General Membership Meeting - July 10, 2014 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Scott Mergele at 7:30 PM in the Stallion Mountain Golf Club Grill Room. There were 54 members and 3 guests present. Scott Mergele welcomed everyone here tonight.

Findlay Chevrolet: Doug Fleming stated that they like to recognize members and thank them for their support to Findlay. First was John "Popcorn" Finkowski, presented him with a Stingray pendant for just coming in. Secondly was Lanny Lowman, presented him with a Stingray pendant for being a people person who always like shaking hands with people. Doug Fleming reminded us of the Garage Gang on Saturday, July 26th is a Findlay's, there will be many fun things to do. Doug Fleming then announced that Findlay will sponsor all plaques and awards for the Pets & Vettes Car Show event. Slim Stephens got a new office, stop on by and say hello. He also offered his thanks to us and that Findlay loves us.

A motion to approve the June 2014 meeting minutes - Bob O'Brien made the motion to approve as presented, Doug Ealy seconded, motion passed, motion approved.

Birthday's were read by Skip Kelley

President's Report: Scott Mergele thanked everyone who donated to the Injured Officers fund, we raised over $800.00 Scott Mergele then asked for volunteers to be on the Election Committee for the 2015 Elections. The following members responded and volunteered: Dawn Gregorio, Barbara Belak and Doug Ealy. Scott Mergele than thanked them for their participation. He then reported that we are still in need of someone take over as Webmaster. If we do not get someone to take on this position we will have to pay someone to do it.

New Business: Introduction of New and Prospective Members:
Ingrid O'Brien stated that our visitors tonight are: E. Neuman and Cliff Singer. She then presented a new member plaque to Rich Gross.

Committee Reports:


Racer's Edge: Lanny Lowman handed out trophies to Ken Rees - 1st place in Drag Racing for the NORC (he was 3rd in the NORC 150 class); Darrell Wood - 2nd place in the Bracket Drags on 5/31; Gary Moore - 1st place in the Auto Cross on 6/8 and Darrell Wood - 2nd place in the Bracket Drags on 6/28

Drag Racing: Ken Rees announced that they had 13 racers at the last race, 6/28. After the race, Lanny Lowman was presented a plaque for perfect match time.

Sunshine:
Terry Rees reported that Jerry Wiebersick, a former Vice-President, has passed away. Let us show our support by sending cards or attending his service. Cliff Harris is in the hospital with a brain tumor. She then read a thank you card from Nita Russell who is on the mend. Roy & Lin Hoernke are new grandparents to their 11th grandchild, a girl named Addison.

Storekeeper:
Cindy Fuller reported that she still has 40th Anniversary t-shirt in large & x-large for $15.00 each. Denim shirts - long sleeve make great cover ups. Week-end get-a-way duffle bags for $15.00.

Mossyback:
Ken Ackeret & Bob O'Brien reported that they have collected $1,350.00 towards the Lifetime Membership at the NCM. They also reminded us that there is a jar on the welcome table for donations and that they are still selling tickets for the special drawing of the model for $5.00 each.

Community Service:
Denise Karpa reported that she has worked with Pat Russell and has posted a spread sheet on the web to show your events & points. Totals will also be posted in the Vetter next month. She also let us know that when you chair an event that you receive 2 points. Denise Karpa then stated that she has received a date to work for "Goody Two Shoes" on Friday, September 26th she needs volunteers. St. Baldrick's sent a thank you note for our participation in the St. Patrick's Day Parade, Henderson. We also received a thank you from The Salvation Army and another one from Street Teens.

Upcoming Events:
Roy Hoernke asked Skip Kelley to come up and report that the Garage Gang will be meeting at Findlay's on Saturday, July 26th, 9 AM. Skip Kelley then showed us the Garage Gang t-shirts that state "going under the hood on my tuff". Connie Gentry then came up to tell us about the Mt. Charleston get-a-way on Saturday, 8/16. This is also a Community Service event, $5.00 for the Mt. Charleston Volunteer Fire Department. Pat Russell stated that the SSCC will be 9/18-21, in Ely, NV. He still has a need for a couple to come up and help from Friday thru Sunday, you will receive your hotel room free. Denise Karpa & Annouia Wylderich then presented the Pets & Vettes Car Show event on Saturday, 11/15 at Freedom Park. This will be an all Corvette car show but open to everyone to come out and enjoy the day. There will be animals from the Humane Society, music, food vendors, and so much more. They also stated that they are in need of volunteers to help. Price for the car show is $25.00. they are also in need of donations for the goody bags and the silent auction. Roy Hoernke then stated that we are still in need of events.

Miscellaneous Announcements: Skip Kelley stated that it is the 20th Anniversary of the NCM. He would like to put together a event to meet the west coast car-a-van in Kingman, AZ and then drive to Seligman with them, stop at Snow Cap for an ice cream. David Gagliardi opened an Community Service Organization last year. This year they are sponsoring the PSI Seminar. They are giving $10,000.00 This is to feed kids during their Christmas break - 3 meals a day. At the end of this the kids will receive sweatshirts, a pair of shoes and shock. To help raise this money they are sponsoring a Poker Tournament at Binion's on Sunday, July 20th at 6 PM, it is a $115.00 buy in. So please come out and let us help these kids.

A motion to adjourn:
Scott Mergele asked for a motion to adjourn which was made by Skip Kelley and seconded by Jim Gregorio. The motion carried and passed. The meeting adjourned at 8:46 PM.
