General Membership Meeting - August 14, 2014 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Scott Mergele at 7:30 PM in the Stallion Mountain Golf Club Grill Room. There were 73 members and 6 guests present. Scott Mergele welcomed everyone here tonight.

Findlay Chevrolet: Slim Stephens stated that Findlay appreciated the large turnout for the Garage Gang. He also thanked us for our business.

A motion to approve the July 2014 meeting minutes - Carl Hastings made the motion to approve as presented, Bob O'Brien seconded, motion passed, motion approved.

Birthday's were read by Lin Hoernke.

President's Report:
Scott Mergele thanked everyone who has stepped up with events this year. Many more events are coming in each month. Scott Mergele and a couple of members met with a family from Israel's Corvette Club last week. After dinner he took them for a ride, they commented that they have never gone that fast before.

Old Business: Bob Hulshouser introduced Dawn Prendes from Henry's Place and presented her with a check in the amout of $700.00 that was raised from the Wrangler's game. Dawn Prendes thanked everyone who donated and that last month they were able to break ground for Henry's Place. On September 27the they will be the beneficiary from the Dave Austin charity event of a poker run. You can follow the events of the construction on Face Book. Dawn Prendes again thanked everyone for all our help.

New Business: Introduction of New and Prospective Members: Ingrid O'Brien stated that our visitors tonight are: Calalina Toledo, Will White, Michael Gatenby, Mikko Melander, John Anderson and Julie Cantonwine.

Committee Reports:


Drag & Racer's Edge: Ken Rees presented a Racer's Edge Jacket to Pat Russell for all his work for NORC & SSCC Racing events. Ken Rees then stated the last race of the season will be August 30th, a E T Bracket Race.

Sunshine: Terry Rees gave condolences to Joel Thies for the loss of his father; Frank Gagliardi for the loss of his mother and to Wanda McCurry for the loss of her daughter and Patti & Marvin Maize for the loss of their grand-daughter. She also read a note from Patti Maize thanking us for all our support. Marvin Maize has injured his back and is laid up and off work for the last 2 weeks. Marc Mercury had hip surgery on 8/12. He is not in much pain and hopefully will be going home tomorrow. He asked that those who want to visit or phone to please hold off for at least another week.

Storekeeper: Cindy Fuller reported that the long sleeve women's shirts that were ordered with a scoop neck are actually crew neck. If you do not want this one that you ordered she will refund your money. She also has 5 extra for $15.00.

Mossyback: Ken Ackeret reported that they are still selling tickets for the special drawing of the model for $5.00 each. They drawing will be at the Mossyback Event in October.

Community Service: Denise Karpa reported that there is always room on the calendar for more community service (CS) events. And not to forget that if you chair a CS event that you will receive 2 points toward your 5 points needed at the end of the year for your CS pin.

Upcoming Events: Roy Hoernke brought up Connie Gentry to come tell us about her Mt. Charleston Run on Saturday 8/16. She reported that the temperature for the week end should be around 78 degrees. Lunch is $17.00 per person - cash only. Meet at the Santa Fe at 9:30 AM, leave at 9:45 AM, this is also a CS event for the Mt. Charleston Volunteer Fire Department, $5.00 each. Skip Kelley then came up to tell us about Get Your Licks on Rte 66 on Friday, 8/22. Meet at Henderson Fiesta at 10:00 AM, caravan to Kingman, have lunch, then we will meet up with the National Museum Caravan and travel to Seligman for a bite to each or ice cream cone, then back home. The next Garage Gang will be Saturday, 8/23rd at 7:00 AM at the home of Jim Weeks. Sept 6th is the next Cars & Coffee. Pat Russell informed us that Silver State is 9/18-21, it takes 24 volunteers to run this event from our club and we have all 24 signed up for this event. He also reminded us that this is a CS event, not just racing. Pat Russell then told us that on Saturday 10/4, there will be a Team Vegas Vettes Fest at his home. If you are interested in NORC & SSCC come on over and learn what all the fun is. Pat Russell then stated that he has posted the pricing for the new C7 on the website. Denise Karpa informed us that on Friday, 9/26 is the Goodie Two Shoes, at a neighborhood elementary school. This will be helping the students fit and pick out new shoes and socks. We will need 15 people to commit. There will be a lot of standing and kneeling. So come out, bring your Vet and wear your club shirts. Then on Saturday, 11/15 Denise Karpa reported that the Pets & Vettes will be held at Freedom Park, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM, she also noted that if you register your car for the car show you will locked in for the whole day, there will be no leaving due to the parking for the car show. Plans are coming together - music has been confirmed, venders are still coming in. We still need volunteers, sponsors and venders. Annoula Wylderich came forward to inform us that there are 22 animal groups that will be present with information and animals for adoption. There is also a Face Book page and other social media sites. She stated that they need flyers and a banner. Ken Ackeret & Roy Hoernke spoke on the Mossyback Event on Saturday, 10/11 at the Sanders Family Winery, Pahrump, NV - "An Adventure In Time" singing group will be entertaining us with music from the 20's up to the 60's. There are rooms available at the Best Western. If we get 40 or more people we will have a private tour and event. It is $20.00 per person due by 10/1.

Miscellaneous Announcements: Victor Rodriguez, Jr. informed us that SEMA will be in town 11/4-7. At this time he believes that we will be receiving tickets for the 4 days that can be shared. The last day they will have a cruise to the Linq, and a car show. Rex Wilhoite told us that he had a house fire with a total of $200,000.00 worth of damage. This includes his Vette - totaled. He just had $12,000 of repairs done on the Vet including a new engine installed. He bought the car back and is selling it for parts. Terry Rees said that their son, Mike, will be joining us for the Mt. Charleston Run and that he will be deployed to Afghanistan in October. Jerry Lawrence thanked everyone who came out to Boca Park on Sunday to hear his band play. Wednesday nights they will also be playing at McMullan's Pub, next to the Orleans. Mike Borders told us that his father, who is 92, and a retired Vet. has been honored by being picked to attend the Honor Flight to Washington DC. Mike Borders has volunteered to go along with him and be a guardian on 9/4. Jan Tucker informed us that her father is being honored on Ford Island in Hawaii.

Clean Car Award: Larry Leard and Pat Russell awarded this month's winner to Cheryl Blum.

Badge Drawing: was not won this month.

A motion to adjourn: Scott Mergele asked for a motion to adjourn which was made by Roy Hoernke and seconded by Jim Gregorio. The motion carried and passed. The meeting adjourned at 9:15 PM.
