The meeting was
called to order by President Scott Mergele at 7:30 PM at the Landings
Restaurant. There were 60 members and 4 guests present. Scott Mergele
welcomed everyone here tonight. Scott Mergele thanked Kathy Clapp &
Holley Holran for doing the vouchers and raffle tickets tonight. He
also thanked Pat Russell for putting the Website back together.
Findlay Chevrolet: Slim Stephens & Paul Patane thanked the club
for their business and support. Findlay Chevrolet is proud to be our
sponsor.
Motion to approve the September 2015 minutes: Cindy Fuller made
the motion to approve as presented, Mark Wynne seconded, motion passed,
motion approved.
Birthdays: for this month were read by Ron Petersen.
President Report: Scott Mergele stated that a group of members
met with Gary Cockriel, the P. R. Manager from the Corvette Museum.
We also had a guest from the Auckland Corvette club at the meeting,
Dean Hogg. Dean Hogg also attended the Super Sonic Supper the day before
and enjoyed meeting several of our members. Scott Mergele also requested
that who ever has the gavel to please return it by the December meeting.
Old Business: Scott Mergele reported that the Nomination Committee
has been calling all members regarding the election for next years officers.
We need people to step forward. Please think about running for office
and/or one of the committee positions.
New Business: Scott Mergele reported that for the months of November
and December meetings that Marie of the the Landings Restaurant is looking
into having the meetings downstairs in the Airport Conference Room that
can handle a larger format. She will also still be having dinner upstairs
in her restaurant before the meeting, possibly a turkey buffet.
Introduction of New & Prospective Members: Julie Cantonwine
announced that we have 3 visitors this evening. Visitors here tonight
are: Dick Brion, Dick Krupo and Lucia Gonzalez. She welcomed new member
Robert Lisenbey.
Committee Reports:
Sunshine: Terry Rees reported on some members: Ken & Kay
Thomas's son is in hospice. Jim Gregorius is in hospice at his home
in St. George, UT. Jim Wolf, a former member, will be removed from life
support tomorrow morning. Greg Whiteman is at home from surgery. Bonnie
Corbett is here tonight following her ankle accident. Nita Russell is
also here tonight following her foot surgery. Marsha Borders had shoulder
surgery. Holley Holran sent a thank you card to the club for the thoughts
and prayers during her knee surgery. She reports that she now has 2
great knees and 2 straight legs. Jim Weeks is retiring this month. Mark
Wynn welcomed a new grandson who is also his namesake.
Racer's Edge Series: Lanny Lowman stated the next Auto Cross
Race's will be 10/11, 11/15-16. He gave trophies to the following members:
Ken Rees for 1st Place in the Bracket Race; Silver State Race, 1st Place
in the150 Series went to Lanny Lowman and his son. Also receiving an
award at Silver State was a "most beautiful car" award, this
year won by our own Ken & Terry Rees.
Drag Racing Series: Ken Rees stated that this years series is
over and everyone had a great time. He stated to think about coming
out and being a part of this series. It is great fun and a great experience.
Storekeeper: Cindy Fuller said that she has older club shirts
for $10.00 - men's small. She also has long sleeve t-shirts and denim
shirts available, remember our cold weather is coming. There are even
thermal mugs for $10.00
Upcoming Events: Roy Hoernke brought up Skip Kelley to tell us
of the "Beatty Day's Run" on Saturday, 10/31. There is a parade,
car show, good food - good music - a good fun, they will be having chicken
drop bingo also. This is a Community Service event. Bonnie Corbett will
be chairing a "Toy Drive" on 10/16 at Lake Las Vegas in the
Essence and Herbs Rest. from 4 - 6 PM. See her for a child's name and
bring gift for that child to the toy drive. There is a $60.00 cap limit
for gifts. This is a Community Service event. Cindy Fuller informed
us of the "One Hero at a Time" event Saturday, 10/17 at Joker's
Wild. All proceeds go to a local veteran, it will run from 10 AM - 10
PM, there is a $20.00 entry donation. This is a Community Service event.
Kathy Clapp came forward to inform us of the "Monster Mash Car
Bash" on Saturday, 10/27. This is a car show and truck & treat
event to sponsor Autism. $25.00 per car. This is a Community Service
event. Sherrie Wood stated that this year's Mossyback event will be
a "Roundup on the River" in Laughlin, NV the week-end of 11/7
& 8. $10.00 per person, make your reservations now for the reduced
rate of $39.00 a night, (this will also include if you want to come
early on Friday 11/6). Meet on Saturday for the Rally and Poker Run
at 12:30 PM, there will also be Crazy Bowling on Saturday night at 7
PM. Skip Kelley then informed us that he will be chairing the "Serenades
of Life" again this year on 11/10, 6:30 PM at the Smith Center
$79.00 per person, floor seats. Skip's band, Alter'd Ego will be playing.
Kenny Loggins will be the featured guest. This is a Community Service
event. Roy Hoernke informed us of a car show "Vettes for Vets"
on Wednesday, 11/11 at the Hard Rock Cafe from 10 AM - 2 PM. There will
be trophies and raffle also. Discounts on food and beverages. This is
a Community Service event. Pat Russell came up to inform us of the "Turkey
Shoot" on Saturday 11/14, car show $20.00 per car. All proceeds
go to Las Vegas homeless Vets. This is on honor of a passed members
wife, Nancy Gass. This is a Community Service event. Ken Rees informed
us that this years "Dyno Shoot Out" will be combined with
that months Garage Gang on Saturday, 12/12, there will also be a bar-be-que.
It is $60.00 per car, it will run for 4 hours doing 5 cars an hour.
Miscellaneous Announcements: Barbara Belak stated that she has
2014 Silver State t-shirts to be given out to anyone tonight for free.
Carl Hastings gave us a heads-up that he will be having his Suitcase
Drive in December for the children of Child Haven. Victor Rodriguez,
Jr. brought a 1982 club jacket to show everyone. He also stated that
he will be having SEMA tickets, email him if you want to go. Skip Kelley
told that his band, Alter'd Ego, will be performing at the Eastside
Cannery on Saturday, 10/24 from 9 PM - 12 AM. Jim Weeks informed us
that he purchased a 1 hour drive of a locomotive at the Boulder City
Railroad for Peter Brock's birthday, he also has a card to sign to be
given to him from the club.
Clean Car Award: Larry Leard, Pat Russell and Joel Thies did
the judging this month. The winner was Ellie Johnson.
Badge Drawing: was not won this month.
50/50: was won by Rich Masluk.
Free Room: Sherrie Wood came forward to have a drawing for a
free room stay at the Mossyback event for members who have signed up
already. Julie Cantonwine won.
Motion to Adjourn: was made by Roy Hoernke, seconded by Holley
Holran. The motion carried and was passed. The meeting adjourned at
8:50 PM.
