to order by President Scott Mergele at 7:30 PM in the Stallion Mountain
Golf Club Grill Room. There were 65 members and 6 guests present. Scott
Mergele welcomed everyone here tonight. Findlay Chevrolet: Slim Stephens came forward to offer the first 5 members that came up to him will get free fluid changes. He then thanked us all for our business with Findlay. A motion to approve the May 2014 meeting minutes - Bob O'Brien made the motion to approve as presented, Lanny Lowman seconded, motion passed, motion approved. Birthday's were read by Sherrie Wood President's Report: Scott Mergele reported a couple in town from Germany looked up our club on line and went out to the race track and spent all day watching our Drag Racing. A gentleman from Israel will be in town on July 14-20 and wondered if he could meet with us. This will be after our general meeting so Scott Mergele will try to work with him and maybe set something up as a meet-n-greet. Scott Mergele then state that the Silver State and NV Open Road races are in dire need of volunteer workers. This is something that we have supported for many years, plus it is a Community Service Event. Please contact Pat Russell and lets support these fine race weekends. In with what happened this past week of the shooting of 2 of our police officers, Scott Mergele stated that we are a Community Club and asked if the club members would like to donate to the funds that have been set up for Fallen Officers. We could either take a donation from members tonight or we could set an amount, get the E-Board approval and send a check, he asked which one the members would prefer. The consensus of the members here tonight was to take a donation and sent to the Fallen Officers Fund. Scott Mergele then passed around a bucket for the donations. Scott Mergele then stated that Pat Russell has done great job with the website for 7 years, but now is stepping down from this post. He is in need of someone to take over the website. Pat Russell would like someone to step forward now so that Pat Russell can work with you for the next 6 months. Scott Mergele then stated that it is getting to be thinking of elections coming up. We need new blood. If you are thinking about a position see E-Board member for information. We will start taking names in October & November (if the by-law passes tonight), then will close at the end of the meeting in November, then the elections at the December meeting. Scott Mergele then reported that Findlay Chevrolet will sell any new C7 to our members at MSRP. Old Business: Ken Rees came forward to open the floor for discussion on the By-Law changes vote tonight. Connie Gentry spoke that she was opposed to the change because of the restrictions to be held on ballet, and that gives the person another month to have to campaign - which takes a lot of time. She then stated "if it's not broke, don't fix it". Ken then asked if there was any other discussion, he then called for the vote by show of hands to be counted. The vote was 23 - Yes and 42 - No, the By-Law change was not approved or adopted. New Business: Introduction of New and Prospective Members: Ellie Johnson stated that we have reached 202 members. The visitors tonight are: Jim Annis, Patty Annis and Michael Gatenby. Joining tonight is Rich Gross and re-joining tonight is Carl & Ann Wilson. She reported that she will be taking a couple of months vacation for July & August, Ingrid O'Brien will be taking over for her during this time. Scott Mergele stated that we are in need of events for the rest of this year. This can be runs, weekend trips, etc. Please see him or Roy Hoernke to set an event up. Committee Reports: Racer's Edge: Lanny Lowman handed out a trophy from a 2/23 race to Marvin Maize for 2nd Place Auto Cross. Also Lanny Lowman announced a new nick name for Gary Moore - RB, Rolling Back. Drag Racing: Ken Rees announced the results from the ET Bracket Racing, Round 4 on May 31st: Runner Up - Darrell Wood and in 1st Place was Mike Kerro. Next race will be 6/28 at approx. 9 PM Sunshine: Terry Rees read a thank you note from the Ely family in honor of Carol. She then reported that Nita Russell had broken her arm. Please send her a card or give her a call of cheer. Terry Rees then asked that if you are coming to the car show this Saturday to be sure to bring a flag, this is also Flag Day. She then announced that Larry & Irene Duis will be celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Storekeeper: Cindy Fuller reported that she ordered the first bath of the long sleeve t-shirts. She then showed us some of the other shirts that were available and if interested see her tonight or check out the shirts and merchandise on our website. Mossyback: Ken Ackeret brought up Bob O'Brien who stated that the NSM fund now has $936.00 at the start of tonight's meeting. Ken Ackeret then stated that they are still selling tickets for the signed box of the 1953, 1/25 scale model kit, box autographed by Zora Arkus-Duntov. Tickets are $5.00 each and they are only selling 400 tickets. Also he announced that if you bought tickets at the last general meeting to be sure that you have turned in your stub with your information filled out. Community Service: Denise Karpa announced about an event coming up Saturday, 11/15 at Freedom Park. This will be "Pets & Vettes" working with the Las Vegas Humane Society. This day will consist of a all Vette car show, pet adoption, food venders, live music. All monies raised will go to the Las Vegas Humane Society. They will be needing volunteers to help with this event. The committee for this event is Denise Karpa - Chairperson, Donna Mergele, Skip Kelley and Annoula Wylderich. Upcoming Events: Roy Hoernke asked Scott Mergele to come up and talk about the Frank Findlay's Fathers Day Car show on Saturday, 6/14. This is a Community Service event, $5.00 per person, 8 AM - 2 PM. Slim Stephens then came up to day that if you need a good detail for the car show he will offer it for 1/2 price on Friday. John Fuller then came up and spoke on the Garage Gang event on Saturday, 6/28 at his home at 9 AM. Roy Hoernke then spoke on the following coming up events: Saturday 7/5 Cars & Coffee; Saturday, 7/26 Garage Gang at Findlay Chevrolet and Saturday, 8/9 Cars & Coffee. Connie Gentry came up to tell us of her Mt. Charleston Get-A-Way for lunch on Saturday, 8/16. Will be leaving from the Santa Fe at 9:30 AM going up through Lee Canyon, lunch is $17.00 per person (cash). This is also a Community Service Event with a $5.00 donation per person for the Mt. Charleston Volunteer Fire Department. Pat Russell reported the Silver State Race is coming up on 9/18-21 and he needs volunteers. He needs you name by 7/10. Miscellaneous Announcements: Scott Mergele is selling his 91 - Z01 Corvette, 77,000 miles for $23,000.00 Ken Ackeret stated that he has a C5, daily driver which he reached 161,000 miles, it gets dirty - he cleans it. He just wanted to say how these cars do what we need and are great on top of that. Jerry Lawrence stated that his band will be playing on Father's Day at Boca Park, 1 - 4 PM. Clean Car Award: Larry Laird and Rex Wilhoite awarded this months winner to Carl Wilson Badge Drawing: was won by Bonnie Roush. 50/50: was won by Larry Laird. A motion to adjourn: Scott Mergele asked for a motion to adjourn which was made by Roy Hoernke and seconded by Holley Holran. The motion carried and passed. The meeting adjourned at 8:57 PM.
