General Membership Meeting - April 12, 2018 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Skip Kelley at 7:30 pm at the Sun City MacDonald Ranch. There were 43 members and 3 guests present. Skip welcomed all in attendance.

Findlay Chevrolet: Slim Stephens relayed that his parents were among the original club members who signed up at Wonder World. His Mom is not doing well, and he thanked everyone for their prayers. Slim also thanked us for the referrals and noted that Findlay will match other quotes for tires.

A motion to approve the March 8, 2018 meeting minutes - Jerry Lawrence made a motion to approve as presented and Curt Russell seconded. The motion carried and was approved.

Birthdays for April were read by Ingrid O'Brien.

President's Report:
Skip noted that his car overheated at the St. Patrick's Day Parade, which qualified for an "ah shit" salute. Toy Table - Skip pointed out some things on the table-including a vintage Avon cologne decanter of a '63 Vette-and encouraged everyone to bring something for the next meeting. Team Tower - The team tower is growing quite tall, and Skip hopes he soon will need to put it on the floor. National Corvette Museum Banner - The final design has been approved, and the banner should be displayed at the museum by June. Business Cards - We have new club business cards, so members just need to ask for some to hand out. E-mail - The email problem has been fixed. Website - The current site is up to date, and the new site is under construction. Facebook - Skip noted that Facebook is good for posting last-minute events. Garage Gang - You need to host a Garage Gang to get one of the cool t-shirts.

Treasurer's Report: Connie Gentry had nothing to report in addition to the recent audit.

Old Business: The annual audit of the financial records was held on April 11, 2018 and was conducted by Lennard Grodzinsky, Dawn Gregorio, and Kathy Clapp. Lennard summarized the audit noting that they spent four hours going through the records and grilled Connie G. on different events. She had all of the backup documents to support the financials. Lennard noted that our club cannot deduct charitable donations, so there will be a sub-category in the profit and loss statement to include charitable donations as a promotional/marketing expense, which will make the donations deductible. Members will be encouraged to make charitable donations directly versus running them through the club. The audit included looking at reducing the cash position, and the 2018 budget-which includes 45th
Anniversary expenses-should reduce the cash reserves.

New Business: New Members and Guests were read by Julie Cantonwine. Julie thanked all of the members who both checked their name on the list and also signed the waiver form as they often do not match. Guests this evening are: Carl Solomon, and Richard and Margaret Chute. All three will be joining. 45th Anniversary - Kathy Clapp discussed the patches and rockers. She noted that most of the pins have been handed out. It was also decided by the committee/E-Board that all of the events for this year will be designated with a rocker classification.

Committee Reports: Sunshine - Chris Burkett presented the sunshine report in Scarla's absence. Wedding anniversaries were recognized. Lin Hoernke's grandson is graduating from college and will be going to medical school. A t-shirt was signed by members at the 45 for 45 event for Jackie Fleenor, who is having health issues. Memories of Steve Tucker were shared by several members. Lennard Grodzinsky and Rich McSimov also shared memories and gave details about the caravan plans for Steve's Memorial Service on April 16th. They want to create a traffic jam of Corvettes.

Upcoming Events: Ron Petersen introduced the individuals who are putting on upcoming events. Julie Cantonwine presented the Gambler's Classic weekend in Laughlin to be held on April 19 - 22. It is the 21st annual event and includes a drive to Lake Havasu. It is open to 250 cars, and she is planning to leave on Thursday between 12:30 and 12:45 pm from the Fiesta Henderson. The cost is $130 per person, and there are special room rates at the Riverside. Julie also presented the Christmas in June Pet Supply Drive which will take place at the June 14th meeting. It is a community service event, and Julie asked that everyone check the Animal Foundation's web site for their wish list of supplies needed. Because so many animals are lost during the July 4th fireworks, we want to assure that the shelter is well stocked to care for the influx of animals during this time. Car Show at Eastern - Skip noted that the next two dates are April 21st and May 19th. It starts at 7:30 am, and is a good place to meet prospective members. Although it happens every Saturday, we will participate as a club two Saturdays after Cars and Coffee. The next Cars and Coffee will be held on May 5th, which happens to be Cinco de Mayo. After Cars and Coffee wraps up at about 10:30 am, we will caravan to Ricardo's at Decatur and Flamingo for a buffet lunch. The cost is $20 per person (cash only), and drinks will need to be paid for as they are ordered. Thanks to Rex Wilhoite for making the arrangements at Ricardo's. Denise Karpa presented the Wine Tasting event to be held on April 28th. We will meet at the Skyline Casino at 12:45 and travel about a mile to Vegas Valley Winery. We will taste some wine, enjoy some snacks and learn about winemaking. Lin Hoernke noted that for the Duck Creek, Utah Car Show, she will bring her camper if there are at least five cars participating. The show will be held on June 16th. It is limited to 75 cars and the entry fee is $25 (winners receive cash prizes). After the show, Carol and Frank Gagliardi will have dinner at their cabin. You may sign up for the show on the Duck Creek website. Skip talked about the Bracket Drag Racing to be held on April 22nd and June 3rd. He encouraged everyone to try it, and you do not need to be the fastest car to win. Ron Petersen noted that we need to fill up the summer months with events.

Miscellaneous Announcements: Skip invited everyone to Valley of Fire on Saturday, April 14th at 5:00 pm. There will be a pot luck dinner at his camp site (group site #3), music and lots of fun. Holley Holran noted that during the 45 for 45 event, the production crew was dictating the speed of her car (she was the lead car), so it was not her decision to slow down at times.

Clean Car Award: Lin Hoernke reported that this month was won by Jerry Lawrence (a first timer). Badge Drawing - Tommy DeGennaro was wearing his badge and won $55.00. 50/50 - $120 was won by Mo Martin. Raffles were held.

Skip Kelley asked for a motion to adjourn:
Tommy DeGennaro made a motion to adjourn which was seconded by Mark Fetto. The motion carried and was approved. The meeting adjourned at 8:45 pm.

Respectfully submitted by: Denise Karpa, Secretary
