General Membership Meeting - November 14, 2013 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Skip Kelley at 7:30 PM in the Stallion Mountain Golf Club Grill Room. There were 90 members and 9 guests present.

Skip Kelley started by stating a welcome to everyone here tonight. Skip Kelley told us "this is your club, not mine". I encourage you to run for offices. If you are unable to make it to the December's meeting for the elections, absentee ballots will be available. There is cool stuff on the Toy Table tonight, be sure to go by and take a look. Lots of events, fun stuff to do, meet people and learn new stuff. Lots of stuff to do with the awesome car.

Findlay Chevrolet: Slim started off with a big "thank you" for our support of Findlay by buying cars, parts and service. Slim stated that he is backing us to stay with Findlay. Friday the 23rd of November is Slims birthday, so he is offering free oil changes, just come in and see him.

Skip Kelley asked everyone to be come see him or shoot him an email with your feed back on the buffet dinner tonight.
A motion to approve the October meeting minutes was made by Bob O'Brien and seconded by Sharron Grodzinsky. Motion carried and passed.

Treasurer's Report: Skip Kelley told us that we were good, we have money. Skip Kelley stated that there is a motion to make a change on how we formulate the Reserve Account in the By-Laws. Lennard Grodzinsky has volunteered to Chair this committee.

Birthday's were read by Benita Klaizner.

Presidents Report:
Skip Kelley started off by saying that we were going to be in need of a new Webmaster in 2015. If you are interested or thinking about this position to see him or Pat Russell. We would like to have you start as an apprentice in January 2014 and work with Pat Russell for the year. Skip Kelley told us of the first Garage Gathering that was held at his house last month and that he appreciated everyone who came. Had a great time and learned some new things. He would like to have more of these, so if you have a big garage and would be interested in hosting this, please come forward or see Steve Tucker for your events package. We had the last Sin City Supper for this year. Mike & Amy Grove have indicated that they would be interested in doing this again next year. We had our 40th Anniversary party last month and we had a great time. We started off with a Rally, followed by a bar-be-que lunch, then concluding with a program going down memory lane with past presidents. We went to Beatty and were a part of their Beatty Days celebration - parade, jail and fun. Had a great time and met new people. Skip Kelley and Victor Rodriguez, Jr. attended SEMA this year. They both said it was a real experience. There were parts there that are already aftermarket performance parts for the 2014 Corvette Stingray. We had our Auto Cross & Mohave Mile this past month. We will hear more about those later. We participated in the Vegas Valley Vettes Turkey Shoot the beginning of this month. Skip Kelley informed us that he is planning a 40th Anniversary Photo sometime in December. More information and details to come later. Skip Kelley then thanked everyone who has stepped up to hold events.

Skip Kelley introduced our special guests tonight: Sandy Fare and her daughter Cheryl Hunt. Jim Fare was the 2rd President of LVCA. She is now living in Texas and still in a Corvette Club there, she has a 2001. Her daughter Cheryl Hunt has a 1984 and a 2013. She told us some stories from the past and stated that is a wonderful feeling of owning a Corvette. Skip Kelley presented them with a 40th Anniversary Pin.

Old Business: No old business

New Business: Introduction of New and Prospective Members: Ellie Johnson stated that we have 207 members. Ellie Johnson then read the names of members who will be getting their yearly pins this year and to remind them to come to the Banquet to receive their pins. Guests this month are: Michele Cox, Dean Schmidt, Jack Jackson, Jay Jackson, Cheryl Hunt, Sandy Fare, Tom Biles, Michael O'Sullivan and Ted Arhontas. Joining tonight and receiving the plaques are: Bill Henderson, Gay Henderson, Julie Termuhlen and Eric Montis. Ken Rees came up to open the floor for nominations for the 2014 Officers. He reminded us that you can nominate yourself or you can nominate someone else. The floor was opened and the final nominations are: Director - Benita Klaizner & Victor Rodriguez, Jr.; Treasurer - Connie Gentry; Secretary - Brenda Cavallo; Vice-President - Mike Groves & Lin Hoernke and for President - Scott Mergele. Motion was made to close the nominations by Roy Hoernke and seconded by Bob O'Brien. Motion was voted on and passed by a majority of members present. Ken Rees then reminded us again that if you are not going to be at the December meeting to let our Secretary Brenda Cavallo know and she will send you out an Absentee Ballot.

Committee Reports:

Dyno Shoot-out: Ken Rees told us of the Dyno Shoot-Out that is coming up on December 14th at the Shelby Garage. It is $50.00, you get 2 pulls. He also said that everyone is welcome to come out and watch.

