General Membership Meeting - March 13, 2014 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Scott Mergele at 7:31 PM in the Stallion Mountain Golf Club Grill Room. There were 74 members and 9 guests present.

Scott Mergele started by stating a welcome to everyone here tonight.

Findlay Chevrolet: Slim Stevens came up and thanked each and everyone of us. Slim Stevens made a special recognition to all of us on how much he appreciates our business by offering a double discounts this month. He also stated that in the last 2 weeks he has had at least a dozen of our club members come in for service.

A motion to approve the February 2014 meeting minutes - Terry Rees made the motion to approve as presented, Bob O'Brien seconded, motion passed, motion approved.

Treasurer Report: Scott Mergele stated the 2013 Audit was still in progress. Taxes are being filed.

Birthday's were read by Skip Kelley.

Presidents Report: Scott Mergele reported that the NCCC had some new rules regarding insurance for guest and members. All guests must sign each waiver for the meetings or events. Also all minors must have parental consent and sign the parental waiver before participating in an event.

Old Business: In the past couple of our general membership meetings Scott Mergele has asked for some to take over the Sin City Suppers. Since no one has come forward, this event has been dropped.

New Business: Introduction of New and Prospective Members:
Ellie Johnson stated that we now have 200 members with 3 new members joining tonight. The new members are Frank & Carol Alba and Linda Allen. Visitors tonight are: Jerry Blackoeby, Maueen "Moe" Petet, Dawn Prendes, Jr. Davenport, Robin Ferraro, Bruce Petrie, Kenny & Anna Frund and Andrew Dixon. Scott Mergele presented that the Life Membership to the NCM is a lifetime amount of $2,500.00 and that we have already raised $300.00. Scott Mergele suggested that during the year we have fund raisers, donations and special events to raise this money. Bob O'Brien will have more on this next month.

Committee Reports:

Racer's Edge: Lanny Lowman reported that on Sunday, 2/23 Pati Ackeret came in 1st Place and Marvin Maize came in 2nd, Lanny Lowman handed out a plaque to Pati Ackeret; Marvin Maize was not present. Lanny Lowman informed us the next Drag Race is next Sunday, 3/16. Come out either to race, ride along with a Racer's Edge member or just to observe.

Drag Racing: Ken Rees stated that at the President's Run, Ranger Rick showed up and took Skip Kelley aside to have a little talk. Turned out that Skip Kelley was asking how to become a Junior Ranger. So Ranger Rick gave everything to Ken Rees to give to Skip Kelley. Ken Rees presented him with an official activity book and a Junior Ranger hat. Ken Rees then read the Junior Ranger Oath with Skip Kelley to make it official. Ken Rees then stated that the Drag Racing Series will have 5 events this year. If you are interested you will need a helmet - 2005 or newer, long pants, covered shoulder arm shirt and closed shoes. Come out and watch.

Community Service: Denise Karpa reported that she would like to see us give of our time this year, not just give money. She is asking for ideas such as working at a homeless shelter, serve meals to the homeless, working with Goody-2-Shoes, etc. If you have an idea and would like to put on one of these events please see her.

Website: Pat Russell handed out Response cards to each table. Please fill them out and return to him regarding the website. He will be cleaning up the website in the next month. Pat Russell reminded us that there is a "For Sale" link on the website, if you have pictures of your car, and an event please email them to him to post. If anyone is interested in becoming the Web Master see Pat Russell or give him a call. He will be giving up this position come January 2015. Pat Russell then stated that he is still in need of 6 volunteers for the Nevada Open Road Event, which includes your hotel room for the week-end.

Sunshine: Terry Rees started off by welcoming back Dave Karpa who was recovering from surgery and rehab. She then related back to the club a thank you from Dave Karpa for all the cards, prayers and jokes from everyone. Terry Rees informed us that Bill Martin and Maureen Petet will be getting married on April 26th. Bonnie & Carl Corbett celebrated their 35th Wedding Anniversary. Terry Rees then told us that a past and dear member passed away - Carol Ely, on 2/28/14. We sent a beautiful floral arrangement.

Storekeeper: Cindy Fuller showed off the new jacket, men's sizes up to 4X. She then informed us that she will have a new long sleeve t-shirt for $15.00, these need to be ordered in bulks of 25, so get your order in tonight so she can get in the first bulk. She will also be getting a 12-pack cooler for $20.00, embroidered with our logo. And then this fall she will be getting a stadium blanket, $35.00 with our logo.

Upcoming Events: Roy Hoernke brought up Bob Hulshouser, he stated that he has Wrangler tickets tonight with him. He then welcomed Dawn Prendes from Henry's Place. She spoke on the 14 acres in Cedar City that was approved in August 2013 for Henry's Place. She then thanked us for all that we have done for this charity and how much she enjoyed working with us. Their next event is a Celebrity Golf Tournament on 4/26/14. She would like to have a team of 4 from LVCA and she will sponsor them for this tournament as her guest. See her after the meeting to sign up. Denise Karpa came up and spoke on the St. Patrick's Day Parade this Saturday 3/15/14. She thanked everyone for signing up, and that we have reached our capacity. The charity for this event is St. Baldrick's and that you still can donate $5.00 and receive 1 Community Service point. Skip Kelley then came up and spoke on 3 events. The first one is this Saturday, 3/15/14 the Garage Gang will meet at 1 PM at Skip Kelley's house. Then on Wednesday, 3/26/14 Findlay is having a Racer's Appreciation Day from 6 - 8 PM. Free food & drinks, music, dragsters, funny cars. There will be up-front special parking for 20 of our Vettes. Come out and support our sponsor. The last event is Cars & Coffee on Saturday, 4/5/14 at 7 AM in Henderson. Scott Mergele spoke of the Mojave Mile on 4/12-13/14, he has 6 volunteers to help work this event but might need 2 more. Mike Rabe came up to inform us of the Kingman Run on Saturday, 5/10/14. We will caravan to Kingman, have lunch at the Dam Bar, then drive over to Rudy & Cheryl Blum house for dessert. This is also an Community Service event, $5.00 per person for St. Jude's. Roy Hoernke spoke on the Tivoilli Car Show on Friday evening, 5/16/14. There will be hats, plaques and movies in the park. Roy Hoernke then informed us on the Car Stars Event on Friday & Saturday, 5/16-17/14. Friday will be a parade down Las Vegas Blvd. Saturday will be a car show on Fremont Street. He informed us that this will be for only 15 cars, need one from every series +: C1 - C7.

Miscellaneous Announcements: Jerry Lawrence spoke that his band will be performing on St. Patrick's Day from 4 PM - 8 PM at Patty's Pub, Flamingo & Pecos. Carl Hastings had 2 beach chairs, the LVCA chairs, up for raffle to benefit Henry's Place. The pair sold for $30.00 Bonnie Corbett came up to let us know that she is putting together a Alaskan Cruise for August 17-24/14 on Norwegian Lines. There will be 16 cabins. If you are interest she will need a $250.00 non-refundable deposit. John Fuller has a pair of tail light covers for a C5 that he is giving away.

Clean Car Award: Ron Mathews & Willy Salzmann awarded this months winner to Larry Leard.

Badge Drawing: No winner this month.

Corvette Trivia Drawing: Was won by Jerry Lawrence this month.

50/50 was won by Victor Rodriguez, Jr.

A motion to adjourn: Scott Mergele asked for a motion to adjourn which was made by Ken Rees and seconded by Kathy Clapp. The motion carried and passed. The meeting adjourned at 8:53 PM.
