General Membership Meeting - October 9, 2014 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Scott Mergele at 7:34 PM in the Stallion Mountain Golf Club Grill Room. There were 94 members and 7 guests present.

Scott Mergele welcomed everyone here tonight and a good turn out.

Findlay Chevrolet: Slim Stephens announced that Findlay Chevrolet will proudly be our sponsor for another year.

We have a event guest this evening, Tamee Fuller of the "One Hero At A Time" benefit and concert. This event will be held on Saturday, 10/18 at the Joker's Wild Casino. There will be a parade first thing in the morning to Nelson Landing, followed by us participating with a show of our cars. This is no cost to the club but will be a Community Service Event. If you can not attend this event, please give your donation to Cindy & John Fuller for your Community Service point.
Amy Groves came forward to announce that she will be hosting "High Roller" event of Tuesday, 10/28, $20.00 per person.

A motion to approve the August 2014 meeting minutes - Jim Gregorio made the motion to approve as presented, Debra Leatham seconded, motion passed, motion approved.

Birthday's were read by Linda Ford.

President's Report: Scott Mergele informed us that Stallion Mountain will not renew our contract for next year. Our last meeting here will be the December's meeting. He then announced that we will need to be looking into a new location. Our venue will be secure lighted parking, food before meeting and no charge for room. With football now also being on Thursday nights we might need to change our meeting night. He asked for a motion by show of hands to change meeting night to Wednesday if needed - idea passed unanimously. One of the places being looked into again is Calico Jack's. Scott Mergele also mentioned that we might have to consider paying a surcharge for a room or raise dues to cover these charges. Rex Wilhoite stated that he and Ron Petersen will be meeting with Calico Jack's this coming Monday at 11 AM to discuss requirements. Scott Mergele then informed us that as of 12/31/14 Pat Russell will be stepping down as Webmaster. If someone doesn't step up we may have to consider paying for someone to do our web site. He then stated that Pat Russell will be stepping down as Chairperson for the SSCC events. This event brings in $1,000.00 a year for us. We need 24 volunteers for each event (2 a year) and out of 209 members we can not come up with these 24 without begging. We need someone to step up as Chairman for the event.

Old Business: Scott Mergele stated that elections are coming up. So far we have the following number of people running for positions: 2 for President, 1 for Treasurer & 1 for Director. We still need members to run for Vice-President and Secretary. Please step-up.

New Business: Introduction of New and Prospective Members:
Lin Hoernke stated that our visitors tonight are: Karen Lowers, Michael Gatenby. And joining tonight are Jim & Patty Annis, Charley Jones and Scarlett Stuart. Getting her new member packet and plaque is Julie Cantonwine.

Committee Reports:

Racer's Edge: Lanny Lowman stated that Jerry Cline won the last drag race. He then announced that Pati Ackeret and Cathy Wilson won 1st Place at Silver State for the 120 class. He announced that this weekend will be the last Auto Cross of the season at the motor speedway.

Sunshine:
Terry Rees announced that her brother passed away, Marvin Maize lost his father, and our member Larry Malasoma passed away, and please keep Ellie Johnson in our prayers. Marc Mercury is on the mend from his surgery. Benita Klaizner and Linda Ford asked if anyone would be interest in giving help for Luanne Montoya in the form of making dinners for family, cards, etc. She is paralyzed on her left side, and is at her sons home. Please keep her in your prayers.

Storekeeper: Cindy Fuller stated that she has bling t-shirts, Vegas Vettes jackets, travel mugs and she is taking orders again for the long sleeve t-shirts.

Mossyback: Ken Ackeret & Bob O'Brien stated they are still taking Life Time Membership donations. The Sander's Winery in Pahrump event so far has 60 paid members going. Tickets for the signed box model are still being sold at $5.00 each. There will also be other raffle prizes.

Upcoming Events:
Roy Hoernke brought up Benita Klaizner to tell us about Comedy & Jazz on Saturday, 10/18, 7 PM $30.00 per person which includes a buffet dinner and show. We will have special parking for our Corvettes. Skip Kelley came up to tell us that the Garage Gang will be Saturday, 10/25 at the home of Ted Arhontas. He then informed us that on Sunday, 11/9 we will be going to the North West Gearhead on Cheyenne & Jones at 8 AM. The next Cars & Coffee will be Saturday, 12/6. Cindy Fuller came up to tell us that the Monster Mash Car Bash car show will be Saturday, 10/25 at the School for Learning & Autistic Children $25.00 per car, and there is room for 75 cars. Joanne Maioli told us of the Beatty Days Parade on Saturday, 11/1. Bring candy to throw to the kids during the parade. Pat Russell spoke on the upcoming Turkey Shoot on Saturday, 11/8 with the Vegas Valley Vettes. This will be held at the Clark County Shooting Range, $25.00 for the car show which includes a free shot & goody bag. This is a Community Service event for supporting the Homeless Vets. Denis Karpa & Skip Kelley spoke on the Pets & Vettes event on Saturday, 11/15. Car Show is $25.00 or $30.00 after 10/15. This will be our largest Community Service event this year. T-shirts, goody bags, vendors, animal awareness, animal adoption. There will be 3 different bands, food vendors and pet demonstrations. There will also be people choice and participants awards . Ron Petersen informed us on the Findlay Thanksgiving Car Show on Saturday, 11/22, this is a free car show and a free lunch. Scott Mergele spoke on Thanksgiving Host a Military Personnel. Invite a service person or 2 over to your home for Thanksgiving dinner. Kay Petersen is hosting the Cookie Exchange this year at her home on Sunday 12/14, This year will be a "Cowboy Western" theme. Bring 3 dozen home-baked cookies to exchange, along with a few to share. Also come dress in your favorite western gear. $6.00 per person

Miscellaneous Announcements: Carl Hastings is again this year doing the "Suitcase Drive" at our December General Membership Meeting on 12/11. Bring a suitcase for a child to be given to Child Haven. Rex Wilhoite has a rebuilt motor for sale. See Rex for details. Jerry Lawrence will be playing on Sunday 10/12 at Boca Park. There will also be a exotic car show there, including Corvettes. Victor Rodriquez, Jr. informed us that SEMA is coming soon and he will have tickets, see him if you are interested.

Clean Car Award: Larry Leard & Ken Kroeger awarded this months winner to Doug Ealy.

Badge Drawing:
was not won this month.

50/50: was won by Ron Mathews.

A motion to adjourn: Scott Mergele asked for a motion to adjourn which was made by Doug Ealy and seconded by Sherrie Wood. The motion carried and passed. The meeting adjourned at 8:47 PM.
