General Membership Meeting - August 11, 2016 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Kathy Clapp at 7:30 PM at the McDonald Ranch Clubhouse Banquet Room. She thanked everyone for coming tonight. There were 57 members and 9 guests present.

Findlay Chevrolet: Slim Stephens had to leave before the meeting started. Kathy thanked the membership for their continued support for our sponsor, Findlay Chevrolet.

Motion to approve the July 14, 2016 minutes: Jerry Lawrence made the motion to approve the minutes as written; Jimmy Cavallo seconded. Motion passed.

Birthdays for the month of August were read by Lin Hoernke. Lin asked all members to please stand when their name is called so that new members can put a face to a name. This will also facilitate handing out drink tickets to members who have not received their tickets for a free Birthday drink.

Treasure's Report: Connie is out of town. Kathy reminded everyone that they can find up to date information about the budget on the website.

President Report: We will be extending our contract with the MacDonald Ranch Clubhouse for our meeting place for the years 2017 & 2018. Kathy explained that Bonnie Corbett will be chairing a Lunch in the Park in November. This will be an Appreciation Event for LVCA members. The event will be catered so that all members can enjoy this "Give Back to the Membership" event. Kathy also mentioned that we are more then half way through 2016, & soon we will need to be thinking about electing officers for next year's Eboard. If you are interested in holding an office, please contact Kathy or any member of the Eboard to "throw your hat into the ring."

Terry Rees mentioned the Rich McSimov recently had pacemaker surgery & encouraged members to give Rich a call. Terry hoped that members got to visit with Nancy Ledwon in the Willows Restaurant before the meeting. Nancy is out of her sling from her broken arm & doing better. She & Dennis are enjoying a visit from their daughter, Chrissy & granddaughter, Sky. Nancy will be evaluated in the coming weeks regarding her lung problem. Terry talked with Jan Tucker regarding her progress with physical therapy for her broken arm. Jan is doing well. Both Nancy & Jan would love hearing from club members. Terry read a thank you note from Sharon Mikuta expressing her thanks to LVCA for the donation to the Boy Scouts of America in Art's memory. Terry made a very special announcement about Chiefs in the Air Force. Only 1% of all Enlisted Airmen achieve the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Chief (Ret) Roy Hoernke & Lin Hoernke are the proud parents of a new Chief Master Sergeant. Congratulations! & Thank You for Your Service! Anniversaries this month are: Ken & Judy Kroeger-55 years! Larry & Jenny Leard-55 years!, Linda & Elliott Simpson-27 years!, & Lin & Roy Hoernke-18 years! Congratulations to you all and many, many more!
Drag Racing: Ken Rees, along with son Michael, is participating in the Sandhills Open Road Challenge in Arnold, NE.
Racers' Edge: Lanny Lowman, along with son Berry, is also participating in the SORC in Arnold, NE. If you would like to order a Racers Edge T-shirt, contact Lanny.

