General Membership Meeting - October 13, 2016 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Kathy Clapp at 7:31 PM at the McDonald Ranch Clubhouse Banquet Room. She thanked everyone for coming tonight. There were 58 members and 9 guests present.

Findlay Chevrolet: Slim Stephens thanked the membership for their continued support for our sponsor, Findlay Chevrolet. Paul Patane was not here tonight because he's swamped with work.

Motion to approve the September 8, 2016 minutes: Scott Mergele made the motion to approve the minutes as written; Jim Annis seconded. Motion passed.

Birthdays for the month of October were read by Lin Hoernke.

Treasurer's Report: Connie stated that dues are coming in & our budget is evening out. She reminded everyone that they can find up-to-date information about the budget on the website.

President Report: Kathy mentioned that we have a nominating committee. Cindy Fuller, Benita Klaizner & Linda Simpson volunteered. They will be contacting members to see of their interest in helping LVCA next year. Kathy also announced that Mike Frizzell has volunteered to be the new Webmaster. He & Pat Russell are meeting to facilitate the transition.

Introduction of New & Prospective Members:
Julie Cantonwine introduced Ron Guerra as a new member & presented him with his plaque. She then introduced our guests for the evening: Christian Nuss & Hannah Clement (joining), Maria & Edward Miranda (joining), Roger Wagner (joining), Wyatt Hart, Scott White (joining), Richard & Margaret Chute visiting from Canada.

Terry Rees was glad to report several members are on the mend this month. Holley Holran had surgery recently & sent a thank you note for the lovely flowers & fun card from her LVCA family. Steve Tucker was here after an extensive surgery. He & Jan had dinner & left early due to being tired. Nancy Ledwon is still on the mend. Terry told Nancy that we are all on Team Nancy & will continue to keep her in our thoughts & prayers. Anniversary this month is: Terry mentioned what a beautiful & colorful the month October is. Congratulations to Brenda & Jimmy Cavallo for 14 years of marriage and many, many more!

Racers' Edge: Ken Rees substituted for Lanny Lowman. Silver State Classic Challenge Racer's Edge results were: 1st=Ken Rees & 2nd=Lanny Lowman. September 25th Autocross results were: 1st=Skip Kelley, 2nd=Marvin Maize & 3rd=Rick Bolin. Mojave Magnum results were: Saturday 1.5 mile Challenge-1st=Lanny Lowman, 2nd=Pat Russell & 3rd=Ken Rees; Sunday 1.5 mile Challenge-1st=Lanny, 2nd=Ken= & 3rd=Pat; 1 mile Combo-1st=Ken, 2nd=Lanny & 3rd=Pat. The October 16th Autocross was cancelled due to Air Races at the LVMS.

