The meeting was
called to order by President Skip Kelley at 7:30 PM in the Stallion
Mountain Golf Club Grill Room. There were 9 guests present.
Skip Kelley started
by stating a welcome to everyone here tonight. Skip K. also stated that
fall was a great time for car events. Think about why you joined....if
there's something that you would like to do - do it here. Jim Weeks
brought pictures of the car, a C4, that 22 club members built. Then
it was driven by club members at Silver State, Autocrosses, and for
Drag Racing. Skip K. mentioned that a good way for our club to be seen
is by attending other events like the Super Run coming up in September.
Maybe even going for 1 day or an afternoon. We just need someone to
Chair this event. Skip K. told us that at Cars & Coffee he met Peter
Brock. This is the man who was one of the original designers, 1957,
for the Stingray. He will be present next month at our General Meeting
talking on Corvettes and his new book.
Findlay Chevrolet: Skip Kelley introduced Slim and Paul from
Findlay's. Skip K. told us that Paul was a proud new owner of a 2009
Corvette. Slim thanked us greatly for the July receipts at Findlay's
from LVCA members. Since there was such great response, Slim is extending
the double discount for service - now 20% off - see Slim for your appointment,
Paul does the work. Skip K. presented to the club the plaque from the
Findlay Car Show for Most Club Participation. Donna Mergele accepted
the plaque on behalf of Scott Mergele.
A motion to approve the July meeting minutes was made by Jan
Tucker and seconded by Carl Corbett. Motion carried and passed.
Treasurer’s
Report: Connie Gentry reported that we are doing great. Connie G.
stated that a full financial report is available on the website.
Presidents Report: Skip Kelley reported that we are cruising
along, July was a little slimmer than some months but then again it
is summer time. Skip K. did remind us that we have some great events
coming up, like the 40th Anniversary event. Plan on attending these
events, all details will be coming soon.
Old Business: None
New Business: Introduction of New and Prospective Members:
Lin Hoernke, filling in for Ellie Johnson who is on vacation, reported
we have 197 members. Guests attending were: Jerry Lawrence, Michele
Cox, Paul Pastane, Mel Jacobson, Chris C. Schuller, Eric Winston, Grae
Haldeman, Elliott Simpson and Ron Schoelviopf. Lin H. reminded us that
our yearly dues are coming up. She will be mailing these out of Sept.
1st and are due Oct. 1st. Election Committee: Ken Rees stated
that elections are coming up for the 2014 year. If you are interested
or know that you want to run please see any of the Directors, Lanny
Lowman, Benita Klaizner, himself or President Skip Kelley. If you don't
want to run for a Board Position, Ken R. stated that there are a number
of volunteer positions that are available also. Skip K. brought Victor
Rodriguez, Jr. up to talk about attending SEMA. Victor R. stated
that he would like to see if we could get tickets as "Media",
this type of entrance is free. We will need for publication participation:
writing a column on cars, tips, events; submitting photos, and the such.
SEMA is 11/5-8/13, 9-5 PM. If your interested in attending you will
need to get your information into the Vetter for August & September
issues. Please see Victor R. after the meeting if you are interested
in attending so he can get a count of people.
Committee Reports:
Drag Racing/Racer's Edge: Ken Rees told us of the up coming Aug.
17th Autocross - Aug. 24th Drag Race. This will be the last Drag Race
of the season.
Storekeeper: Cindy Fuller started off by saying it was going
to start being cold soon. She then showed us the Levi jacket for men
and a long sleeve light weight denim shirt for woman. Cindy F. also
stated that she still has some 40th Anniversary t-shirts. If you placed
an order for the Anniversary shirt, she has them tonight. Stop by and
see other items that she has available.
Sunshine: Sally McVane reported that Bob & Ingrid O'Brien
went to the NCCC Convention in Bowling Green. There Bob O. got 1st Place,
in his class, for matching time; Ingrid O. received 3rd Place, in her
class, for matching time; and Bob O. received Over All for Best Time.
