General Membership Meeting - September 11, 2014 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Scott Mergele at 7:30 PM in the Stallion Mountain Golf Club Grill Room. There were 77 members and 9 guests present. Scott Mergele welcomed everyone here tonight. Scott M. asked the membership for a moment of silence for 9/11.

Findlay Chevrolet: Doug Fleming and Paul Patane came forward as our sponsor. Doug Fleming talked about the Garage Gang at Findlay how everyone had a great time. Doug Fleming then gave Doug Ealy a Corvette pin for wearing a Findlay Chevrolet shirt. He then acknowledged Jim Weeks and gave him a Corvette sign. Doug Fleming's step-father was here visiting from Colorado and was present tonight, he gave him a Corvette pin also.

A motion to approve the August 2014 meeting minutes - Bob O'Brien made the motion to approve as presented, Nita Russell seconded, motion passed, motion approved.

Birthday's were read by Linda Ford.

President's Report: Scott Mergele made a suggestion to all members to invite a couple of service personnel to your home for Thanksgiving. Victor Rodriguez, Jr. will be working with us and the base to help set this up.

Old Business: Scott Mergele stated that elections are coming up. So far we have the following number of people running for positions: 2 for President, 1 for Treasurer & 1 for Director. We still need members to run for Vice-President and Secretary. We are still in need for a Webmaster, no one has come forward. Please step-up.

New Business: Introduction of New and Prospective Members: Ellie Johnson stated that dues notices have been mailed and are due on October 15th, after that there will be a late penalty fee. Our visitors tonight are: Rod Tenbrink, Tom Denning, Charley Jones, Scarlett Stuart, John Amerbach. And joining tonight are Julie Cantonwine, Keeton & Julie Zachary & Ed Newmann.
Amy Groves stated that she, Skip Kelley & Benita Klaizner have started a Facebook page for the "Las Vegas Corvettes Association". This is a closed page for member or invited guest only.

Committee Reports:

Drag & Racer's Edge: Ken Rees stated that Marsha Borders came out for the first time at Drag Racing and did a great job. The final Racer's Edge event will be an autocross in October.

Sunshine:
Terry Rees gave condolences to Lin Hoernke for the loss of her father, and to Irene Duis for the loss of her father. Marvin Maize had back surgery on Monday and is doing well. Terry Rees read a note from the Wiebersick family of thanks to the club for the loss of Jerry. Luanne Montoya had surgery for her Brain Cancer in Phoenix. They removed 90% of the tumor, she will be returning here to follow up with further treatment. Please remember Marc Mercury for his recovery from hip surgery.

Storekeeper: Cindy Fuller stated that she has travel mugs - $10.00, duffle bags - $15.00, denim long sleeve shirts - $35.00. She stated that she is taking orders for the next batch of the long sleeve t-shirts.

Mossyback: Ken Ackeret & Bob O'Brien reported on the Lifetime Membership of the NCM. The Mossyback Event at the Sanders Family Winery in Pahrump on 10/11 is coming up. There will be the raffle of the Zora Arkus-Duntov signed model, there will also be other raffle prizes. You do not need to be present to win the signed box and model, but the other raffle prizes will be given at the event. So buy your tickets, only $5.00 a ticket.

Upcoming Events: Roy Hoernke brought up Pat Russell to inform us on Silver State 9/18-21, it takes 24 volunteers to run this event from our club and we have all 24 signed up for this event. He also reminded us that this is a CS event, not just racing. Pat Russell then told us that on Saturday 10/4, there will be a Team Vegas Vettes Fest at his home. If you are interested in NORC & SSCC come on over and learn what all the fun is. Denise Karpa informed us that on Friday, 9/26 is the Goodie Two Shoes Event, at a neighborhood elementary school. This will be helping the students fit and pick out new shoes and socks. We will need 15 people to commit. There will be a lot of standing and kneeling. So come out, bring your Vette and wear your club shirts. Skip Kelley spoke on the Super Run, 9/27. Meet at noon at the Sonic Drive In on Pecos for lunch with discounts offered by Sonic. Then we will caravan to the Super Run Car Show in Henderson. Ken Ackeret spoke on the Mossyback Event on Saturday, 10/11 at the Sanders Family Winery in Pahrump - "An Adventure In Time" singing group will be entertaining us with music from the 20's up to the 60's. It is $20.00 per person due by 10/1. Skip Kelley stated that the next Cars & Coffee will be on Saturday 10/4 at 8 AM in Henderson. Pat Russell presented the Turkey Shoot presented by the Vegas Valley Vettes, will be held on Saturday 11/8 for the Homeless Vets. This is a Community Service event. It is the 3rd year in recognition of an ex-member Nancy Gass. Skip Kelley stated that the next Gearhead Gathering will be Saturday, 11/9, 8 AM location to be announced at a later date. Amy Groves reported that on Tuesday, 10/28 we will be going to the High Roller at 7 PM Cost is $27.00 per person. We will also have special parking at the valet, all together. Roy Hoernke announced also that on 11/1 we will be going to the Beatty Days Parade in Beatty. We will be caravanning that morning. On Saturday, 11/15 Denise Karpa reported that the Pets & Vettes will be held at Freedom Park, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM, she also noted that if you register your car for the car show you will locked in for the whole day, there will be no leaving due to the parking for the car show. Plans are coming together - music has been confirmed, venders are still coming in. We still need volunteers, sponsors and venders. Annoula Wylderich came forward to inform us that there are 22 animal groups that will be present with information and animals for adoption. There is also a Face Book page and other social media sites. They now have the Las Vegas City School District offering a essay contest for children. Roy Hoernke stated that we still have some open week-ends so see him to schedule an event.

Miscellaneous Announcements: Cindy Fuller reported that the Monster Mash Car Show will be held on 10/25 this year, to be held at the Autism School (Rainbow & Charleston) This is a Community Service event for Autism. There are only 80 spots available. So come on out, decorate your cars and yourself. There will be trophies awarded. Jerry Lawrence announced that he will be at the Bora Park Exotic Car Show, 7:30 AM - 10:30 AM, no charge, plus his band will be playing until 4 PM. Skip Kelley announced that his band, Alterd' Ego will be playing at Boulder Station - Railhead this Saturday night 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM Benita Klaizner will looking into putting together a comedy night, $18.00 per person. Bar, dinner and show on 10/18, Viva Las Vegas, 1201 Las Vegas Blvd. South at the Ron Decar's Event Center. Seats are still available.

Clean Car Award: Larry Leard awarded this months winner to Ken Kroeger.

Badge Drawing: was not won this month.

50/50: was won by Amy Groves.

A motion to adjourn: Scott Mergele asked for a motion to adjourn which was made by Jim Gregorio and seconded by Ray Belak. The motion carried and passed. The meeting adjourned at 8:50 PM.