Mohave Mile & Magnum: Mike Borders came up to tell us of the special time they all had at the Mohave Mile and Magnum. He handed out some plaques for the winners: Scott Mergele, Ray Byrom. Not present but are winners were Pati Ackeret and Jerry Cline. Then Mike Borders gave out a very special award plaque and T-Shirt to Roy Hoernke for joining the 200 MPH Club. Ken Rees came up and asked Scott Mergele & Jim Weeks, who also belong to the 200 MPH Club to present the plaque to Roy Hoernke.

Racer's Edge: Cathy Wilson came up to tell all new members of the Racer's Edge program and the Competitive Racing programs. She then handed out trophies from the Silver State Challenge Classic to Ken Rees, Scott Mergele and herself.

Storekeeper: Cindy Fuller opened with a "Happy Holidays" to everyone. She then reported that she will be having a Denim jacket raffle: $2.00 per ticket, raffle will be held at the December meeting. She then stated that we will no longer be selling the denim jackets. Cindy Fuller then had Dawn Gregorio model the new jacket that the store will be selling. It is a soft shell, fitted, tailored and very warm jacket. It will be selling for $65.00

Upcoming Events:
Steve Tucker spoke that events come from the club, your ideas. He then brought up Scott Mergele to tell us of the Findlay Thanksgiving Car Show this Saturday. All cars are welcome, this is a Community Service for each member who attends, $5.00 per person, all monies going to the Burn Foundation. Meet out front at 7 AM so that we can go in together and park as a club. Skip Kelley spoke on Cars & Coffee Saturday December 7th. Come be with people who like cars and meet new people. Dawn Gregorio came forward and told us of the upcoming Cookie Exchange on Sunday, Dec. 8th at their home. Bring 3 dozen cookies to exchange. $5.00 person. Carl Hasting informed us that at the December meeting he will be hosting the Suitcase Drive for Child Haven. Bring a slightly used suitcase or backpack. You will also receive a Community Service point for participating. Vickie Colvin informed us of the Awards Banquet being held this coming January 25th. There is a RSVP cards box on the member table in the front tonight and will be there again at the December meeting. She also stated that 1/4/14 will be the last day for reservations. So dress up, dance, and have a great time.

Miscellaneous Announcements: Skip Kelley told us that his band, Alter'd Ego will be playing this Saturday night, 7 PM, at the Railhead in Boulder Station. Rex Wilhoite attended the National Governor Meeting in St. Louis. They have asked about our interest in LVCA hosting the 2016 Convention. Its a lot of work but we will talk more on this at a later date. He also showed us the Build Out Sheet that he ordered for his car and that they are available to order on line for $20.00 from the Corvette Nation Museum website. They also have the Window Price Sticker for $20.00. Rex Wilhoite stated that he also has raffle tickets for the 2014 new car give-away, the cost is $10.00 per ticket or $25.00 for 3 tickets. Pete Shevlin came to tell us that his Kiwanis Club will be hosting a tour of the Goldstrom Private Auto Museum this Saturday evening for various charities like The Salvation Army. There are 5 full warehouses of race cars, muscle cars, motorcycles, etc. Terry Rees came forward and stated that Thanksgiving was coming up soon and that we should all give thanks for our nation and all those who have served for our country. She asked that all who have served in the military to stand so that we can acknowledge them and give out thanks. Roy Hoernke then gave a special thank you and a photo plaque to Jim Gregorio for the service and upkeep that he has given his Vet. Victor Rodriguez, Jr. stated that he attended the SEMA Convention, they had 6 - C7's out showing their speed. Would very much like to continue this next year. Randy Watson came and told us he has a 37' RV, 5th wheel, toy hauler, with a 10' garage for $15,000.00 and he also has a 24', 2014 enclosed car trailer for $7,000.00. Benita Klaizner read an email she received from Cindy Orrico stating that she has Stage 4 Esophageal Cancer. She will be starting chemo in 2 weeks and she is accepting prayers.

Clean Car Award: Larry Leard & Rex Wilhoite awarded this months winner to Rudy Blum.

Badge Drawing: Winner this month was Bob Leis.

50/50 Drawing: Won by Ken DePiero

Corvette Trivia Drawing: Was won by Steve Tucker this month.

A motion to adjourn: A motion to adjourn was made by Cathy Wilson and seconded by Carl Hastings. The motion carried and passed. The meeting adjourned at 9:05 PM.