Frank Knewll, a prospective new member, spent 7 hours in the emergency
room with walking pneumonia. Sally M. then read a letter she received
from Herbie Hubcap, he is missing in action.
Upcoming Events: Steve Tucker asked Connie Gentry to come up
to fill us in on her Mt. Charleston Runaway. Connie G. stated
that we would meet at the Sante Fe at 9:30 AM on Saturday, 8/10. Lunch
at the lodge will be $17.00 per person, this includes tip. Connie G.
also stated that this is a Community Service event for St. Jude's at
$5.00 per person. Amy Groves came up to tell us about Sin City Supper
this month at Lola's, New Orlean's style food at 6:00 PM. Skip Kelley
came up and told us that the next Cars & Coffee will be Saturday,
9/7 at 7 - 10 AM. Pat Russell came up to tell us that the Silver
State Race is coming up on 9/12-15. There are 24 members volunteering
their help and many of them are also racing. . Skip K. came back up
to tell us about "Serenades of Life" - Doctors in Concert
at the Smith's Center on 9/21, Saturday night, 7 PM. Tickets are $50.00
per person, which is seating on the main floor. This concert is a fund
raiser for Nathan Adelson Hospice. Steve. T. then invited Victor Rodriguez
Jr. to come up and tell us about Drive-In Movie Night. Victor
R. stated movie night would be 9/28 with the movie being "Rush".
He told us that he would have a flyer at next months General Meeting.
Steve. T. brought up Bob Hulshouser. Bob H. informed us on the Corvette
Roulette Findlay Corvette Car Show, 10/5, Saturday, 9-2 PM All judging
will be "people's choice". This is also a Community Service
for all members participating (you must be present), going to St. Jude's.
Cost is $10.00 per car, and our goal this year is 100 cars.
Miscellaneous Announcements: Denise Karpa came up tell us that
the Tuacahn Run raised $220.00 for St. Jude's. Denise K. then stated
that she would no longer chair this event after many years, and that
she would be handing her baton on to someone else. Bonnie Corbett came
up to tell the folks that are going on the Monterey trip to please wear
their club shirts. Jim Weeks stated that he is in need of a navigator
for Silver State. Frank Caroll showed us that he is selling a C5 Window
Valet for $50.00. Skip Kelley came up to announce that Luanne Montoya
won the "Ball Drop" from the Henry's Place Gold Tournament
for $1,000.00 Bob McVane told us that his friend is finished with his
total re-do of his 96 C4. Completely redone inside and out. His friend
is asking $15,000.00 OBO, if interested call Odie, 279-0805. Jim Gregorio
stated that the Porsche Club was having a Track Day at Spring Mountain
Race Track on 9/14-15. Contact Jim G. for more information. Everyone
is welcome. Roy Hoernke came up to thank Amy & Mike Groves for the
Sin City Suppers. Roy H. then read the history of the Peanut Can / Hubcap.
Following Roy H., Lin Hoernke came up to read a letter that she received
from Lincoln TC (Tin Can), a cousin of Herbie Hubcap. Lincoln TC would
like to replace his cousin in our club or until Herbie comes back. Lin
H. asked the club if they thought we should accept this offer and the
club responded by cheering in favor. Lin H. then presented Ron Petersen
with the new Lincoln TC, for he was the last person who had Herbie Hubcap.
Clean Car Award: Carl Hastings, standing in for Larry Leard this
month, presented the plaque to this month's winner - Ken Kroeger
Badge Drawing: Was not won this month.
50/50 Drawing: Won by Jim Gregorio
Corvette Trivia Drawing: Presented by Darrell Wood and won by
Carl Corbett.
A motion to adjourn: A motion to adjourn was made by Terry Rees
and seconded by Sharron Grodzinsky. The motion carried. The meeting
adjourned at 8:53 PM.