Upcoming Events: Past Events from September were Tuacahn. Denise Karpa introduced Kathy Clapp & Ken Ackeret to present the awards for the Rallye & Scavenger Hunt. 1st place=Lennard & Sharron Grodzinsky, 2nd place=Ken & Terry Rees & 3rd place=Rich & Carole McSimov. Single Driver winner was Julie Cantonwine. Kathy introduced Mike & Claudette Frizzell to present the awards for the Animal Alphabet Game. 1st place=Scarlett Stuart. She only missed 1! 2nd place=a tie, Lennard Grodzinsky & Carole McSimov. They missed 2 each! 3rd place=a 3-way tie, Ken Ackeret, Julie Cantonwine & Pat Russell. They each missed 3! Other Past Events were Silver State Classic Challenge; RE#13 MTT Autocross; Show & Shine Car Show. There were 231 cars at LVMS. LVCA just missed winning the most participation award by 4 cars. $15,000 was raised for the LVMS Children's Charity. Save-the-date for next year's Show & Shine on September 27, 2017! Another Past Event was Cars and Coffee.
New Events: Cindy Fuller presented information about the 5th Annual One Hero at a Time Event to be held on Saturday October 15th at the Joker's Wild Casino in Henderson. This is a community service event to benefit 1 former Service Veteran & their family. The asking donation is at least $20. ALL donations will be given to the Veteran! There will be live music, a beer truck & food available. Members are asked to meet at PT's Pub on Eastern & Pebble at 11:30 am in order to caravan to the Joker's Wild. See the website for details. On October 21st there is a need for Corvette Convertibles to provide Canyon Springs HS Homecoming Support. Roy has 4 convertibles participating. Participants receive a community service point. Monster Mash Car Bash will be October 22nd at the New Horizons Center for Learning from 10 am to 3 pm. This is a community service event to benefit NHCL & Students with learning difficulties. Entry fee is $25 for this unique car show. The children have a great time receiving candy & talking with all the participants! See the Vetter & Website for more details. CA Coastal Cruise will be October 29th to November 5th. Ports of Call are San Francisco, Santa Barbara, and San Diego & Ensenada, Mexico. Check the Vetter & Website or contact Benita Klaizner for more details. Cars & Coffee will be November 5th & December 3rd. It is always the Saturday before our General Membership Meeting. It is at a NEW LOCATION at SPEED VEGAS, 14200 Las Vegas Blvd South (2-miles south of the M Resort). It starts a 7am, but if you want to park with LVCA, be there early! Come out & enjoy great cars & great company! Skip also mentioned that following the December Cars & Coffee, at 10:30am, there will be a Garage Gang at Pat Russell's. All the information is on the Website & in the Vetter. Scott Mergele spoke about the Vettes for Vets Car Show on November 11th from 10am to 2pm at the Hard Rock Cafe, Harmon & Paradise. This will be a community service event to benefit the Shine Foundation that supports local veterans. Entry fee is $10. All money will go to the Shine Foundation. There will be raffles, trophies & discounted food & beverages. Staging of cars will begin at 8:30am. Contact Scott if you are interested. Scott also spoke about the Findlay CAR-NACOPIA Classic Car & Truck Show on November 19th at the Silverton Casino from 10am to 2pm. This is a community service event. Entry fee is $15. All money will benefit the Crohns & Colitis Foundation of America. Members are encouraged to support our sponsor! There will be a Cowboy Brunch & St Jude's Ranch Children's Gift Giving on November 12th starting at 11 am located at Hemenway Valley Park, Boulder City. Bonnie Corbett is chairing this Mossyback Event. It is a Member Appreciation Brunch & community service event. Christmas gifts for the children will be collected & delivered after the brunch. The cost of the brunch will be $15 per person. LVCA Members who attend the Brunch will receive their money back at the event as a token of appreciation. October 31st is the final day to make a reservation. Brunch will be served starting at 11:30am. Following this will be games, photos & FUN! Attire is Western! On December 10th will be the Dyno Day Shootout at the LVMS by Unleased Performance Labs. Cost is $60/car & $5 for lunch, all prepaid. See Ken Rees for details & signup times. The Cookie Exchange will be on December 11th at Jim & Dawn Gregorio's from 11am to 3pm with the exchange at 1pm! Cost will be $7/person. If you wish to exchange cookies, bring 3 dozen. Extra cookies are always welcome for sampling! Chili, snacks, water & soda will be provided. Brenda Cavallo asked members to Save-the-Date for the Adopt-a-Kettle Event on December 17th from 8am to 5pm located at the Smith's, 6855 N Aliante Pkwy. This is a community service event with all the proceeds going to the Salvation Army. See Brenda for signup times & to Ring that Bell! For more details on all events see the Vetter & the Website. Miscellaneous Announcements: Terry Rees announced that Lanny Lowman had picked up Janet from the airport. Janet is happy to be home. She reported that her Mother is doing better, & she thanks everyone for they support during this time. Skip Kelley gave an update on his shop which is awaiting its final inspection & mentioned that he would be judging again this year at Beatty Days on October 29th. He invited anyone interested in driving to Beatty for some good old fashion fun on October 29th. Scott Mergele mentioned that he plans on doing an event again in Prescott, AZ in September 2017. As soon as he receives the date for the Prescott Vette Sette All Corvette Car Show, he will let us know. Ray Belak is a driver for Barrett-Jackson. He has 9 tickets for the Auction for either Friday or Saturday. The ticket is good for 2 people. Tickets were given to interested members. Julie Cantonwine apologized to Robert Florian for not seeing him arrive tonight. She asked him to come forward to receive his plaque & badge of membership. Victor Rodriquez, Jr asked those members who were interested in the upcoming SEMA 16 Event on November 1st-4th to please see him so he can make sure he has every ones information. He also mentioned Nellis AFB Air Show on November 12th & 13th. He invited everyone to come to this free event. Parking is at the LVMS & shuttle buses take you to the Flightline. Ken Rees spoke about his visit to Colorado Springs & his son, Mike. While there, he looked up a Corvette Club, & Ken & Mike participated in a Color Cruise drive through the mountains.

Clean Car Award was won by Tommy DeGennaro with his 1979 Millenium Yellow w/Orange Pearl & Diamond Dust Coupe.

Badge Drawing: Jerry Cline was not present. Next month's drawing will be $30.

50/50: Brenda Cavallo had the winning ticket for $140.

Raffle was conducted with the items from our sponsor, Findlay Chevrolet and from members. Raffle prize winners were Carl H, Rick B, Benita K, Julie C, Denise K, Bill C, Nita R, Victor R, Jr & Bill T.
