General Membership Meeting - September 13, 2018 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Skip Kelley at 7:30 p.m. at the Sun City MacDonald Ranch. There were 62 members and one guest present. Skip welcomed all in attendance.

Findlay Chevrolet: Slim Stephens noted that the passing of his Mom is still difficult, and he thanked Paul Patane, who picked up his work while he took care of arrangements. Slim put some brochures on the tables about Adams products and thanked the club for supporting Findlay.

Mt. Charleston Fire Chief: Dave Martin thanked the club for our donation of $370. They have a combination of two paid employees, and the rest are volunteers. Clark County does not cover the cost of jackets ($230) or boots ($250-$500), so the money will be put to good use. Thankfully it has been a quiet fire season.

A motion to approve the August 9, 2018 meeting minutes - Jerry Lawrence made a motion to approve as presented and Rich McSimov seconded. The motion carried and was approved.

Birthdays for September were read by Skip.

President's Report: Skip reminded everyone to pay their membership dues. He also noted that Findlay wants Corvettes for the September 29th Las Vegas Lights soccer game.

Treasurer's Report: Connie Gentry relayed that the club is in an expected deficit position at this point in the fiscal year.

Old Business: None.

New Business: New Members and Guests were read by Julie Cantonwine. Ed Lanuza was our guest this evening. Julie introduced new members Richard and Margaret Chute. Mel and Barry Jacobson, as well as Robert Humphrey, got their plaques this evening. Julie noted that she wants to do a clothing drive for Shade Tree at the next club meeting. They need all types of women's clothes, shoes, and accessories. Carl Hastings presented four By-Laws change submissions and explained the process including: evaluation by the By-Laws Committee; presentation to the membership; publication in the Vetter; and a vote at the next general membership meeting. The submissions involve the financial audits, certificates of membership, and the definition of a Mossyback.

Committee Reports: 45th Anniversary - Kathy Clapp noted that she has pins for those who have not received one, including new members. She also reviewed the details for the photo shoot on Sunday, September 23rd at the overflow parking lot at IKEA. The cars will be in the shape of "45", and five volunteers are needed on Saturday to mark the lot. On Sunday, the volunteers are needed at 7:30 a.m. and the cars should arrive at 8:30 a.m. Sunshine - Rex Wilhoite lost his hearing in one ear. Jim Leatham had hip surgery and is doing well. Skip relayed that he has a new puppy, an Australian Shepherd named Mate. Pat and Nita Russell are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this month, Ken and Tomoko DePiero will be married 37 years, and Richard and Margaret Chute will be celebrating their 46th anniversary.

Upcoming Events: The 90-mile 31st running of the Silver State Classic Challenge will be held on September 13-16. Ray Belak noted they have about 30 volunteers working the event, and it is held twice per year. Pat Russell noted the Bracket Drag Racing will be at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on September 29th. It is a Racer's Edge event, and anyone can compete because it is bracket drag racing. Pat noted there will be an Autocross on October 21st at Sam Boyd Stadium in partnership with the SCCA. Skip relayed that there will be no more Saturday morning Cars and Coffee at Speed Vegas. The event has been moved to Friday nights, and Skip is negotiating for what they will give our club to come to the event. The next one will be held on October 5th. Curt Russell, along with co-chairs Robert and Jan Humphrey, are dong a Fall Colors Day Run to Mt. Charleston on September 30th. The meeting spot will be in Summerlin, and everyone is asked to bring a picnic lunch. We will be meeting up with Skip's hiking group. Scarlett Stuart noted that she needs two more convertibles for the Canyon Springs Homecoming on October 4th. Slim volunteered to bring his car. There is another homecoming at the Las Vegas High School on October 12th, and they have asked for four convertibles. Denise Karpa presented the Desert Thunder Car Show on October 5-6. It is a community service event put on by a non-profit organization of the San Bernardino County Sherriff's Department, in conjunction with the Nevada Highway Patrol, benefitting southern Nevada children's charities. It will be held at Buffalo Bill's in Primm, and the organization's web site is posted on our web site. Bonnie Corbett presented the Funkana to be held on October 13th. We will meet at the Rusty Putter, and there will be a short drive with four stops involving games. Scarlett S. presented the Tonopah Halloween Run to be held on October 27-28. It will be a road trip to Rhyolite, Beatty, Goldfield and then to the Mizpah Hotel in Tonopah where there are special room rates. About 60 members have signed up. Beatty is having Beatty Days, but everyone is asked to be in Tonopah by 7:00 for a buffet dinner. Gary Moore presented high performance driver education at Spring Mt. Motorsports in Pahrump on November 17-18. It is sponsored by the Porsche Club, which is why it is a bargain at $400 for two days or $235 for one day. There will be two runs in the morning and two in the afternoon, and there will be four run groups: student, novice, intermediate and advanced. Tommy DeGennaro noted that although he cannot say the name of the show, his home is being featured on television for his extreme Christmas decorations. He needs all of us to show up for the reveal on November 2nd. The Awards Dinner will be on January 19th.

Miscellaneous Announcements: Ken Ackeret thanked everyone for the well wishes after his back surgery. He noted that his Corvette rolled over 200,000 miles! Jerry Lawrence's band is playing at the Pioneer Saloon in Goodsprings on Saturday from 5:00 to 10:00. Carl Hastings will be doing the suitcase drive again this year. Brenda Cavallo wants everyone to save the date for a social dinner on November 10th. She also relayed that her son, who is a Salvation Army administrator, has had to deal with a fire at their facility. There are 85 men who are displaced and need clothing and toiletries. Skip's band will be playing in downtown on September 30th. Kathy Clapp noted the 45th Anniversary blankets need to be ordered now.

Clean Car Award: This month was won by Tommy DeGennaro. Badge Drawing - Jerry McCorkle's name was drawn, but he was not present. Next month it will be $45. 50/50 - $132 was won by Rich Masluk. Raffles were held.

Skip Kelley asked for a motion to adjourn: Jerry Lawrence made a motion to adjourn which was seconded by Tommy DeGennaro. The motion carried and was approved. The meeting adjourned at 9:14 p.m.
