The meeting was called to order by President Skip Kelley
at 7:30 pm at the Sun City MacDonald Ranch. There were 51 members and
7 guests present. Skip welcomed all in attendance.
Findlay Chevrolet: Slim Stephens thanked us for all our referrals
to Findlay Chevrolet. He apologized for holding up those who were behind
him at the Laps for Charity event. Next year, Slim will be sure to go
to the back of the line!
A motion to approve the January 11, 2018 meeting minutes – Scarlett
Stuart made a motion to approve as presented and Carl Corbett seconded.
The motion carried and was approved.
Birthdays for February were read by Lin Hoernke.
President's Report: Skip Kelley talked about the passing of past
president and Silver State pioneer, Dale Foust. He asked the members
to share memories of Dale, which resulted in wonderful stories of Dale
and Silver State, but also about his real life work as an engineer at
the Nevada Test Site. Dale will be missed by all, and details of his
memorial service on February 16th will be communicated to the members.
Email - Skip noted that there is a glitch in the email system that is
being worked out. So, if you did not get recent email communication
from the club, the problem is being fixed. Team Tower - The tower is
growing, and all you need to do to add your name to the tower is to
chair or co-chair an event. Membership Outreach - One of Skip's goals
is to increase membership, so events are being planned to expose the
club to other Corvette owners. Skip has new business cards for everyone
to hand out, and the club's banner will be displayed at events. Toy
Table - Skip thanked those who brought things for the members to enjoy.
Proclamation - Skip brought the proclamation from the County Commissioners
for everyone to read, and it is also posted on the web site.
Treasurer's Report: Connie Gentry reported that the 2017 financial
statement is complete, and there was negative net income of $489. For
tax purposes, this is a desirable result.
Old Business: Member Survey - Skip noted that several members
have completed the survey, but he would like more participation. Awards
- Kathy Clapp presented awards to those who could not attend the banquet,
including an award to Mike and Marsha Borders who opened their home
to a couple who blew a tire on their way to Silver State. Kathy also
presented year and community service pins.
New Business: New Members and Guests were read by Julie Cantonwine.
Guests this evening are: Phillip and Kathy Stommer, Jay Berkley, Paul
and Peggy Francis, and Jesus Caballaro. New member joining tonight is
Jim Buczek. A motion to approve the 2018 budget was made by Scott Mergele
and seconded by Gino Montoya. The motion carried and was approved. March
1st is the deadline for a banner at the National Corvette Museum (NCM)
in 2019. A motion to approve a banner at the NCM for 2019 was made by
Scott Mergele and seconded by Lin Hoernke. The motion carried and was
approved.
Committee Reports: Scarla Burkett noted that Holley Holran had
surgery and is doing well. Community Service: Gino Montoya and Scarlett
Stuart encouraged members to plan community service events. Brenda Cavallo
read a thank you letter from the Salvation Army for the club's donation
of $365, and Connie Gentry noted that over $32,000 was raised for Laps
for Charity with over 600 cars participating. Racers Edge: Lanny
Lowman noted that for the matching time trials, first place went to
Jan Wallace with Marvin Maize and Pat Russell coming in second and third
places.
Upcoming Events: Ron Peterson said he will help anyone who wants
to put on an event. Skip noted that Pat Nardi will host Garage Gang
on February 10th at 9:00 a.m. John Kindell and Jim Buczek will be the
co-chairs of the Car Show at Eastern, which will be held on the third
Saturday of each month and begin on February 17th from 7:00 to 9:30
am. Skip will chair the Pahrump Balloon Festival events on Friday, February
23rd for the balloon glow (meet at 4:15 pm at the McDonalds on Blue
Diamond and Durango) and for the balloon fly away on Saturday, February
24th (meet at the same location at 5:30 am). Connie Gentry presented
the 75th Birthday Party luncheon for Jim Weeks on February 24th at the
Pioneer Saloon. We will meet at 10:30 am at the M Casino's west parking
lot and caravan to the restaurant. Denise Karpa talked about Cars &
Coffee on March 3rd. Denise and Julie are the co-chairs for the month.
Brenda Cavallo presented the Dinner Social at Miller's Ale House on
March 10th at 6:30 pm. It is a 45th Anniversary event and members will
earn their first rocker for the anniversary patch. There will be games
and trivia. The St. Patrick's Day Parade will be held on March 17th
on Water Street in Henderson. Staging will be at the LDS Church at 8:30
am, and the cost is $5.00 per person. It is a community service event.
Kathy Clapp presented her President's Run on March 23rd to 25th in Solvang,
CA. Friday night will be a welcome reception and Saturday will be the
Mendenhall Museum and dinner at AJ Saloon & Dining Hall. It does
not matter which hotel you stay at, and the cost will be $50 per person.
Everyone will meet at the M Casino parking lot on Saturday at 8:00 am.
Skip presented the 45 for 45 event on March 31st. We will meet at Nellis
AFB at 9:00 am and drive 45 miles for a picnic lunch.
Miscellaneous Announcements: Kathy Clapp explained the 45th Anniversary
patch and rockers, which will be earned. Sally McVane said that although
the Super Bowl Party was cancelled, she will take donations for Street
Teens in the near future. Pat Russell noted that members should refresh
their browser when viewing the web site to assure they are seeing the
most recent information. Also, the survey is contained in the members'
only section.
Clean Car Award: Roy Hoernke reported that this month was won
by Jim Buczek. Badge Drawing: Jim Gregorio's name was drawn, but he
left early, so next month's drawing will be $55.00. 50/50: $125.00 was
won by Jack Gordan. Raffles: were held.
Skip Kelley asked for a motion to adjourn: Jan Wallace made a motion
to adjourn which was seconded by Bob Florian. The motion carried and
was approved. The meeting adjourned at 8:50 pm.
