General Membership Meeting - July 12, 2018 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Skip Kelley at 7:30 pm at the Sun City MacDonald Ranch. There were 63 members and 7 guests present. Skip welcomed all in attendance.

Findlay Chevrolet: Slim Stephens noted he was looking forward to hosting the Garage Gang next month at the dealership, and thanked everyone who attended the 65th Anniversary of the Corvette car show.

A motion to approve the June 14, 2018 meeting minutes - Pat Russell made a motion to approve as presented and Julie Cantonwine seconded. The motion carried and was approved.

Birthdays for July were read by Lin Hoernke.

President's Report: Skip relayed to the membership that Holley Holran was verbally assaulted by a non-member at the 65th Anniversary Car Show, and she has decided to resign as Vice President. Nominations were taken for candidates to fill the vacancy. Lanny Lowman nominated Curt Russell, which was seconded by Pat Russell. Roy Hoernke nominated Marsha Borders for the position, which was seconded by Terry Rees. The candidates made speeches why they are willing and able to fill the vacancy. Paper ballots were passed out to the members, and Tommy DeGennaro, Bill Bradley, and Frank Alba acted as the vote counters. Skip confirmed that we have a new signed contract for our meeting venue with McDonald Ranch. Skip read a proposed Standing Rule Change related to social media. Questions were asked and answered about the duties of the Facebook administrators. Pat Russell made a motion to approve the standing rule change, which was seconded by Charlie Ferguson. The motion carried and was approved.

Treasurer's Report: Connie Gentry noted that the balance sheet is temporarily in the red due to the room rent. She asked for a show of hands to see if the members are interested in pursuing an electronic payment option for dues and store items. The majority of the members want to pursue it.

Old Business: Skip announced the appointment of the By-laws Committee members which are: Carl Hastings (chairperson), Roy Hoernke, Larry Duis, Brenda Cavallo, and Slim Stephens.

New Business: New Members and Guests were read by Julie Cantonwine. Guests this evening are: Paul Francis and Peg Christian. Joining this evening are: Bridget Edwards, Greg Jolley, John Jordon, Robert Humphrey and Jan Humphrey. Scott Armstrong received his new member package. Since Julie will be stepping down at the end of the year as the membership chairperson, Clayton Bromberg had stepped forward to train over the next few months to assure a smooth transition.

Committee Reports: 45th Anniversary - Kathy Clapp explained the merchandise available on the order form, and showed the blanket that can be ordered. Sunshine - Scarla Burkett relayed that Tommy DeGennaro's wife, Rosette, needs spinal fusion surgery. Ken Ackeret also will be having back surgery in the near future. Linda Simpson has an auto immune disorder which is getting progressively worse, and she will be having both knees replaced later this year. Carl and Judy Hastings celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary and Jim and Connie Gentry celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary. Racer's Edge - Lanny Lowman had trophies for Marvin Maize, Jerry Cline, and Curt Russell. The Storekeepers, John and Jan Kindell, showed the new t-shirt which is for sale.

Upcoming Events: Ron Petersen thanked everyone who put on events in June. Curt Russell talked about the National Corvette Restorers Society event, which will be in town from July 15-19. It will be held at the Southpoint. Denise Karpa presented going as a club to Spring Mt. Ranch State Park to see the play "She Loves Me" on July 14th. The tickets are $15 and can be ordered online. Car Show at Eastern - John Kindell noted the next one is on July 21st. You should arrive at 7:00 am in order to be able to park together. Garage Gang will be held at Findlay on July 28th where they will show us around the garage, and maybe Slim's car will be part of it! The next Cars and Coffee will be held on August 4th at Speed Vegas. Skip talked about the ride-along that Speed Vegas gives us to raffle. The venue has been sold, but the new owners are looking to expand. There is a possibility that we will be able to set up a future auto cross to be held at the track. Larry Duis is hosting a Garage Gang at his house on August 11th. It is a prospective recruitment event, and let Larry know if you have a project for the event. Jerry Cline invited the club to his Comedy Improve Show on August 18th at 7:00 pm at Sunset and Decatur. The cost is only $7, and we will go to the Sierra Gold at Jones and Rainbow afterward for food/drinks. Jerry has been a part of the group for nine years. Connie G. presented the annual Mt. Charleston Luncheon to be held on August 25th. It will be a community service event to benefit the Mt. Charleston Fire Department and is the 10th anniversary of our club doing the run. We will meet at the Santa Fe parking lot at 10:00 and leave at 10:15. The cost of lunch is $20, and they ask that everyone pay in cash. A $5 donation to the Fire Department will get you a community service point.

Election Results:
Skip announced that Marsha Borders has been elected as the new Vice President.

Miscellaneous Announcements: Deb Leatham made comments about Holley's service to the club. Pat Russell needs to know if members are not receiving emails from the club. Julie Cantonwine read a letter of thanks from the Animal Foundation for our donations. Holley thanked everyone for letting her be of service to the club.

Clean Car Award: This month was won by Scott White. Badge Drawing - Sally McVane's name was drawn, but she was not present. Next month it will be $40. 50/50 - $174 was won by Jan Humphrey. Raffles were held.

Skip Kelley asked for a motion to adjourn: Ken Rees made a motion to adjourn which was seconded by Lanny Lowman. The motion carried and was approved. The meeting adjourned at 9:10 pm.
