The meeting was called to order by President Skip Kelley
at 7:30 p.m. at the Sun City MacDonald Ranch. There were 73 members
and 4 guests present. Skip welcomed all in attendance.
Findlay Chevrolet: Slim Stephens noted how much he appreciates
Paul Patane, who works late to assure cars get done. Findlay appreciates
our business.
A motion to approve the September 13, 2018 meeting minutes -
Carl Corbett made a motion to approve as presented and Kathy Clapp seconded.
The motion carried and was approved.
Birthdays for October were read by Lin Hoernke.
President's Report: Skip solicited a volunteer to take over as
the Vetter editor. He also asked for volunteers for the Elections/Nominating
Committee. Skip noted the storage unit rent increased $34 per month.
The Team Tower is growing, and Skip needs those who chaired an event
to sign a brick. He would like to see one (Spontaneous Combustion) fun
run per month that does not need board approval.
Old Business: Carl Hastings provided background
for the By-Laws change process. Only the members can approve or disapprove
a change. The By-Laws Committee was introduced. After appropriate discussion
of the By-Law changes before the membership, the following occurred:
Article 13, Section 6 (a) relative to financial audits was adopted by
the membership (motion to approve made by Scott Mergele and seconded
by Curt Russell); Article 2, Sections 6 and 7 relative to certificates
of membership was adopted by the membership (motion to approve made
by Barb Belak and seconded by Curt Russell); Article 4, Section 4 relative
to notice of meetings was adopted by the membership (motion to approve
made by Roy Hoernke and seconded by Holley Holran). The Article 2, Section
8 change relative to Mossybacks was not approved by the membership (a
motion to approve was made by Barb Belak and seconded by Curt Russell).
New Business:National Corvette Museum – Skip noted the caravan
to the NCM will take place next year from August 28-31, and our club
will host an event when the caravan is in town. New Members and Guests
were read by Julie Cantonwine. Richard and Margaret Chute got their
plaques. Ed Lanuza, Suzanne Buchman, and Rick Seiber were our guests
this evening. Guest Sandra Hart is joining this evening. Rob and June
Kerr are visiting from Australia.
Committee Reports: Sunshine – Brenda and Jimmy Cavallo are celebrating
their 16th wedding anniversary this month. Kathy Clapp’s son got married,
and Lin and Roy Hoernke’s fourth great grandbaby is on the way. 45th
Anniversary – Kathy Clapp noted that the photos have come back from
the shoot and will be on the web site in the members only section. There
will also be a video of the shoot. The blankets are in, and the shirts
will be here next month. Drag Racing – Ken Rees noted we are one of
only a few clubs with a racing program. Recent winners were as follows:
Scott Armstrong (1st), Curt Russell (2nd), Connie Gentry (3rd), and
Rick Bolin (4th). Racer’s Edge – Lanny Lowman presented trophies to
Curt Russell and Rick Bolin. There were only three participants in the
Silver State event, and they placed 1st – Lanny L., 2nd Rick B., and
3rd Larry Creighton. Lanny is thinking about dropping the Silver State
events from the Racer’s Edge program because of lack of participation
of club members.
Upcoming Events: Skip noted his President’s Run will be to Palm
Springs. Bonnie Corbett presented a Funkana to be held on October 13th.
It will be a short scenic drive with four games and then lunch afterward.
John Kindell noted he will need a chairperson for the October 20th Car
Show at Eastern to have the waivers signed. Marvin Maize presented an
Autocross on October 21st at Sam Boyd Stadium in partnership with the
SCCA. It is matching time trials and there will be both morning and
afternoon runs. Tommy DeGennaro invited the club to his house on Friday,
November 2nd at 5:15 for a reveal of his house decorated for Christmas.
It is part of a nationally televised show where he is a finalist. The
house has over 40,000 lights and the inside is also totally decorated.
Rex Wilhoite presented the Tonopah Halloween Run to be held on October
27-28. He outlined the itinerary and noted that 64 people are signed
up. He will be sending out emails with the details. Scarlett Stuart
and Gino Montoya presented the Diaper Drive. It is a community service
event, and they are asking that we bring diapers and wipes to the next
meeting for the Nevada Diaper Bank. They need sizes 3, 4, 5 and 6. Brenda
Cavallo presented a 45th Anniversary Social Dinner to be held on November
10th at the Olive Garden in Centennial Hills from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm.
There will be riddles and other games. Gary Moore presented high performance
driver education at Spring Mt. Motorsports in Pahrump on November 17-18.
It is sponsored by the Porsche Club, which is why it is a bargain at
$400 for two days or $235 for one day. There will be two runs in the
morning and two in the afternoon, and there will be four run groups:
student, novice, intermediate and advanced. If you have a certificate
from Spring Mt. from prior classes, you may sign up for the advanced
class. Bonnie C. presented the 3 in 1 Event (Progressive Dinner, Poker
Rallye, and Community Service for Street Teens) on November 17th. It
will be considered a competition event for a 45th Anniversary rocker.

site.
Miscellaneous Announcements: The storekeepers will not be here
for the next two months. Benita Klaizner noted there will be two Swedish
people coming to the Funkana with rented Corvettes. Victor Rodriguez
relayed that SEMA is coming and to see him if you are interested in
passes. Scott Mergele has a car for sale. Carl C. reminded everyone
of the suitcase drive for Child Haven.
Clean Car Award: This month was won by Benita Klaizner. Badge
Drawing – Jay Veneaux won $45. 50/50 - $164 was won by Ken
DePiero. Raffles were held.
Marsha Borders asked for a motion to adjourn: Kathy Clapp made
a motion to adjourn which was seconded by Roy Hoernke. The motion carried
and was approved. The meeting adjourned at 9:25 p.m.
