General Membership Meeting - January 8, 2015 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by Vice-President Ron Petersen at 7:30 PM at the Landings Restaurant. There were 83 members and 8 guests present. Ron Petersen stated that President Scott Mergele was out this evening and he welcomed everyone here tonight.

Findlay Chevrolet: Ron Petersen stated that Doug Fleming was promoted as General Manager for the Findlay Volkswagen in Henderson. Slim Stephens will filling in for him at our meetings. Slim Stephens brought a C7 die cast model to be given away for the Clean Car Award. He also stated to see him directly for the recall on the C6, call him a couple of days before you want the work done.

The Landings owner Marie Saady thanked us for coming. If you have any questions, suggestions for food - liquor - or any help they can do, please feel free to see her directly.

A motion to approve the December 2014 meeting minutes - Sharron Grodzinsky made the motion to approve as presented, Bob O'Brien seconded, motion passed, motion approved.

Birthday's
were read by Julie Cantonwine.

Old Business: Ron Petersen introduced the 2015 Elected E-Board Members. Motion was made to accepted as voted by Doug Ealy, 2nd by Sharon Grodzinsky, motion passed, motion approved. Charley Jones stated that he has simplified the menu for the new website. The changes will be in the next couple of months. If you have any problems with the members only section, send him an email. Lin Hoernke reported that Nellis AFB now needs all Social Security Numbers for members attending the Banquet. She will be collecting your information tonight, she has to get these in by tomorrow. Once she has given all the information that they require, all information will be cross shredded.

New Business:
Ron Petersen reported that we are in need of a By-Laws Committee to handle any changes that come our way. He has asked for 3 independent members - one from each section: member for over 10 years - Carl Hastings volunteered and volunteered to chair committee, 5 - 10 years - Victor Rodriguez, Jr. volunteered and 1-5 years - Julie Cantonwine volunteered. Introduction of New and Prospective Members: Ellie Johnson stated that we now have 193 members. Visitors tonight are Gary Johnson, Max Kamai, Bridget Edwards, John and Caroline Orzes. Re-joining tonight are Pat Brumbaugh, Frank and Sandy Lewis. Ron Petersen stated that Ray and Barbara Belak have volunteered to Chair the NORC/SSCC Races this year. Barbara Belak stated they were anxious to get busy planning these 2 events and made an invitation for the ladies to come and volunteer to work. There is fun & work for everyone.

Committee Reports:

Sunshine: Scarlett Stuart gave a report on the following members: she read a card of thanks that we had received from the family of Luanne Montoya. Patti Maize is recovering from surgery. Cindy & John Fuller have welcomed their first grand child - a boy on New Years Day. Skip Kelley will be having heart surgery on 1/16. David Karpa is in the hospital with pneumonia. She stated also that she will be having a form up front next month to fill out with any information to be shared.
Storekeeper: Cindy Fuller reported that she has ordered more long sleeve t-shirts and has corrected the writing on the sleeve to read going down the sleeve. She also stated that any Club Polo or Club T-Shirts will be order only; she will not have any in stock.

Community Service:
Kathy Clapp reported that our first event will be the Laps for Charity on 1/25, see Connie Gentry for more information. Our 2nd event will be the Super Bowl Party on 2/1, see Sally McVane for more information. Remember that you need 5 events to receive your yearly CS pin.

Racer's Edge:
Lanny Lowman stated that the first event will be on 1/17 for the Dyno Shoot Out and there are still openings available. He also stated that Racer's Edge will sponsor 20 events this year. Auto Cross will be split this year - morning and afternoon. In order to race in the afternoon you must report in the morning to sign-up. Lanny Lowman then stated that there are a few new rules this year, they are posted on the website, so please check them out. The first race for Racer's Edge will be 1/18, Auto Cross, matching time trials. The first race for Drag Racing will be 3/14 Mike Borders came up to report that the Mojave Mile will be April 11-12 this year. If you plan to race you will get an 15% discount with your membership to LVCA. They also need volunteers to work - free entry if you race.

Upcoming Events.
Roy Hoernke reported that we will be having the monthly dinners again this year. The first one will be Friday, 1/16, 5:30 PM at the Miller Ale House in Henderson. Connie Gentry reported on Laps for Charity, Sunday 1/25. You can register on line or pay her the $30.00 for 3 laps. Meet at 9 AM, the old Shelby building at the speedway, we have a track time of 10 AM. The Cafe will be open again this year for us, so stop on by after the laps and have a bite to eat. This is a Community Service event. Sally McVane reported that they will be having a Super Bowl Party at their home on Sunday, 2/1, 2:30 PM. This is a Community Service event also, please bring coats or blankets for Catholic Charities. There will be raffles, betting boards and lots of fun. Bring a side dish or dessert. You can sign up with her tonight or register at the door - $5.00 for members, $7.00 non-members. Skip Kelley reported that the next Cars & Coffee will be Saturday, 8 AM, 2/7 in Henderson. Ron Petersen reported that the President's Run will be 2/13-16 in San Diego. Make your hotel reservations on line only. The hotel is Crowne Plaza, see the flyer for special reservation number. Sunday's Brunch Cruise, Horn Blower Line, is $86.00 adult and $85.00 senior, you must call them directly for your reservations, see the flyer for more special instructions. Charley Jones reported the following months diner will be the "Classy Vettes Dining" at the Bootlegger Bistro, we will have preferred parking out front. See him tonight to sign up, flyer is on the website. Dress is cocktail attire.

Miscellaneous Announcements:
Sally McVane reported that "by popular demand" she and Bob McVane will be planning a summer getaway to Idaho. Only 15 cars, so if you are interested see her tonight.

Clean Car Award:
Larry Leard & Bonnie Roush awarded this months winner to Rich McSimov.

Badge Drawing:
was not won this month.

50/50:
was won by Gary Moore.

A motion to adjourn:
Ron Petersen asked for a motion to adjourn which was made by Barbara Belak and seconded by Skip Kelley. The motion carried and passed. The meeting adjourned at 8:33 PM.
