General Membership Meeting - March 10, 2016 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Kathy Clapp at 7:30PM at the McDonald Ranch Clubhouse Banquet Room. She thanked everyone for coming tonight. There were 58 members and 6 guests present.

Findlay Chevrolet: Slim Stephens, said Findlay Chevrolet feels privileged to be our club sponsor. If we need anything done, get a hold of Slim so he can make things happen. Service Department will check any check engine light for free. Also Paul will make sure that he checks your car's A/C if the car is in for service. If your car needs an alignment, it will be $50 off the service this month only. Slim introduced Jim Smicklas of Express Collision Center. Slim recommends Jim & his company if anyone needs paint or body work done on their car. Information will be on the Web site.

Motion to approve the February 11, 2016 minutes: Benita Klaizner made the motion to approve the minutes as written; Jerry Lawrence seconded. Motion passed.

Birthdays for the month of March were read by Lin Hoernke.

President Report: Kathy is very happy to announce that there are over 50 volunteers that will be helping with the club this year. Audit report was completed on February 28th. Findings will be discussed under new business. Kathy is reviewing some proposed by-law changes. These will be discussed once the review is complete.

New Business:
Bob O'Brien announced the approval of the E-board to spend $500 for a club banner to be displayed at the National Corvette Museum. After the banner has been up for 1 year, the museum will send the banner back to our club. Bob also encouraged everyone to look at the NCM new web site. It is up & running now. The Audit Report was presented by Dawn Gregorio. She explained that everything checked out & is in order. The Audit Committee thanked Connie for the great job she is doing. Connie Gentry then gave a treasurer's report. The tax paper work has been completed. We will need to pay $1456.00 for 2015 taxes. This was due to the facility fee that was collected in 2015 but was to be used in 2016. Connie has bought a new Quick Books program to improve record keeping. There will be a revised profit & loss report on the Web site. If anyone is interested in seeing current financial information, see Connie after meetings because she always has that information with her.

Introduction of New & Prospective Members: Julie Cantonwine reported we have 164 members. Guests this evening were William Cook (a 20 year Mossyback!), James Dorio, Cindy Reay, Shanna Sutton, Brent Garrison & Paul Savage. Receiving their LVCA plaques were Claudette and Mike Frizzell.

Committee Reports:
Sunshine: Terry Rees read Thank You notes from Benita Klaizner & Jan Watson for the cards & plants they received from the club. Cindy & John Fuller are 2nd time Grandparents-a Grandson. The following members are celebrating their wedding anniversary: Carl & Bonnie Corbett-37 years.

Drag Racing: Ken R reported about the great weather & 12 participants that enjoyed themselves at the LVMS Drag Stripe. Gary M clocked 132mph. Several drivers did very well with street tires. Lanny L & Gary M finished with only a thousands of a second difference. Come out & watch the fun if you don't want to race!

Racer's Edge Series: Lanny L presented the trophies for the Drag Racing. He explained the new trophies that will replace last year's. It will be possible to put several name plaques on each trophy so less room will be used to display a racer's wins. 3rd place went to Connie G; 2nd place went to Gary M; and 1st place was Lanny L. Lanny announced upcoming events for March: 3/12 will be Drag Racing & 3/20 will be Autocross. Both events will be at the LVMS. See the web site for more information.

Upcoming Events: Events Chair Roy Hoernke introduced the upcoming events. St Patrick's Day Parade will be 3/12 in Henderson. Benita will need 6 convertibles to drive the parade dignitaries at the beginning of the parade. Staging will start at 8:30am in the LDS parking lot at Water & Ocean Streets. There will be drinks & goodies to eat while waiting. After the parade, those who want to have lunch will drive to Metro Pizza, Horizon Ridge & Stephanie. This is a community service event. $5 per person donation will be made to St Baldrick's Foundation in memory of Lindsey Ledwon, Nancy & Dennis Ledwon's Granddaughter. Cars and Coffee will be on 4/9 at 7am. Location is Sansone Park Place Shopping Center on Eastern, south of the 215. Skip K stated more information is in the Vetter & on the Web site. Mike B spoke about Mojave Mile/Magnum. This event will be 4/9th & 4/10th at the Mojave Airport in Mojave, CA. There will be a half mile, 1 mile & 1 ½ mile course. The event is full, but if you see Mike, he'll see what he can do. Mike gave a Heads-Up regarding an event called High Roller 100. It is an open road race driven on a race track. The race is done in 2 legs for a total of 100 miles. Mike is looking for a fall date for the race. Chariots of Fire will take place on 4/16 at High Noon. This event will involve wheels & 2 participants on a short autocross-like race course. This is a community service event to benefit Veterans Village. Cost will be $10 per member or $15 per nonmember. All money collected will be given to Veterans Village. Lunch will follow at Miller's Ale House on Stephanie in Henderson. More information is found in the Vetter or on the Web site. Classy Vettes Dinner will be on Friday 4/29th starting at 6pm until ? pm. It is located at Nacho Daddy in Summerlin at Sahara & Fort Apache. THERE MAY BE A SURPRISE! There will be a 10% discount on food (not on drinks). Brenda C will have a signup sheet at our next membership meeting. California Coastal Cruise is a LVCA sanctioned event scheduled for 10/29th through 11/5th. Benita has 3 members helping her organize fun & games for the cruise & will give updates the closer to the cruise departure date. For more information, see the flyer in the Vetter or on the Web site. Roy reminded all members that plan events to remember to take photos so they can be posted in the Vetter & on the Web site.

Miscellaneous Announcements: Kathy reminded members to pick up their Awards Banquet photos if they have not done so. They are on the stage. Jerry L's band will be playing at Paddy's Pub at Flamingo & Pecos on 3/17th, St Patrick's Day. Flyers are on the tables with more information. Sally M read a Thank You note from Street Teens for our donations of toiletries & food items. Pat R spoke regarding the Corvette Track Days on 5/7th & 5/8th at the Spring Mountain Motorsports track in Pahrump, NV. Drivers will use their own cars. 2005SA helmets must be worn. Convertibles must have roll protection to drive on the race course. Cost is $400 for 1 driver & $700 for 2 drivers. If there will be 2 drivers, they must be in separate run groups. The event is limited to 100 drivers. More information can be found on the Web site. Donna M let members know that Russ Reiner & Judy Harrison have excess gold fish to give away if anyone is interested. Give Russ & Judy a call. Benita K commented on the Monday Night Dance flyers on the tables. Dances are held from 6pm-9pm at Russell & Eastern. See the flyers. Ken R mentioned that In-N-Out Burgers have a really cool new T-shirt for sale.

Clean Car Award was won by Linda Simpson with her 2016 Long Beach Red Z06 Convertible.

Badge Drawing: Debra Leatham won $25.

50/50: Carl Hastings had the winning ticket for $122.

Raffle was conducted with the items from our sponsor, Findlay Chevrolet & from members. Raffle prize winners were Bob O, Mike & Marsha B, Mike B, Terry R, Mike & Claudette F, Richard B & Gary M.
