General Membership Meeting - January 11, 2108 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Skip Kelley at 7:30 pm at the Sun City MacDonald Ranch. There were 53 members and 10 guests present. Skip welcomed all in attendance.

Findlay Chevrolet: Slim Stephens thanked us for all our referrals to Findlay Chevrolet. He stated that Findlay has changed the cost of smog checks to $19.95, and the cost of a 4-wheel alignment for the club is $129.95 (regularly $169.95). Also, for this month fluid exchanges and auto detailing is half price for the club.

A motion to approve the December 14, 2017 meeting minutes – Carl Corbett made a motion to approve as presented and Lanny Lowman seconded. The motion carried and was approved.

Birthdays for January were read by Holley Holran.

President's Report: Skip Kelley explained the “team tower” being created for the club. It is comprised of Lego bricks in the shape of a “V” for Vegas Vettes. All of the officers and committee chairpersons have signed a brick. When a member chairs or cochairs an event, they will also sign a brick. The object is by the end of the year, a tall tower will be built showing all of the individuals who had a part in the club’s events and activities. Skip also noted that we have new 45th Anniversary banners to display at all events, and new club business cards have been ordered. He encouraged the members to invite others to our events to increase membership. Toy Table – Skip encouraged members to bring Corvette memorabilia to the general meetings for others to enjoy. Clark Co. Board of Commissioners – Skip noted that Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani will make a proclamation at their meeting on February 6th at 9:00 am to recognize LVCA’s 45th Anniversary and what we do for the community. Kathy Clapp will be there for the presentation. Member Survey – Skip noted that a survey will soon go out to the membership, and he encouraged responses.

Treasurer's Report: Connie Gentry reported that the club’s finances are in good shape, and the goal is to have negative net income. After the banquet, she will be able to close out 2017.

Old Business:
Skip Kelley noted that the old web site is up to date, and the new web site is under construction.

New Business: New Members and Guests were read by Julie Cantonwine. Guests this evening are: Neil and Edie Roberts, David Scarda, JoAnn Mangrorelli, Dennis Jenner, James Canitz, James Berkley, Karen Salk, and Clayton Bromberg (who is re -joining). New members joining tonight are: James Constantine, Jan Kindall, Jay Veneaux, and Joseph Mauro. After reading the names and positions, a motion to approve the appointed officers was made by Terry Rees and seconded by Lanny Lowman. The motion carried and was approved.

Committee Reports: Sunshine: Scarla Burkett noted that Skip is having a heart procedure the following day, and his daughter, Riley, recently got married. Ken and Terry Rees are celebrating their 33rd wedding anniversary. Kathy Clapp read a letter from the Animal Foundation thanking us for our donation.

Racers Edge: Lanny Lowman suggested it is best to look at the web site for information on the rules. It costs $40.00 to participate in the program. Ken Rees will co-chair for the drag racing events; Marvin Maize will co-chair for autocross; and Lanny is responsible for the program as well as the open-road events.

Upcoming Events: Ron Peterson said he will help anyone who wants to put on an event. He asked Brenda Cavallo for an update on the Salvation Army Adopt-AKettle event held in December. Brenda thanked everyone who participated and noted that in 2015, we collected $1,012; 2016 it was $1,019 and in December we collected a record $1,298 topped off by the club’s additional $365 check. Rex Wilhoite stated 79 attendees have signed up for the Annual Awards Banquet on January 20th at Sunset Gardens. He will send an email to attendees with the details. Connie Gentry reported that Laps for Charity is on January 28th, and race time is 9:30 am, so meet at the old Shelby location no later than 9:15 am. You can pay online or when you get there ($35 for 3 laps; $25 for 3 additional laps; and $10 for a picture). Lunch to follow at Moe's Race Day Cafe. Speedway Children’s Charities have distributed $311,000 to local charities. Connie Gentry also presented the 75th Birthday Party luncheon for Jim Weeks on February 24th at the Pioneer Saloon. We will meet at 10:30 am at the M Casino’s west parking lot and caravan to the restaurant. Curt Russell talked about Cars & Coffee on February 3rd. He is the co-chair for the month. Ron Peterson presented the St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 17th on Water Street in Henderson. Kathy Clapp presented the Super Bowl Party to be held at the McVane’s house on February 4th at 2:30 pm. It costs $5 for members and $7 for nonmembers and is a CS event to benefit Street Teens. Kathy also presented her President's Run on March 23rd to 25th in Solvang, CA. Friday night will be a welcome reception and Saturday will be the Mendenhall Museum and dinner at AJ Saloon & Dining Hall. It does not matter which hotel you stay at, and the cost will be $50 per person. Barb Belak and Ken Rees presented the Nevada Open Road Challenge (NORC) explaining the history of the event. The May 17th to 20th event will be the first two-way race (60 miles each way), and LVCA has been asked to help plan the event. Barb noted there are 18 to 20 volunteers for the May event, but she needs 6 to 8 more. She encouraged new members to participate. Ron Peterson closed by mentioning the cruise in February that Rex Wilhoite is coordinating.

Miscellaneous Announcements: Skip Kelley solicited interest for a February 10th garage gang. Scott Mergele noted a friend of his RV club is trying to sell a 2015 C-7 Stingray, white with 4,000 miles, for $54,000.

Clean Car Award: Roy Hoernke and Scarlett Stuart reported that this month was won by Tommy DeGennaro.

Badge Drawing: Janet Lowman was not present, so next month’s drawing will be $50.00. 50/50: $189.00 was won by Holley Holran. Raffles: were held.
