General Membership Meeting - July 11, 2013 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Skip Kelley at 7:31 PM in the Stallion Mountain Golf Club Grill Room. There were 5 guests present.

Skip Kelley started off by welcoming everyone here tonight. Skip Kelley reminded us that we're half way through our 40th year. Skip also reminded us that this is "our club" and we are looking for someone to Chair a Halloween and New Years Eve Parties. To see Steve Tucker, Event Coordinator for your Events Package.

Findlay Chevrolet: Skip Kelley introduced Slim and Paul from Findlay's. Slim thanked us and that they were proud to be our sponsor. Slim stated that, this month only, he would double his discount for service. You must see Slim first. Slim also stated that he has a customer who is selling his 84, SS Monte Carlo, see Slim for more information.

A motion to approve the June meeting minutes was made by Scott Mergele and seconded by Sharon Grodzinsky. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report: Connie Gentry reported that we are looking good. Connie G. stated that she had the Quarterly Audit by the President & Vice President, their report showed we are right on line. Connie G. stated that a full financial report is available on the website.

Presidents Report: Skip Kelley reported that June was packed with races, 60 for 60 which was bloody hot but that many other clubs participated and were present. Skip K. also stated that we drive the coolest car and he loves the history of the Corvette, "its not where you're from, its where your going". Get involved, remember why your here.

Old Business: None

New Business: Introduction of New and Prospective Members: Lin Hoernke, filling in for Ellie Johnson who is on vacation, reported we have 197 members. Guests attending were: Will White, BJ White, Dan Banks, Linda Ingram and Brandon Crombie. Election Committee: Lanny Lowman spoke on the positions of Director & Event Coordinator. Lanny L. stated that the club runs on participation. He encourages everyone to run for office or participate on this Executive Board, please consider. You can not fail, everyone will be with you.

Committee Reports:


Drag Racing/Racer's Edge: Lanny Lowman reported that Racer's Edge had 13 people come out to race. Racing started at 8 PM but that they did not leave till 3 AM. There had been an accident on interstate 15 and all emergency personnel went to help, and with that it shut down the races until they returned. It was hot but everyone had a good time. The winners for the night were: 3rd Place - Pat Ackeret, 2nd Place - Jerry Cline, and in 1st Place - Mike Kerro. The next Auto Cross in 8/17, Racer's Edge/Drag Racing have 8 events left this year. Lanny L. stated that while they had the extra time for the shut down of the Racer's Edge the other night, the group came up with nicknames for some of the participants: Bill Martin - Sandy, Ken Rees - Rocket Man, Scott Mergele - Sneaky Pete, Jerry Cline - Wiley Coyote and Lanny Lowman - Reboot.

Storekeeper: Skip Kelley reported for Cindy Fuller who was out for eye surgery, that we have polo shirts, club t-shirts, hats, 40th Anniversary t-shirts, stickers and many more items. Be sure to check the website for more information.

Sunshine: Sally McVane reported that Lanny & Janet Lowman had a new grandson. Ken Ackeret had a problem with his heart racing and fluttering. He had been in the hospital but was now home resting. Jim Gregorius had back surgery on 7/1, went home, had to return to hospital, where they discovered that he had a staph infection. They had to insert a pick line in his heart. He is now doing good and at a care center, hopefully to be home by the 19th. Jim & Glenda LeMar just celebrated their 42nd Wedding Anniversary.

Mohave Mile: Scott Mergele introduced Mike Borders who runs the Mohave Mile Event. Mike B. stated they have 1 mile and 1 1/2 mile courses. This is a 2 day event, Friday & Saturday, or you can enter for just one day. LVCA club members get a 15% discount. See the website for more information.

Upcoming Events: Steve Tucker brought up Skip Kelley to tell us about Movie Afternoon to see "Turbo" on 7/20 at 2:10 PM, Sam's Town. Adults $8.00, Kids $7.00. Mike Groves came up to tell us about Sin City Supper this month at Tommy Bahama at 6:00 PM in Town Square. Steve T. then asked Donna Mergele to come up and introduce her visitors for Henry's Place. Donna M. then introduced Dawn Prendes and Linda Parker. Dawn P. spoke that they were having their Henry Prendes 7th Annual Gold Tournament at South Shore Lake Las Vegas. She came tonight to ask for volunteers to help with event, that volunteers were needed for different times over 2 days. One of the events is a Golf Balls from Heaven, where they drop golf balls from a helicopter, which are numbered, and the closest on the green to the hole, or a hole in one, wins $1,000.00 Please see Linda P. or herself to sign up to volunteer or purchase your golf balls for the dropping event. Skip Kelley then stated that the next Cars & Coffee will be Saturday, 8/3 at 7 - 10 AM Steve T. then asked Connie Gentry to come up to fill us in on her Mt. Charleston Runaway. Connie G. stated that we would meet at the Sante Fee and 9:30 AM on Saturday, 8/10. Lunch at the lodge will be $17.00 per person, this includes tip. Connie G. also stated that this is a Community Service event for St. Jude's at $5.00 per person. Pat Russell came up to tell us that the Silver State Race is 9/12-15, he still needs a couple of volunteers to help. See Pat R. after the meeting for more information. Skip Kelley came back up to introduce Stephanie Forbes from Nathan Adelson Hospice to tell us about "Serenades of Life" - Doctors in Concert at the Smith's Center on 9/21, Saturday night, 7 PM Stephanie F. stated that she had tickets tonight for $50.00 per person, which is seating on the main floor. This concert is a fund raiser for Nathan Adelson Hospice.

Miscellaneous Announcements: Denise Karpa came up to say that she and Dave went to the "Serenades of Life" concert last year and it was fantastic. Linda Benton stated that she has a friend selling a 76 Stingray, yellow, 125,000 miles, runs good, automatic, asking $9,900.00

Clean Car Award: Larry Leard presented the plaque to this months winner - Jim & Dawn Gregorio

Badge Drawing: Was not won this month.

50/50 Drawing: Won by Greg Welch

Corvette Trivia Drawing: Presented by Craig Carrell and won by Jeff Blue.

A motion to adjourn: A motion to adjourn was made by Cathy Wilson and seconded by Steve Tucker. The motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 8:59 PM.
