The meeting was
called to order by President Skip Kelley at 7:32 PM in the Stallion
Mountain Golf Club Grill Room. There were 93 members and 10 guests present.
Skip Kelley started off by welcoming everyone here tonight. Skip Kelley
brought up Rex Wilhoite to present a check to the club from the NCCC
Convention. Rex told us that it was for the number of hours that he
and other club members volunteered for organizing and working during
the convention. The check was for $2,670.00
Findlay Chevrolet: Doug Fleming reported that Findlay Chevrolet
Referral Cards are ready and available. There are 2 contact phone numbers
on them for Doug & Slim. Doug presented Larry Leard with a 2014
Chevrolet Corvette pin and pen in honor for his years as a Corvette
owner and his years with LVCA
A motion to approve the March meeting minutes was made by Sharron
Grodzinsky and seconded by Bob O'Brien. Motion carried. Treasurer's
Report: Connie Gentry reported that the t-shirt sales monies are really
looking good
Old Business: Skip Kelley reported that Standing Rule 4H would like
to be added regarding wearing the "Americana Club Shirt" to
all events were the public would be present. Skip asked for discussion:
Jeff Blue recommended a Mandate Recommendation, Roy Hoernke first, Scott
Mergele seconded, discussion approved. Cathy Wilson asked is you could
wear a specialty shirt for special events - like racing? Skip answered
yes to Cathy. The most asked question was who would mandate this request?
Skip reported that when an event was planned, the chairperson would
requests that the club participates wear the Americana Club Shirt to
his/her event. Randy Watson asked why? Skip answered Randy that this
would bring unity to the club. Skip then asked for a show of hand vote
be taken to approve this Standing Rule 4H of wearing the "Americana
Club Shirt" to all events were the public would be present. Yes
= 41, No = 35, vote passed as recommended.
New Business: Introduction of New and Prospective Members: Vice-President
Ken Ackeret reported that you need to start working on your participation
on some of the Award nomination such as making scrapbooks for past events,
most improved Corvette, etc. He also stated that when signing in on
the sign-up sheet for meetings and events to please write legibly so
that he can give you credit for your participation. Ken Rees from the
Election Committee asked for past Presidents & Vice Presidents to
come forward and give a talk on what it meant to them to serve in the
Club. Jeff Blue, President 2003 and Vice-President, stated that working
with the neat people who had the same interest in the love of the Corvette
was worthwhile, an effort yes, but a joy. Lin Hoernke, President 2005,
stated that while serving this was the year that hosted the first Corvette
Roulette. She stated that she felt she "gave back" fun to
the club, love of the club & car. Roy Hoernke, President 1999, that
he felt like this club is a family and he wanted to "give back"
also. Larrry Duis, President 1998 stated that while serving as President
would be your time to turn things around, and you could implement change
or add new. Ellie Johnson reported we have 197 members. Guests attending
were: TC McNett, Balinda McNett, Dean Schmidt, Mike Bakst, Jason Miller,
Manny Ceballos, Randy Cornejo, Geovani Cornejo and joining tonight are
Ken & Kay Thomas. Ellie then presented new member plaques to: Bob
Leis, Mike & Lynn Rabe, Victor Rodriguez, Sr., Jeff Termuhlen and
Cheryl Blum.
Committee Reports:
Drag Racing: Ken Rees reported that the next race will be a combined
racing event with Racer's Edge on Sunday, June 2nd.
Storekeeper: Cindy Fuller showed us the red, white & blue
new women's polo shirts that are now available for only $25.00. She
has in the 40th Anniversary T-shirts that were ordered for pick-up.
She also has some ladies Americana Polo's (older shirt style) in sizes
small & medium on sale for $20.00
Sunshine: Sally McVane reported that Dan Brooks had a table saw
accident and severed 2 fingers, they have reattached them. Wanda McCurry
has started her injections and was approved for 6 more. Sherrie &
Darrell Wood's daughter Jennifer just graduated from Ashford University
with a 4.0, and Summa Cum Laude, and 2 Honors. She also state that Sherrie
& Darrell just had their 4th grandchild, their 3rd grandson. Benita
& Jerry Klaizner just had their 2nd grandchild, a grand-daughter.
The Karpa's, Dave & Denise will be celebrating their 35th Wedding
Anniversary. And lastly Sally stated that the McVane's, Sally &
Bob, have sold their business, and they have 2 grandchildren graduating
from High School.
Racer's Edge: Lanny Lowman reported that there is a new format
for Racer's Edge and that it is posted on the website. Lanny reported
on the standings for the last race and gave a plaque for first place
for the first round Racers Edge Competition Winner. The winners were:
3rd Place - Mike Kerro, 2nd Place - Ray Byrom and 1st Place was Jerry
Cline. Their next event will be Nevada Open Road Challenge, May 17-19th
Upcoming Events: Pat Russell reported that Nevada Open Road Challenge
was all set for the week-end of May 16-19th, he still needs 24 volunteers
to help with the Silver State Classic Challenge on Sept. 12-15th.
Skip Kelley reported that on Saturday, May 18th we will be joining the
Vegas Valley Vetts for the Helldorado Parade at 3 PM, meet on
4th Street, just south of Charleston. Mike Groves reported that the
Sin City Supper will be meeting this month on Thursday the 23rd
at Tommy Rockers in Henderson. They will be giving us a 25% discount,
on food only. Steve Tucker reported that Tom Morgan will be hosting
an Indy 500 Party on Sunday May 26th at 8:30 AM - 1 PM. Tom will
be BBQ-ing hamburgers and hot dogs, BYOB, 50/50, games and swimming.
Skip Kelley stated that the next Cars & Coffee would be Saturday
June 8th at 7 AM. Denise Karpa reported that there still are 13 tickets
available for the Tuacahn Run play of "Starlight Express".
Invite your family and friends, only $49.00 Skip Kelley reported that
the 60 For 60 is shaping up beautifully. He has had great response
from other clubs who are interested in this event and want to participate.
It will be held at Sunset Park from 9 AM - 1 PM
Miscellaneous Announcements: Skip Kelley stated that his band, Alter'd
Ego will be playing on Saturday June 1st at Boulder Station, 7 PM Bob
McVane has a friend who is selling his 1997 Corvette, completely rebuilt,
white, for $15,000.00. He will be selling some other parts for $20.00
Clean Car Award: Larry Leard presented this month winner to John
Fuller.
Corvette Trivia Drawing: Was won by Ken Kroeger.
Badge Drawing: Was won by Jim Ranney.
A motion to adjourn: A motion to adjourn was made by Sherrie Wood
and seconded by Mark Wynne. The motion carried. The meeting adjourned
at 9:12 PM.
