The meeting was called
to order by President Scott Mergele at 7:30 PM in the Stallion Mountain
Golf Club Grill Room. There were 79 members and 14 guests present.
Scott Mergele started by stating a welcome to everyone here tonight.
Findlay Chevrolet: Doug Fleming told us that Findlay has made 5 new
commercials which are casts with all Findlay employees. Doug Fleming presented
a Corvette computer mouse to Scott Mergele as a thank you gift. Then he
presented hats to Ken Rees and Richard Musluk for their support of Findlay.
Slim Stevens came up and thanked each and everyone of us. Slim Stevens made
a special recognition to Skip Kelley as a pleasure and honor to be associated
with him and the club. He presented Slim Kelley with a $100.00 gift certificate.
A motion to approve the January 2014 meeting minutes - Sharron Grodzinsky
made the motion to approve as presented, Bob O'Brien seconded, motion carried,
motion approved.
Birthday's were read by Benita Klaizner.
Presidents Report: Scott Mergele reported that the NCCC received our
check last week for our membership. Scott Mergele stated that he would like
to see more ladies events. He also asked for someone to come forward to
chair the Sin City Suppers. This was a well attended event and would like
to see it continue. If you are interested please see Roy Hoernke. Scott
Mergele then asked the members to bring in raffle items for the raffle drawings.
He then thanked Carl Corbett for bringing in items.
Treasurer’s Report:
Connie Gentry stated that she is still working on the 2013 budget to get
it finalized. She then informed us that due to losing monies from our
sponsor, but we will be able to make $300.00 for new cars sold with referral
from a member, also $100.00 to the member for the referral, we will have
to charge or raise monies for special large money events such as the Banquet.
Connie Gentry then presented the 2014 budget, which balanced. she then
asked for a motion to approve the 2014 budget as presented. Lanny Lowman
first, Jim Gregorio seconded, motion carried, motion approved.
Old Business: No old business
New Business: Introduction of New and Prospective Members: Ellie Johnson
stated that we have 197 members coming into this meeting tonight, but
there are 3 new members joining tonight which brings us up to 200. Tonight's
guests are Jackie & Tim Fleenor, Steve Gregg, Jim & Patty Annis,
Raymond Visser, Larry & Erica Guerra, Emily Aguero, Bob and Kelli
Reed. Joining tonight are Jim Frank & Carol Alba and Linda Allen.
Receiving his membership plaque tonight is James Buszek.
Committee Reports:
Racer's Edge: Lanny Lowman reported that on Sunday, 2/23 will be
an Auto Cross at the LVMS Bull Ring, matching time trials. Come out either
to race, ride along with a Racer's Edge member or just to observe. Lanny
Lowman gave out plagues for the 1/19 Auto Cross: 1st Place to Darrell
Wood and 2nd Place was Ken Rees.
Drag Racing: Ken Rees stated that the 2013 1st Place winner was
Mike Kerro. Ken Rees presented him with a jacket and trophy.
NCCC: Rex Wilhoite recognized Carl & Bonnie Corbett as the
top points earned for 2013. They participated in NCCC sanctioned events
and volunteered at the NCCC Convention last year.
Storekeeper: Cindy Fuller stated that this is layering season.
She then showed the polo shirt, denim shirt and jacket. Everything on
sale at the store. Men's jackets come in up to 5X, ladies to XL, but do
run small. Cindy Fuller them informed us that she has new ideas coming
up for the summer.
Sunshine: Terry Rees reported that Rich McSimov was recuperating
well after shoulder surgery. David Karpa has had another surgery and was
recuperating at a rehab center. David Karpa would greatly appreciate hearing
from you with notes and funny jokes. You can see Terry Rees for his email
address. Carl & Bonnie Corbett have had their first grandson on 1/24.
Troy Rees was promoted last month.
Upcoming Events: Roy Hoernke stated that this is "your club"
so let's get out and have some events. He then brought up Skip Kelley
who reported that on Saturday & Sunday, 2/15-16 was his President
Run to Beatty and other points. If you can not make it for the entire
run please come out and meet us in Goodsprings for dinner on Sunday night.
Skip Kelley then reported that the Garage Gang will be meeting on Saturday,
2/22 at the home of John Fuller. The group will be working on windows
and wiring for a C3 and of course what anyone brings in to work on. He
then reported that Cars & Coffee will be Saturday, 3/8, 8 AM. Please
come out for fun, meet new people and talk cars. There will be a Findlay
Racer's Appreciation Car Show on Wednesday, 3/26 at Findlay's. Free food,
music, autograph's. Everyone come out and support our sponsor. Benita
Klaizner came out to inform us that the St. Patrick's Day Parade will
be Saturday, 3/15 in Henderson, $5.00 per car, this will also be a Community
Service event for St. Baldwick's. Following the parade will be a car show
on Water St., $20/25.00 per car. Bob Hulshouser came up to report that
the Wranglers night will be on Saturday, 3/29. This will also be a Community
Service for Henry's Place. Bob Hulshouser then introduced Daniel Silverstein
from the Wranglers main office who will be selling tickets tonight which
are $13.00 each with $7.50 going to Henry's Place. He can take cash and
credit. Scott Mergele mentioned that the Mojave Mile will be 4/12-13.
6 volunteers have signed up already. Pat Russell came up to say that the
Open Road Race needs a couple more volunteers. Roy Hoernke told us that
a car show at Tivoli Village will be Friday, 3/19, open to all make and
models, entertainment, music, plaques. Roy Hoernke then spoke of a event
that was from the past - Dirty Ladies Car Show. He asked if anyone would
like to chair this and bring it back.
Miscellaneous Announcements: Ken Rees has C6 tires for sale, only
2 years old - $400.00 Bonnie Corbett reported that she would be interested
in putting together an Alaska cruise in August 2014. If anyone was interest
please see her after the meeting. Carl Hastings has a friend who is selling
his 94 Coupe for $12,000.00 Sally McVane reported that the Super Bowl
Party brought in 40 bags for the Street Teens also raised $219.00 for
the club. Victor Rodriguez, Jr. reported that the Las Vegas Porsche Club
is sponsoring a driving event at Spring Mountain Race Track on 4/5-6 for
$350.00 for the weekend. There are 74 entries still open. Bob McVane's
friend is selling his 96 Coupe, white, LP4 conversion for $12,000.00 or
best offer. Skip Kelley stated that his band "Alterd Ego" will
be playing on Saturday, 3/8, 7 PM, Boulder Station in the Railhead. Jim
Weeks & Brenda Michaels presented Skip Kelley with a picture of his
car which had been signed by Peter Brock.
Clean Car Award: Larry Leard & Rudy Blum awarded this months
winner to Ron Mathews (for his 2nd Corvette).
Badge Drawing: No winner this month.
Corvette Trivia Drawing: Was won by Larry Leard this month.
A motion to adjourn: Scott Mergele asked for a motion to adjourn
which was made by Skip Kelley and seconded by Roy Hoernke. The motion
carried and passed. The meeting adjourned at 8:50 PM.
