General Membership Meeting - September 12, 2013 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Skip Kelley at 7:35 PM in the Stallion Mountain Golf Club Grill Room. There were 13 guests present.

Skip Kelley started by stating a welcome to everyone here tonight. Skip Kelley told us that at Cars & Coffee he met Peter Brock. This is the man who was one of the original designers, 1957, for the Stingray. He is here tonight at our General Meeting and we will be speaking on Corvettes and his new book. "This is your Club" let's do something Skip K. stated. Anything is possible, dinner, movies, car shows, etc. Skip Kelley also stated that Elections are coming up, get involved, keep things going. We are looking for someone to Chair a Halloween & New Year's Eve Parties. Super Run is coming up this month. would be nice to have a presence.

Findlay Chevrolet:
Doug Fleming stated that they had sent 2 personnel from the dealership to Spring Mountain Race Track for training on the 2014 C7. Doug Fleming presented a real replica of the new 2014 C7 Stingray model car to Skip Kelley as thanks for the great job he is doing. Doug Fleming introduced Slim and Paul from Findlay. Slim stated that he is extending the double discount for service - now 20% off - see Slim for your appointment, Paul does the work. Slim also stated that he had brought memorabilia from 1973 with him, stop by his table to take a look.

A motion to approve the August meeting minutes was made by Carl Corbett and seconded by Nita Russell. Motion carried and passed.

Treasurer's Report: Connie Gentry reported that our taxes have been completed and that we owe $429.00 which she will get in the mail. Tax preparation was $375.00, and that we are still doing good.

Birthday's
were read by Welcome Committee Member Jan Tucker.

Presidents Report: Skip Kelley thanked everyone who has stepped up to Chair events. Skip Kelley then reminded us that Elections are coming up and to run for office. He also stated that there are volunteer positions available also.

Old Business: None

New Business: Introduction of New and Prospective Members: Ellie Johnson first thanked Lin Hoernke for taking over for her while she was on vacation. She then reported we have 198 members. Ellie Johnson then reminded us that 2014 Dues were due and all notices have been sent out. Dues are due on 10/15, you can give them to her tonight, mail them or bring to next months General Meeting. Guests attending were: Jerry Lawrence, Paul Patane, Mel Jacobson, Lou Winget, Dean Schmidt, Eric Montis, Mike Rees, Julie Termuhlen, Patti Hoffman, Paul Hoffman, Ernie Cordova, Bill Henderson, Gay Henderson, Stephen Hawthorne and Steven Evans. Election Committee: Ken Rees stated that if you are interested or know that you want to run please see any of the Directors, Lanny Lowman, Benita Klaizner, himself or President Skip Kelley. If you don't want to run for a Board Position, Ken Rees stated that there are a number of volunteer positions that are available also. Special Guest Peter Brock thanked us for inviting him tonight. Peter Brock spoke on his years at Chevrolet, starting when he was just 19 years old and that year the Corvette was going to be dropped from the Chevrolet line up. He then worked with Bill Mitchell, who is responsible for bringing back the Corvette. His book, Corvette Sting Ray, is here tonight for purchase. Skip Kelley presented a Concept Cars Poster from our "60 for 60" event to Peter Brock from LVCA.

Committee Reports:

Racer's Edge: Cathy Wilson presented trophies to the following individual: Ken Rees - 2nd Place NORC - May 19th; Pati Ackeret - 3rd Place Drags - June 29th; Cathy Wilson - 1st Place Autocross - Aug. 17th. Cathy Wilson stated that they have had 6 events and 6 more to go. One event is this week-end, Silver Classis Challenge. Total events for 2013 is 13. You can still join Racer's Edge and win. Best 6 events count for end of year award.

Storekeeper: Cindy Fuller stated that we are starting to have cooler weather and Christmas is right around the corner. For this winter the store carries long sleeve denim shirts, and jackets. They even have bling stuff. She then showed articles for sale: duffel bags - $15.00, travel mug - $10.00 and decals for $1.00

Sunshine: Sally McVane reported that Jeff & Julie got married on Aug. 3rd. Mike Rees is here visiting his parents. He just received his flying wings last Friday, and he is on his way to Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota where he will be flying the Reaper. Pat & Nita Russell will be celebrating their 45th Wedding Anniversary on Sept. 21st. Gary Lowers had surgery on his rotary cup and is doing well.

Upcoming Events: Steve Tucker asked Skip Kelley to come up and tell us about Serenade of life Concert for Nathan Adelson Hospice, 9/21. 14 seats still available @ $50.00 for floor seating. Skip Kelley then spoke on Sin City Supper on Wednesday, 9/25 at Our Families Country Kitchen. Bob Hulshouser then came up and spoke on Corvette Roulette Findlay Corvette Car Show on Saturday, 10/5. Parking begins at 8 AM, free food, music, raffles, so far over $1,000.00 in raffle prizes. $10.00 per car. Benita Klaizner is asking for private donors or business to offer raffle prizes. Any prize donated worth over $100.00 will receive a certificate and plaque from Findlay. All proceeds go to our charity, St. Jude's with a In-Kind Certificate. Benita Klaizner has registration forms here tonight if you would like to pre-register. This car show is open to all Corvettes. Scott Mergele came up and informed us that the Mojave Mile will be 10/12 & 13. There will both the mile and the mile & 1/2 races this year. Kathy Clapp and Debra Leatham came up and informed us of the 40th Anniversary Event on Saturday, 10/19 There will be Gimmick - Poker - Game Rally. All 3 will run at the same time. There will be 20 different places for the Rally and will run about 2 hours. The Rally will end at Calico Jacks for a BBQ dinner of hamburgers and hot dogs. Past Presidents will be attending also. There will also be a costume contest of best costume from the 70's. Cost is $10.00 per person.

Miscellaneous Announcements: Skip Kelley told us that his band "Altered Ego" will be playing on Saturday, 9/28 at the Boulder Station Rail Head. Bob Lista came up to say goodbye, he is moving to Florida. Joel Thies told us that Gaudin Ford is putting on a Car Show Saturday, 9/21, free, plus you will receive 2 tickets to Barrett-Jackson Auction, 9/26-28.

Clean Car Award: Carl Hastings, standing in for Larry Leard this month, presented the plaque to this months winner - Connie Gentry

Badge Drawing: Was not won this month.

50/50 Drawing: Won by Jerry Lawrence

Corvette Trivia Drawing: Presented by Peter Brock and won by John Fuller.

A motion to adjourn: A motion to adjourn was made by Cathy Wilson and seconded by Ken Rees. The motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 8:51 PM.