Upcoming Events: Kathy mentioned the past events from July that were Cars & Coffee on July 9th & the RE#11 MTT Autocross on July 23rd. New Events: Brenda Cavallo, substituting for Connie Gentry, spoke about the 8th Annual Mt. Charleston Run Away (Cool Down & Lunch) that will be on Saturday August 27th. This is a community service event that will benefit the Mt. Charleston Volunteer Fire Department. A donation of $5 per member will earn you a CS point. We'll meet at 9:45am in the Santa Fe Casino North Parking Lot to depart at 10 am to drive up to Mt Charleston for lunch at 11am. Lunch will be at the Lodge & cost will be $17 per person for meal + tip. It is requested that we pay in cash. Cars and Coffee will be September 3rd & October 8th at 7am. Location is Sansone Park Place Shopping Center on Eastern, south of the 215. Skip encourages everyone to come out & enjoy all the great cars! On September 8th we will celebrate Christmas in September. This is a community service event benefiting The Animal Foundation of Clark County. Julie Cantonwine is asking members to donate any pet supplies that they can. She has provided a list of items that are needed. Bring these items to the September General Membership Meeting. The Mossybacks of Vegas Vettes Tuacahn 2016 want all LVCA members to join the caravan to the Casablanca Resort in Mesquite, NV. If you are interested in attending this event, contact Denise Karpa for details about obtaining rooms & show tickets. Tarzan is the production that will be at the Tuacahn Amphitheater in St George, UT. After arriving in Mesquite, we'll have lunch, check in to the hotel and enjoy the afternoon before we bus to Tuacahn. On Sunday there will be free time & dinner at Katherine's Steakhouse. This will be a community service event to benefit St. Jude's Ranch. Detailed information is in the Vetter and on the Website. On September 15th-18th the Silver State Classic Challenge will take place in Ely, NV. Our coordinators, Ray & Barbara Belak will be driving this time, so Lanny & Ken will be sending cars to the starting line. Please contact Ray or Barbara if you are interested in helping or racing. The President's Run to Prescott will be September 22nd-25th. The Prescott Vette Sette Corvette Club will have their 10th Annual All Corvettes Car Show. They expect 275 Corvettes! The show is in support of the club's Charitable Foundation and this will make our event a community service event. See the Vetter or Website for more information. A room block is available for Friday and Saturday nights at the Prescott Resort & Casino. See Scott if you have any questions. MTT Autocross/SCCA RE#13 will be on September 25th at LVMS. October 1st will be the 2nd Annual Show & Shine Car Show at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Connie Gentry & Roy Hoernke are co chairing this community service event that will benefit the Speedway Children's Charities. Registration is online & will cost $30 per car. Entrants will receive 4 free tickets to the NASCAR Truck Race that night. There will be a kid's zone, beer garden, live entertainment, food trucks, petting zoo, pet adoptions, door prizes & NASCAR Truck Driver Autograph session. Details are in the Vetter & on the Website. If you register, let Roy know so he can contact you with updates. October 8th & 9th will be the Mojave Mile RE#14, 15 & 16 in Mojave, CA. See the website for details. MTT Autocross RE#17 will be October 16th at LV Motor Speedway/SCCA. On October 21st there is a need for Convertibles to provide Canyon Springs HS Homecoming Support. Please see Roy if you can participate. Participants receive a community service point. Monster Mash Car Bash will be October 22nd at the New Horizons Center for Learning from 10 am to 3 pm. This is a community service event to benefit NHCL & Students with learning difficulties. Entry fee is $25. See the Vetter & Website for more details. CA Coastal Cruise will be October 29th to November 5th. Ports of Call are San Francisco, Santa Barbara, and San Diego & Ensenada, Mexico. Check the Vetter & Website or contact Benita Klaizner for more details. There will be a Cowboy Brunch & St Jude's Ranch Children's Gift Giving on November 12th starting at 11 am located at Hemenway Valley Park, Boulder City. Bonnie Corbett is chairing this Mossyback Event. It is a Member Appreciation Brunch & community service event. Children's names will be available in September so members can provide Christmas gifts by November 12th. The cost of the brunch will be $15 per person. LVCA Members who attend the Brunch will receive their money back at the event as a token of appreciation. For more details see the Vetter & the Website. Roy reminded all event chairmen to please turn in the event sign-in sheets to him ASAP. Remember, anyone can plan and present an event. See Roy for details!

Miscellaneous Announcements: Denise Karpa reminded everyone that family & friends can also attend the Mossybacks Tuacahn 2016 Event if they are interested. Contact Denise. Scott Mergele mentioned the Chump Car Racing that will take place at LVMS on August 13th- August 14th from 7 pm to 8am. See Scott to learn more about this racing-- Something about only being able to spend $500 for car equipment? See Scott! Dawn Gregorio is selling a 2001 Millennium Yellow Convertible with 43k miles & excellent shape. Well taken care of by the Vettech. See Dawn or Jim for more details. Cindy Fuller spoke about the October 15th One Hero at a Time Event held at the Joker's Wild Casino, Henderson. This will be a community service event with all proceeds going to 1 Veteran. Donations are $20-$25. There will be separate Corvette parking. Cindy will have more details & a flyer at our next meeting.

Clean Car Award was won by Bill Thomas with his 2006 C6 Black Coupe.

Badge Drawing: Caroline Orzes was not present. Next month's drawing will be $70.

50/50: Mike Frizzell had the winning ticket for $123.

Raffle was conducted with the items from our sponsor, Findlay Chevrolet and from members. Raffle prize winners were Mike F, Brenda C, Bill T, Victor R Sr, Terry R, Jim L & Linda S.
