The meeting was called to order by President Skip Kelley
at 7:30 pm at the Sun City MacDonald Ranch. There were 64 members and
2 guests present. Skip welcomed all in attendance. Findlay Chevrolet: Slim Stephens thanked us for supporting Findlay Chevrolet. He noted that there are 32 Findlay dealerships, and all will support our club by offering members available discounts. A motion to approve the February 8, 2018 meeting minutes – Kathy Clapp made a motion to approve as presented and Marsha Borders seconded. The motion carried and was approved. Birthdays for March were read by Lin Hoernke. President's Report and Old Business: Toy Table – Skip thanked those who brought things for the members to enjoy and encouraged everyone to bring something for the next meeting. Team Tower – The team tower is growing, and you can add your name to a brick by organizing an event. E-mail/ Facebook – Skip noted that some people are receiving e-mails long after they were sent. He encouraged everyone to join the club’s Facebook page as communicating news is more reliable and instantaneous. National Corvette Museum Banner – The banner design has been approved, and the bill has been paid. Survey – Skip summarized the results including that the majority is happy with our meeting venue, local/day runs are preferred, and everyone likes parties, so more parties need to be planned. Overall, the feedback was positive. Garage Gang was successful, and the attendees got a Corvette back on the road! Drive-In Movie – Skip is planning a night at the drive-in with our Corvettes. Banner – Skip would like to have our club’s banner displayed at all of the events. Steve Tucker – There will be a celebration of life service for Steve on April 16th. Details will be communicated to the members. Treasurer's Report: Connie Gentry reported that the new budget is posted on the web site. The club’s tax return has been prepared, and the amount owed is zero! New Business: Audit – Skip noted that a committee needs to be formed to audit the club’s financial records. Storekeepers – Skip relayed that John and Jan Kindell have stepped up to be our new storekeepers. New Members and Guests were read by Julie Cantonwine. Guests this evening are: Gerald Williams and Gary Jackson. New member joining tonight is Clayton Bromberg, and Bill and Gay Henderson are re-joining the club. 45th Anniversary – Kathy Clapp (chairperson) and Bonnie Corbett (co-chair) presented the patches, rockers, pins and merchandise which will be part of the 45th Anniversary year. They explained that the rockers will be earned by participating in a related 45th Anniversary event. There will be at least two events held in each category. Racers’ Edge will not count toward a competition event. A rallye and a funkana will be planned to earn a competition rocker. The merchandise and pins will be available soon. Committee Reports: Sunshine – Chris Burkett presented the sunshine report in Scarla’s absence. He noted that Holley Holran is doing well since her surgery, and he read a thank you note from Rosette DeGennaro. Drag Racing – Ken Rees noted that there will be individual winners for drag racing, autocross, and open road racing. Although we won’t be racing four cars on the new four-wide track at the drag strip, it should be completed in time for the March and April events. When the times are set for the drag races, they will be communicated to the Racers Edge participants. If the track is not ready for the March 18th event, an autocross will be held. All racers need to have a 2010 or newer helmet. Racers Edge – Lanny Lowman noted the March 11th autocross will be held at Sam Boyd Stadium at 7:00 am with a drivers’ meeting at 8:30 am. You may pre-register at the LVRSCCA web site, and you must work a session. Mark Fetto was a first time autocross winner with a .012. Upcoming Events: Ron Petersen introduced the individuals who are putting on upcoming events. Brenda Cavallo and Holley Holran are co-chairs for the Dinner Social at Miller’s Ale House on March 10th at 6:30 pm in the back bar area. It is a 45th Anniversary event and members will earn their first rocker for the anniversary patch. There will be games, trivia, and lots of surprises. Benita Klaizner presented the St. Patrick's Day Parade, which will be held on March 17th on Water Street in Henderson. Staging will be at the LDS Church at 8:30 am, and the cost is $5.00 per person. It is a community service event benefitting St. Baldrick’s Foundation in memory of Nancy and Dennis Ledwon’s granddaughter, and lunch will be afterward at Metro Pizza on Horizon Ridge and Stephanie. Kathy Clapp presented her President's Run on March 23rd to 25th in Solvang, CA. Friday night will be a welcome reception and Saturday will be the Mendenhall Museum and dinner at AJ Saloon & Dining Hall. It does not matter which hotel you stay at, and the cost will be $50 per person. Kathy asked that everyone wear their club shirt for the Saturday events. John Kindell reported that there were 8 cars at the first Car Show at Eastern event, and the next one is scheduled for March 17th. Skip presented the 45 for 45 event on March 31st. We will meet at Findlay at 11:30 and leave at noon for Nelson. Vegas Cakes will make a cake for our 45th Anniversary and film the event. Skip is trying to get the founding members to attend. We should wear our club shirts and bring a lunch. We will receive our 45th Anniversary pins at the event. Denise Karpa talked about Cars and Coffee, and the next one will be held on April 7th. Bill Thomas presented the Wine Tasting event to be held on April 28th. We will meet at the Skyline Casino at 12:45 and travel about a mile to Vegas Valley Winery. We will taste some wine, enjoy some snacks and learn about winemaking. Barb Belak noted that there is a full contingent of volunteers for the NV Open Road Challenge on May 17-20. Carol and Frank Gagliardi presented the Duck Creek, Utah Car Show to be held on June 16th. It is limited to 75 cars and the entry fee is $25 (winners receive cash prizes). After the show, they will have dinner at their cabin. You can stay the night before or after the show at one of the local hotels or rent a cabin. Ron Petersen noted there will be no Findlay car show on Father’s Day—only on Thanksgiving. See Rex Wilhoite if you are interested in the Corvette Pirate’s Cruise, and the Prescott Car Show needs a chairperson. Miscellaneous Announcements: Skip noted a 1954 Corvette for sale. Denise Karpa asked for volunteers to help with the Desert Thunder event. Lanny noted a 2009 silver ZR1 for sale; 24,000 miles, $65,000 OBO. Gino Montoya asked everyone to write legibly to get community service points credit. Scarlett Stuart and Rex Wilhoite are planning a Grand Canyon trip in September. Clean Car Award: Roy Hoernke reported that this month was won by Bill Thomas. Badge Drawing – Carole McSimov’s name was drawn, but she was not in attendance, so next month’s drawing will be $55.00. 50/50 was won by Roy Hoernke. Raffles were held.
