General Membership Meeting - January 9, 2014 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Scott Mergele at 7:30 PM in the Stallion Mountain Golf Club Grill Room. There were 87 members and 6 guests present.

Scott Mergele started by stating a welcome to everyone here tonight. Scott Mergele then asked the membership for Approval of the 2014 E-Board Members. Carl Corbett made the motion to approve as presented, Holley Holran seconded, motion carried, motion approved.

Findlay Chevrolet: Slim Stevens came up and thanked each and everyone of us. For his appreciation Slim Stevens is offering double discount for this month - see Slim Stevens when you arrive. Scott Mergele then came up and asked the membership for approval of Findlay Chevrolet as our sponsor in 2014. Sharron Grodzinsky made the motion to approve as presented, Bob O'Brien seconded, motion carried, motion approved.

A motion to approve the December 2013 meeting minutes - Barbara Belak made the motion to approve as presented, Pete Shevlin seconded, motion carried, motion approved.

Treasurer's Report: Connie Gentry stated that we are in good standing. She also stated that she will be working toward finalizing 2013 books. Dawn Gregorio and Lennard Grodzinsky will be conducting the 2013 audit.

Birthday's were read by Benita Klaizner.

Presidents Report: Scott Mergele stated that the Stallion Mountain agreement has been signed for 2014, buffet will vary per month. Scott Mergele also stated that we had 65% participation for our election in December. He also thanked Skip Kelley for the work he did last year as President, and that he will be a tuff one to follow.

Old Business:
Scott Mergele presented the vote for the Reserve Account By Law change. He then stated that we were changing the Reserve Account from 75% to 55%. We will maintain at least $25,000.00 in the reserve. We have more that that now. Lanny Lowman made the motion to approve as presented, Bob O'Brien seconded, motion carried, by raise of hands, vote was unanimous, motion approved.

New Business: Introduction of New and Prospective Members: Ellie Johnson stated that we have 195 members as of 1/1/14. Tonight's guests are Houston Brummett, Julie Wynne, Jim Buczek, Brian Knudson, Linda Allen and Brian Tabach. Joining tonight is Jim Buczek & Brian Knudson. Receiving their membership plaques tonight are Jack & Jay Jackson and Dean Schmidt.

Committee Reports:

Racer's Edge:
Lanny Lowman reported that they will be having 14 events this year. Currently they have 5 Auto Cross, Mojave Mile, NORC & SSCC scheduled, others to come. He also stated that there will be some rule changes this year, keep watch on the website for these changes. The first event is Sunday, 1/19 for a Matching Time Trials at the Bull Ring Race Track at 7:00 AM. You can sign up and pay tonight to participate.

Drag Racing: Ken Rees reported that they had a great time at the Dyno Shoot-out last month. 4 people were put in the Horsepower Clubs: Brian Knudson - 400 HP, Dawn Gregorio - 500 HP and Gary Moore - 600 HP. Drag Racing will be have 5 events this year, dates to follow, all will be over before June when the heat sets in.

Storekeeper: Cindy Fuller reported that we have a new jacket with a soft shell, fitted, tailored and very warm jacket. It sells for $65.00. Men's sizes go to 6X and woman's jackets to 4X. The store also has some 40th Anniversary T-Shirt available and Polo
Shirts are order only for $65.00.

Sunshine: Terry Rees stated that there is a clip board on the front table for contact information, also for announcements and publications. Terry Rees then reported that Rich McSimov had shoulder surgery, very painful, he is home and recovering. Dave Karpa had back surgery which turned out to be successful. He would appreciate any emails at this time. Steve & Jan Tucker just had their 14th grandchild, a girl. Bill Martin is engaged. Terry Rees then acknowledged the January Wedding Anniversaries.

Upcoming Events: Roy Hoernke stated that this is "your club" so let's get out and have some events. He then brought up Mike Borders to report on the Mojave Mile - 4/12-13 Mike Borders stated that he was in need of 6 volunteers for this week-end - 2 or 3 for tech inspections & 3-4 to work the grid and for relief workers. See Mike Borders or Roy Hoernke to sign up. If you are a member of LVCA you will receive a 15% discount for your racer's fees. If you volunteer and are a racer, your racer's fee will be comp, if you are strictly a volunteer you will receive your hotel free and some food comp. They would prefer knowledge of tech but will train. Skip Kelley then came up to report on the Garage Day event this Saturday, 1/11 at 10:00 AM at the home of Ted Arhontas. This week-end they will be working on C-4 weather striping and other stuff. Skip Kelley also stated that they are hoping to make this a yearly series event. While Skip Kelley was up here he stated that the next Cars & Coffee will be Saturday, 2/8 at 8:00 AM. Come out to see all the cars, visit with everyone and have a good time. Skip Kelley then reported his President's Run will be 2/15-16. Flyer is on website, 57 people only, $40.00 per person. Rupert Smith will be hosting a barbeque in Beatty on Saturday night. They will also be traveling on Sunday to and touring Scotty's Castle, lunch at Furnace Creek and ending in Goodsprings for dinner. 1/20 is the deadline for registration and hotel reservations. Everyone is welcome, even if you don't come for the whole week-end, please come on up to Goodsprings for the social time, 6:00 PM at the Pioneer Saloon. Benita Klaizner reported that Wine & Canvas will be held on Wednesday, 1/15, $35.00 per person at the home of Debra & Jim Leatham. BYOB and snack finger food pot-luck Ken Ackeret reported that the Annual Banquet will be Saturday, 1/25, 40 years running. At this time we have 108 participating. Laps for Charity is Sunday morning, 1/26. Connie Gentry stated that we will meet at the old Shelby parking lot at 8:15 AM for drivers meeting. $30.00 for 3 laps with speeds up to 75 mph, pictures are $10.00, another 3 laps are $20.00 Register on line, this is also a Community Service event. After the laps are completed we will be going to Moe's Racing Cafe, which he will be opening for us. So please plan on stopping in to have some breakfast or lunch. Sally McVane reported that the Super Bowl Party / Street Teens will be Sunday, 2/2 at 2:30PM, at their home. $5.00 per person for member and $7.00 for non members, this is a Community Service event. Benita Klaizner reported that the St. Patrick's Day Parade will be Saturday, 3/15 at 8:00 AM, she will also be needing 6-8 convertibles to drive the dignitaries around at the beginning. $5.00 per car, 30 cars only. The charity is St. Baldrick's Foundation again this year. There will also be a car show, $5.00 per car following the parade. Bring morning snacks to share. Bob Hulshouser reported that the Wrangler night will be Saturday, 3/29 at the Orleans Arena. This will be a Community Service event for Henry's Place. $15.00 per ticket, $7.50 goes directly toward charity. Register and order tickets on line. VIP parking will be available for us with our own security guard. Be there at 6:30 PM for picture, game starts at 7:05 PM
Miscellaneous Announcements: Greg Welch stated that he has a friend who is selling 2 Corvettes - 1 is a 62 for $27,000 and a 81 for $7,000 Roy Hoernke reported that we will be having 4 Community Service events in the month of January.

Clean Car Award: Larry Leard & Rex Wilhoite awarded this months winner to Ron Mathews.

Badge Drawing: Was won by Karan Anderson.

Corvette Trivia Drawing: Was won by John Kindell this month.

A motion to adjourn: Scott Mergele asked for a motion to adjourn which was made by Skip Kelley and seconded by Jan Tucker. The motion carried and passed. The meeting adjourned at 9:03 PM.
