The meeting was
called to order by President Skip Kelley at 7:31 PM in the Stallion
Mountain Golf Club Grill Room. There were 96 members and 8 guests present.
Skip Kelley started by stating a welcome to everyone here tonight and
that this was the last meeting for the 40th Anniversary year. Skip Kelley
showed us a derby car that he made in 1970, and that he won first place
for design and it was remarkably similar to a C3 T-top of the day. He
had brought it for the Toy Table . He reminded us again that this is
"your club" for a great car. Skip Kelley reported that Findlay
Chevrolet would again be out sponsor for the 2014 year. There will be
a new program this coming year, the referral cards are worth money in
your pocket. If you refer someone for a purchase of a new car/truck
you will receive $100.00 and $300.00 for the club on that said purchase.
They will also be giving the club $200.00 per month, continue with the
raffle materials and car shows.
Findlay Chevrolet: Doug Fleming stated that they are happy to
partner with us again for another year along with Slim Stevens as Service
Coordinator and Paul Patane as the Corvette Tech. Doug Fleming gave
special thanks to Ken Rees for his referrals by presenting him with
a Corvette Mug and a special thanks to Pat Russell by presenting him
with a Corvette Logo Pin . Slim Stevens came forward to state that this
month for a thank you Findlay would be offering a "free" diagnostic
check.
A motion to approve the November meeting minutes was made by Kathy
Clapp and seconded by Thayne Colvin. Motion carried and passed.
Treasurer's
Report: Connie Gentry stated that we still have money.
Birthday's were read by Jan Tucker.
Presidents Report: Skip Kelley started off by saying that we
were going to be in need of a new Webmaster in 2015. If you are interested
or thinking about this position to see him or Pat Russell. We would
like to have you start as an apprentice in January 2014 and work with
Pat Russell for the year. Last month we had Auto Cross, Cars & Coffee
and a Car Show. Skip Kelley told us that he will continue with the Cars
& Coffee series next year. We had a great time and great cookies
at the Cookie Exchange. He hoped that everyone brought a suitcase or
back pack tonight for the Suitcase Drive. Skip Kelley thanked those
who chaired any event this past year and that he appreciated you doing
this. Skip Kelley then stated a serious thank you, that it was great
being your president. A great need to meet you all and you meeting me.
Sorry if he upset someone, but again thank you.
Old Business: Skip Kelley stated that tonight was Election Night
and that anyone who was running for election could now come forward
to say a few words. Treasurer - Connie Gentry stated that she has done
accounting for 40 years. And that she was Treasurer from 2004-2006.
Director - Benita Klaizner stated she was President and Storekeeper,
she stated that LCVA will always be #1. Vice-President - Lin Hoernke
stated that she has been a member for 20 years, and has been on the
E-Board for almost all those 20 years. She will support the new President
and our club. Vice-President - Mike Groves stated that this is a social
run club. People want to see and hear these special cars - let's run
them. He want to continue with history and traditions. Let's make this
a fun club - a Corvette club. President - Scott Mergele stated that
he is a 10 year member and is ready to get busy for the club. Ken Rees,
Lanny Lowman and Sally McVane then handed out the ballots for the 2014
Election, and collected them when everyone finished voting. They will
report back when they have tallied the votes.
New Business:
Introduction of New and Prospective Members: Ellie Johnson stated
that she will have a complete number of members at the January General
Meeting with the new and renewed membership. Guests this month are:
Julie Wynne, Mark Wynne, Michele Cox, Dean Schmidt, Jack Jackson, Jay
Jackson, Alan Miller, Harriet Gagliano and K.C. Hunter. Joining tonight
and receiving his plaques is: Ted Arhontas. Proposed By Law Change for
the Reserve Funding. Lennard G. stated that the By Law change committee
is Denise Karpa and Dawn Gregorio and himself met and presented this
proposal to the Executive Board, which unanimously approved at this
past Monday's Board Meeting. This suggestion was to separate the budget
expenses into 3 categories - No Risk, Moderate Risk and High Risk :
1) The reserve shall be maintained at a minimum level equal to the greater
of $25,000.00 or 55% of the total expense portion of the annual operating
budget. This proposal will be posted on our Website and will be printed
in our NewsVetter in the January issue. We will be voting on this change
at our January General Meeting.
Committee Reports:
Storekeeper: Cindy Fuller reported that she will be having a Denim
jacket raffle - 1 men's and 1 woman's jacket, $2.00 per ticket, raffle
will be held at the end of this meeting. She then stated that we will
no longer be selling the denim jackets. The denim jacket will be replaced
with a soft shell, fitted, tailored and very warm jacket. It will be
selling for $65.00. Men's sizes go to 6X and woman's jackets to 4X
Sunshine: Sally McVane reported that Don Tomlin passed away sometime
last year and Dottie is in a rest home. Sally McVane read a thank you
card from Lanny and Janet Lowman for the flowers and support they received
during his treatment. Lanny Lowman is in remission now from throat cancer.
