The meeting was
called to order by President Skip Kelley at 7:30 PM in the Stallion
Mountain Golf Club Grill Room. There were 68 members and 6 guests present.
Skip Kelley started by stating a welcome to everyone here tonight. Skip
Kelley told us "this is your club, not mine. Think what you want
to do and let's do it". He also mentioned that next month we will
be accepting nominations for next years Board positions. If you will
not be able to be present for the December General Meeting, please get
in touch with our Secretary, Brenda Cavallo, for your absentee ballot.
Skip Kelley showed us his 25th Anniversary Patch that he has brought
tonight to place on the Toy Table. It's remarkable that 35 years have
gone by since then, for the 60th Anniversary of the Corvette. He reminded
us again of the great events that have come and gone, but if there is
something you want to do - trips, shows, runs - let's do it. There was
some talk at the car show this past week-end of doing a garage day;
road trips - like maybe to Utah Motor Sports; National Corvette Caravan.
All of these will need a chairperson, step up and let's do it.
Findlay Chevrolet: Doug Fleming thanked everyone for the Corvette
Roulette. He told us that on Monday Findlay's received 3 new 2014 Stingrays.
But he did notice that a new 2014 Torch Red on one is here tonight which
belongs to one of our members. Doug Fleming then introduced Paul - Certified
Corvette Tech and Slim - Service Writer. Please stop by and say hi.
Paul thanked everyone that participated in the car show. Slim thanked
us also and that it was a pleasure, and how much they appreciate us.
Slim also told us that he was a member back in 1973. He then offered
a final thank you for our help, participation and our business.
Skip Kelley then introduced that new General Manager of Stallion Mountain,
Rose Rayney. She stated that she came from Victorville, CA where she
worked with the Corvette club there. She then asked about service, which
everyone replied good. Rose Rayney then told us that the most ordered
food by us was the Chicken Caesar Salad. She offered a suggestion that
next month we try a buffet of - Caesar salad, pasta, bread - with a
cost of $10.00 Members objected, but she stated that she was going to
try it at the November General Meeting.
A motion to approve the September meeting minutes was made by
Bob O'Brien and seconded by Kathy Clapp. Motion carried and passed.
Treasurer's
Report: Skip Kelley told us that we were good, we have money.
Birthday's were read by Skip Kelley.
Presidents Report: Skip Kelley stated that we had a great September.
We had Peter Brock as a special speaker, Racer's Edge, Silver State
and Serenades of Life, for a few events. He thanked everyone who participated.
Sin City Supper had 37 participate at Our Family Cafe. Barrett-Jackson,
had a great time, rode in a C7 - great ride. Skip Kelley stated that
he would like to get a 40th Anniversary Club picture. He will plan an
event that will include this picture. Auto Cross this past month, where
Skip Kelley informed us that he broke his car. He also informed us that
we will be needing a new Webmaster, that Pat Russell is giving up this
position starting 2015. If you are interested please see Pat Russell
so that next year you can be his apprentice. Skip Kelley informed us
that after the September General Meeting there were 3 unpaid dinner
tickets. The Executive Board voted and authorized payment for these
meals - one time only. If you know who you are, you can write a check
to LCVA to cover your share. He then informed us that the new Torch
Red 2014 Sting Ray was purchased by Bill & Gay Henderson. Be prepared
because there are great things coming up for our club.
Old Business: Ken Rees reminded us again that elections are coming
up and that next month, November, we will be accepting nomination from
the floor. So far we have the following who have thrown their names
in the hat: Scott Mergele - President, Mike Groves - Vice President
and Connie Gentry - Treasurer. He also told us that if there is anyone
who you would like to see in any position, you are free to nominate
someone. Ken Rees stated also that if you need an absentee ballot to
see our Secretary.
New Business: Introduction of New and Prospective Members: Ellie
Johnson stated that we have 204 members, with 145 renewals already paid.
She has new phone list at the table. Guests this month are: Bill McCord,
Ernie Cordova, Toni Hein, Ken Gray, Jay Veneaux, Karen Salk. Joining
tonight are Eric Montis, Bill & Gay Henderson. Bob Hulshouser introduced
Veronica Huening from St. Judes Ranch for Children. LVCA presented
her with a check in the amount of $1,500.00 from the Corvette Roulette
Car Show. Standing Rules motion was made by Skip Kelly to add
an Article (i) in Section 4 to read "No LVCA Event shall have an
Open Bar". Skip Kelley then read the rules for changing or adding
to the Standing Rules from the By-Laws. Dennis Ledwon - 1st, Bob Hulshouser
- 2nd. Skip Kelley then opened the floor for discussion. Ken Ackeret
stated that the 2013 Banquet is open bar, as a signed package for $70.00
per person. Can we put a date that past events or already signed contracts
will not be governed by this addition. Skip Kelley informed Kan Ackeret
that would only cover any new or upcoming contracts. Rex Wilhoite said
that there have been no issues in the 15 years he has been a member.
We have liability insurance for this kind of things. Skip Kelley stated
that perception is reality - lawyers love insurance. Jim Gentry asked
if the club had enough monies and insurance to cover this type of lawsuits?
Skip Kelley informed him that we do. Skip Kelley then stated that you
can buy all the drinks you want, Just not the club buying. Larry Leard
told that he is a tea totaler and he doesn't like buying for others.
