The meeting was called to order by President Skip Kelley
at 7:30 p.m. at the Sun City MacDonald Ranch. There were 46 members
and 6 guests present. Skip welcomed all in attendance. In honor of Veterans
Day, Skip asked all veterans to lead us in the pledge of allegiance.
Findlay Chevrolet: Slim Stephens thanked Paul Patane for his
excellent work. Findlay appreciates our business, and all should feel
free to call Slim on his cell phone (702-266-0197).
A motion to approve the October 11, 2018 meeting minutes – Scott
Mergele made a motion to approve as presented and John Fuller seconded.
The motion carried and was approved.
Birthdays for November were read by Denise Karpa.
President's Report: Skip recognized a guest in attendance, Britton
Braswell, who is the son of the member who designed our logo. Skip solicited
a volunteer to take over as the Vetter editor. If a replacement for
Jimmy Cavallo is not found, there will be no Vetter as of January. Three
volunteers are needed to count election ballots at the December meeting.
Skip encouraged everyone to take advantage of the 45th Anniversary shirt
subsidy.

New Business: New Members and Guests were read by Julie Cantonwine.
Britton Braswell, Jon Kromroy, Roberta and Dan Painter, Randy Bright,
and Karen Salk were our guests this evening. Sandra Hart will be receiving
her plaque next month. Nominations were taken for the 2019 officer positions:
Brenda Cavallo nominated Connie Gentry for Treasurer, which was
seconded by Lanny Lowman. Scott Mergele nominated Marsha Borders
for Vice President, which was seconded by Lanny Lowman. Linda Simpson
nominated Skip Kelley for President, which was seconded by Mark
Fetto. Pat Russell nominated Scott White for Director, which
was seconded by Ron Petersen. Scott Mergele nominated Mike Borders
for Director, which was seconded by Pat Russell. Lanny Lowman nominated
Denise Karpa for Secretary, which was seconded by Linda Simpson.
A motion was made by Nita Russell to close the nominations, which was
seconded by Linda Simpson. The motion passed. Skip read into the record
the two proposed By-Law changes, which were approved by the board on
November 5th to be published in the Vetter and voted on at the December
meeting. The proposed changes include Article 2, Sections 1.(b) and
2.(c) relative to spouse/companion members, along with Article 5, Section
2 relative to officers.
Committee Reports:
Sunshine – Skip noted that Scarla Burkett can no longer serve
as the Sunshine chairperson. The Corvette Cupid is alive and well in
our club because Ken Ackeret and Kathy Clapp got engaged, and Gino Montoya
and Scarlett Stuart got married…congratulations to the happy couples!
Linda Simpson went on a five-week overseas trip with her Mom. Linda
will be having knee replacement surgery on each knee and will be out
of commission for a while. Ron and Kay Petersen celebrated their 63rd
wedding anniversary this month, and Lanny and Janet Lowman celebrated
their wedding anniversary in October. 45th Anniversary – Kathy Clapp
noted that the shirts and jackets are here. The $50 shirt subsidy is
still valid, but your order needs to be placed no later than the December
meeting. Payment for the 45th Anniversary party must be made tonight.
The cost is $20 for members, which will be reimbursed at the party.
The cost to non-members is $40, and it will not be reimbursed. Racer’s
Edge – Lanny Lowman has a trophy for Marvin Maize, who won the last
autocross. December 9th will be the last autocross event, and there
will be nine runs. The winner for the series will be decided in December.
Upcoming Events: Gino Montoya noted that if you forgot to bring
a donation for the Diaper Drive, a $10 donation will be accepted,
and you will receive a community service point. Dave Smith presented
an event to be held on Saturday, November 10th at 6:30 a.m. at the London
Bridge in Lake Havasu, Arizona. This is the last time the bridge
will be shut down for a photo shoot, and the Colorado River Corvette
Club is arranging for the all Corvette photo. Space is limited to 75
Corvettes outside of their club. Brenda Cavallo presented the 45th
Anniversary Social Dinner to be held on November 10th at the Olive
Garden in Centennial Hills from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm. You will be able
to order off of the menu. Skip noted that the club participates in the
Car Show at Eastern on the third Saturday of each month. Plan
to arrive by 7:00 a.m. to park with our group. Pat Russell presented
the 3 in 1 Event (Progressive Dinner, Poker Rallye, and Community
Service for Street Teens) on November 17th. It will be considered a
competition event for a 45th Anniversary rocker. The event will begin
at our meeting location, and the cost is $10 for dinner. You are encouraged
to bring donations for Street Teens, which will earn you a community
service point. Gary Moore presented high performance driver education
at Spring Mt. Motorsports in Pahrump on November 17-18. It is sponsored
by the Porsche Club, and the gates will open at 7:00 a.m. Ron Petersen
noted that the Findlay Thanksgiving Car Show will be held on
Saturday, November 24th. Details are in a flyer on the web site, and
we are encouraged to support our sponsor. Brenda C. presented the
annual bell ringing on Saturday, December 1st for the Salvation
Army. It will be held at the Smith’s in Aliante, and we want to surpass
last year’s collection of $1,600. Skip presented a Toy Drive
to be held on Saturday, December 8th. We will meet at 2375 South Jones
and caravan to Sahara and Jones to meet up with the 98.5 KLUC toy drive.
Afterward, we will have lunch at Vamp’d. This is a community service
event. Ken Rees presented the Suitcase Drive for Carl Hastings.
Carl will collect suitcases, backpacks and tote bags for Child Haven
at the December meeting. This is also a community service event. Ron
P. asked how many members would be interested in Dinner and Dickens
at Lawry’s. If there is enough interest, Rich McSimov will chair the
event. Marsha Borders noted that the Awards Banquet will be held
on January 19th at Sunset Gardens. The colors will be gold and black.
Miscellaneous Announcements: Tommy DeGennaro thanked everyone
who came to his house for the Great Christmas Light Fight. He will know
next year if he was a winner. Pat R. noted that you do not need to participate
in the progressive dinner to donate to Street Teens.
Clean Car Award: This month was won by Bill Bradley. Badge Drawing
– Carl Hastings’ name was drawn, but he was not in attendance. 50/50
- $150 was won by Rich Masluk. Raffles were held.
Motion to adjourn: Ken Rees made a motion to adjourn which was
seconded by Mark Fetto. The motion carried and was approved. The meeting
adjourned at 9:10 p.m.