Racer's Edge: Lanny Lowman had trophies to hand out for the last
2 Racer's Edge event: 1st Place - Scott Mergele, 2nd Place - Jerry and
3rd Place - Ken Rees. The winners of the last Auto Cross and handed
out trophies were: 1st Place - Jeff Termuhlen, 2nd Place - Scott Mergele,
3rd Place - Cathy Wilson, 4th Place - Ken Rees and 5th Place - Jerry
Cline. Lanny Lowman stated that this was the last meeting as a Director
but that he will be running Racer's Edge next year. He then informed
us of the newest nickname for Jeff Termuhlen - Professor.
Doug Fleming came in with the missing bowling ball that he found in
the parking lot and handed it over to Skip Kelley.
Upcoming Events: Steve Tucker brought up Ken Rees to talk about
the Dyno Shoot-out from Saturday, 12/14. Ken Rees stated that this was
the 12th year and was held at the new Shelby Warehouse from 9:00 AM
- 1:00 PM Come for the shoot-out or just come to watch. Flyers are on
the tables with a map on the back to the new place, near Town Square.
40th Anniversary Photo, Skip Kelley reported this will be held on Saturday,
12/22 at Sunset Park at 10:00 AM. Carl Hastings came up to state that
tonight was the Suitcase Drive for Child Haven. So far he has counted
30-40 suitcases collected. Skip Kelley reported that the next Cars &
Coffee will be held on Saturday, 1/4. Skip Kelley then reported that
the President's Run will be held on Friday & Saturday ,2/15-16.
We will be traveling to Beatty, going to tour Scotty's Castle, drive
through Artist Pallet, have an evening of music, dancing and a BBQ dinner.
Stay overnight in Beatty, then travel Saturday to Goodsprings to the
Pioneer Salon to view the Centennial Wall, where we have a plaque, stay
and have a drink and some thing to eat if you would like. It will be
approx. $40.00 per person plus hotel. Benita Klaizner came up to tell
us of the Wine & Canvas she is chairing on 1/15 at 6:00 PM. It will
be $35.00 per painter which includes a 16x20 canvas, all painting supplies.
This will be held at the Jim & Debra Leatham home. BYOB and pot
luck snacks. Cindy Fuller reported that the Awards Banquet is Saturday,
1/25. Come out for a great time, dancing, awards and surprises. $45.00
per member and $50.00 non-member. Connie Gentry report on the Laps for
Charity that is being held on Sunday, 1/26 at the Las Vegas Speedway.
3 laps for $30.00. Meet at the old Shelby Warehouse parking lot at 8:15
AM. After our racing time, Moe's Race Day Cafe will be opening for us
to serve breakfast/lunch. Register on line or through Connie Gentry.
This is a Community Service event. Sally McVane came up to tell us of
the Super Bowl Party on 2/2, 2:30 PM at their home. This will also be
a Community Service event for the Street Teens. $5.00 for members and
$7.00 non-members. There will be games of 50/50 and board games. It
is BYOB.
Miscellaneous Announcements: Roy Hoernke reported that a member
did not achieve his 200 mph goal. Gary Moore only hit 199.9. Jerry Lawrence
stated that his band will be performing at the South Point on the afternoon
of 1/9 at 2:00 PM. Jim Gregorio stated that he had some left over plates
from the Cookie Exchange, they are out on the front table. Mike Borders
reported that the Mohave Mile will be suspended for 1 year due to cost
at the airport. Mike Borders also stated that he would like to chair
a Shop Day, BBQ at a later date next year. Geno Montoya has a set of
rims for sale at $850.00 for all 4. They are for a 2007 C6, brand new.
Mike Groves stated that he and Amy Groves would like to continue the
Sin City Suppers next year on Friday's and change the name to "LVCA
Date Night" starting in February. Benita Klaizner reported that
this Saturday, 12/14 at 5:00 PM, Town Center Lounge #1 will be having
a charity auction and toy drive for Shade Tree & at risk Eliminatory
Schools.
Clean Car Award: Larry Leard & Willy Salzmann, Jr. awarded
this months winner to Jeff Termuhlen.
Badge Drawing: Was not won this month.
Ken Ackeret took this time to thank Kathy Clapp and Holley Holran for
selling the raffle tickets this year.
50/50 Drawing: Won by Jan Tucker
Corvette Trivia Drawing: Was won by Jim Gregorio this month.
Cindy Fuller came up to have the denim jacket raffle. The men's winner
was Victor Rodriguez, Sr. and the woman's winner was Terry Rees.
Skip Kelley read the results of the elections as follows: Director -
Benita Klaizner, Treasurer - Connie Gentry, Secretary - Brenda Cavallo,
Vice-President - Lin Hoernke and President - Scott Mergele.
A motion to adjourn: As his first act as President, Scott Mergele
asked for a motion to adjourn which was made by Kathy Clapp and seconded
by Jeff Blue. The motion carried and passed. The meeting adjourned at
9:35 PM.