He is however a smoker, you can buy him a carton which will not affect
his ability, like booze, to drive a car. Skip Kelley then asked for
any more questions, when no member replied, he then called for a vote,
by show of hands. He reminded everyone in the room that this vote was
for members only. The vote was: accepting addition: 36, opposed addition:
25. Motion carried, pased as read and posted as read.
Committee Reports:
Dyno Shoot-out: Ken Rees informed us that the upcoming Dyno Shoot-out
will be Saturday, 12/14 at the Shelby Garage. They take 5 cars an hour
with 2 pulls. Cost is $50.00 Feel free to just come and watch. All day
event with coffee & juice in the morning, hamburgers & hot dogs
prepared by Shelby for lunch.
Storekeeper: Cindy Fuller stated that we are starting to have
cooler weather and football season is here. The store carries long sleeve
denim shirts, jackets and bling shirts. She then showed articles for
sale: duffel bags - $15.00, travel mug - $10.00 and decals for $1.00
Cindy Fuller also informed us that she still have 40th Anniversary shirt
available. She then told us that she will be available to run the store
next year.
Sunshine: Sally McVane reported that Craig Carrell is cancer
free for 2 years now. He was just tested on 9/22. Dennis & Nancy
Ledwon will be celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary by having
a year of activities, which will be starting with a cruise in November.
Jim and Janice Gregorius will be celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary
on 11/16. Jim is recovering from back surgery. Sally & Bob McVane
are expecting their 4th great grandchild in March 2015.
Upcoming Events: Skip Kelley asked Debra Leatham and Ken Ackeret
to come up and tell us about the 40th Anniversary Event. Debra Leatham
informed us that entry forms are on the tables. We need a count for
the restaurant for the food and we need a number of participants for
the Rally. Ken Ackeret asked for a show of hand who will be attending
the Rally which will be starting at Stallion Mountain. He needs a number
for the Rally so they know how many booklets to make which has the whole
route map and educational facts in it also. There will also be a Poker
Run, Scrabble Spell Run. He then gave Victor Rodriguez, Jr. a hand drawing
that he made for the Vetter in 1983 that was found in the archives (a
copy was made for the club to keep). They also reminded us that you
can come dressed as the 70's, there will be trophies handed out for
these costumes. Mike Groves came up for the next Sin City Supper on
Thursday, 10/24 at Chevy's in Henderson. We will be dining on the patio
with 15% discount. We will have security watched parking. This will
be the last one for the year. Also Mike Groves informed us that Channel
13 will be taking pictures of the restaurant and of us along with our
Corvettes. Skip Kelley informed us the next Cars & Coffee is Saturday,
11/9 at 8:00 AM. Come on out, it's a great way to meet people. Joanne
Maioli told us of the Beatty Days Parade she and her husband are chairing
on Saturday 10/26. Meet at the Pauite Smoke Shop at 7:00 AM to caravan
to Beatty. After the parade there are shops and all the cars to see.
Come dressed in Halloween costumes and dress your cars up also. Pat
Russell introduced Bill McCord from Vegas Valley Vettes to talk about
the 2nd Annual Turkey Shoot & Car Show on Saturday 11/9, 9 AM -
3 PM This will be held at the Clark County Shooting Range. Turkey Shoot
is $5.00 per shot, Car Show is $25.00 (which includes 1 free shot).
All profits will go to the Homeless Veterans. Pat Russell said to sign
the participant sheet so that you can get credit for this event which
is Community Service. Mike Groves came back up to inform us of the Veterans
Day Parade that he is chairing on Monday, 11/11 at 10 AM, down 4th Street.
So far he has 40 persons with 3 Reserve. He showed us the banner that
he had made up for the event to be carried by the ROTC unit from El
Dorado High School. He is reaching out to all Vette owners and other

Also if you have a convertible and will be coming single, he will have
a Veteran ride along with you. There is no limit of participants. Dawn
Gregorio came up to tell us about the Cookie Exchange on Saturday, 12/8
Bring 3 dozen cookies to exchange. BYOB, water and soda will be provided
along with chili and soup.
Miscellaneous Announcements: Carl Hastings handed out a flyer for
the Suitcase Drive this year at the December General Meeting. Bring
slightly used suitcases, backpacks, etc. Jim Gregorio told us that 10/26-27
are track days at Spring Mountain, for more information see him after
the meeting. Will Salzmann told us that he has a 96 Collectors Edition,
silver Corvette for sale. It is on our website for more information,
it is a fast car. Jerry Lawrence informed us that Henderson Chevrolet
and the Cruising Assoc. will be hosting a car show on Friday, 10/18
at 6 PM - 8 PM. Jerry Lawrence and his band will be playing, and they've
invited Skip Kelley. There will also be a free bar-be-que. Sally McVane
told us as a FYI that in December she will be collecting personal items
for Street Teens. Cindy Fuller announced that the Black Jack Club, BJ's
Bar and Nevada Bar will be hosting a 21 Fun Poker Run. Each hand is
$10.00 - 50% goes to the Black Jack Club and 50% goes for the prizes.
Mel Jacobson read the "10 Corvette Commandments" written by
a Simi Valley, CA Club member. Bill Henderson came forward to tell us
of the upcoming Pismo Beach Car Show, Friday - Sunday, June 14-16, 2014.
