committee thanking LVCA for all their help staging the race.

Treasurer’s Report - Connie Gentry said we are looking good financially.

Old Business: By-laws – Carl Hastings presented a By-Law change, submitted by Ken Rees, to the duties of the Membership Chairperson. In discussion it was agreed that “documenting proof of corvette ownership for renewing members” would be satisfied by the renewing member stating, on their renewal, that they were still a Corvette owner. The majority vote approved the change to the By-Law.

Skip Kelley submitted a by-law change that “write in” candidates should not be allowed on the Ballot for December elections. Voting will be held on this matter at the August Meeting.

Lennard Grodzinsky, webmaster, announced that our new Club Express website will be working beginning September 2019. In order to use the website for renewals, Lennard proposed that the Standing Rules be changed to allow for sending out the renewals a little later. The request was to send out the renewals on October 1st and have payments due by November 15th. Carl Corbett made a motion to approve and it was seconded by Skip Kelly. The motion was approved.

Kathy Ackeret, Membership Chairman, presented plaques to new members, Brian and Maria Anderson. A new member joining tonight was Cheryl Blum. Guests this evening were Elena and Roy Hoernke III, Cheryl Blum, Karen Salk, and David and Sandi Anderson. Welcome to all.

Racers Edge – Ken Rees said there are two more Drag Racing Events for the year.

Vice President – Marsha Borders announced she has found a possibility for our 2020 Banquet. That venue is the Liberace Mansion, and she is continuing to explore the possibility of having our event there. She is also looking into the Bali Hai Golf and Country Club as a possibility for events.

Director, Mike Borders, Skip Kelly and Scott White explained the pros and cons of staying with NCCC. They asked membership if they should keep looking into other insurance companies. The Straw Vote was overwhelming that they should continue exploring the possibility of using another insurance company.

Publicity Chair – Sharron announced Findlay will have a special event on August 29th. It will be an all-day event and the new, mid-engine C8 will be revealed. Findlay is requesting we have 20 Corvettes park outside the dealership for the day. Anyone interested, please contact Scott Mergele at sdmergele@me.com.

Events – Ken Ackeret announced the theme word for this month was “HOT.” Count how many times he says the word.

Upcoming Events - July 27th Brenda and Jimmy Cavallo are hosting an event at the mob museum. It’s $14.00 to get into the museum and then dinner at the Freedom Beat restaurant in the grand Hotel. Meet on the steps of the museum at 2:30 P.M. On August 10th Barry will be having a Dam Run. On August 22nd there will be a meet and greet for the Corvette Caravan, hosted by Sandra Hart. August 24th is the Mount Charleston Run headed by Connie Gentry. Meet at 10:15A.M. at the Santa Fe Hotel and Casino parking lot. Lunch is $20.00. This is a Community Service, so $5.00 per person will go to the Mt. Charleston Volunteer Fire Department. Drag Races are September 7th and September 28th. Silver State Challenge is September 12-15th. On September 29th, a wine tasting at Sanders Winery in Pahrump is being hosted by Jan and Bob Humphrey.

Miscellaneous Announcements – Holley Holran announced she is selling her 1976 Red Corvette Stingray, with wire wheels, and modifications.

Clean Car Award – Roy Hoernke gave out the clean car award to Larry Duis. Congratulations Larry.

Badge Drawing – Ralph Terry who was not present.

Raffle was held. The 50/50 was $160.00, and was won by Carl Hastings.

Motion to Adjourn: Kathy Ackeret made a motion to adjourn which was seconded by Roy Hoernke. The motion was carried and approved. The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 P.M.
