The
meeting was called to order by President Skip Kelley at 7:30 PM in the
Stallion Mountain Golf Club Grill Room. There were 80 members and 13 guests
present.
Skip Kelley started off by welcoming everyone here tonight. Also stated
that volunteers were needed to chair or host events. See Steve Tucker
for events packages. Don't forget to bring items for the Toy Table.
Findlay Chevrolet: Slim said that the first 3 members to come see
him tonight will receive a special surprise from Findlay. He also stated
that a Detail this month is only would be $50.00, that is a savings of
$100.00. Also if you come in for a problem to be taken care and not sure
what it is, Findlay will waive the diagnostic fee. Slim thanked us for
our support and that they were proud to be our sponsor.
Silver State Challenge President Steve & Gail Waldman were present
and thanked us for all our help and participation. They also informed
us that Nevada now has renamed State Route 318 as the "Silver State
Classic Challenge Highway"
A motion to approve the February meeting minutes was made by Scott
Mergele and seconded by Sharron Grodzinsky. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s
Report: Skip Kelley said the treasurer’s report is on the web site
under “members only”. Skip said that we have our 3 volunteers to do
the audit with us, they are Lin Hoernke, Sally McVane and Bonnie Corbett.
President’s Report: Skip Kelley reported that those who attended
the Dinner in Sin City at Ricardo's Mexican Rest. had a good time with
good food and good friends. Skip asked Bob Hulshouser to come up and
introduce our guests: Daniel Silverstein, from the Wranglers and Dawn
Prendes from Henry's Place. Bob reported that we raised $975.00 for
Henry's Place at the Wrangler's Game. Daniel presented LVCA a check
for $975.00, then Bob presented Dawn a check in the amount of $1,000.00
from LVCA for Henry's Place. Dawn thanked us for the 7 years of support
which has raised over $4,200.00 over these years. She also reported
that they have received all their approvals to start building in Cedar
City, UT She announced that they will be having their 7th Annual Golf
Tournament at Lake Las Vegas, Private South Shore. The weekend, June
5-6 will also concerts and other events. Skip then reported that the
Kingman Run had over 20 cars and they had a great time.
Old Business: Amy Groves made a motion to approve the 2013 Budget,
seconded by Sharron Grodzinsky. Skip Kelley opened the motion to discussion.
Roy Hoernke asked questions regarding the monies for the Driver's Events.
Pat Russell explained about the monies from Silver State being given
to the Driver's Events. Roy Hoernke stated that he understood that Racer's
Edge and Drag Racing were self sufficient and that he would like to
see the individual budgets for Racer's Edge and Drag Racing. Lanny Lowman
stated that he would bring them next month for Roy Hoernke to see. Mark
Wynne called for a vote to approve the 2013 Budget. Vote carried and
approved.
New Business:
Introduction of New and Prospective Members: Ellie Johnson reported
we have 183 members. Guests attending were: Thierry Maioli, Joanne Maioli,
Mike Rabe, Lucia Gonzalez, Victor A. Rodriguez, Sr., Nicole Catteau,
Borus Jakubczack, Carine Jakubczack, Denis Petitjean, Keith Gronquist,
Dan Banks. Also present tonight and re-joining are Pete Shevlin and
Janice Gregorius.
Skip Kelley reported that Cindy Fuller has volunteered to be our Storekeeper
and asked for a motion to approve her. Pati Ackeret, 1st, Scott Mergele,
2nd, motion carried.
Committee Reports:
Racer’s Edge:
Lanny Lowman reported that there would be 13 separate events this year
for getting your points to receive a jacket along with 4 auto crosses.

Sunshine: Sally McVane reported that Joel Thies was in Summerlin
Hospital ICU from having surgery to remove part of his colon, his kidneys
then shut down and was put on a ventilator. She also stated that Henry
Grodzinsky is now on dialysis 3 times a week. Sally told us that Ken
Rees' family has been very busy - his middle son is getting married
on June 1, his youngest son is being stationed running a drone and his
oldest son retired by the military and living in Florida.
Store: Cindy Fuller showed some items to be sold: travel mugs for
$10.00, duffle bags for $15.00 and camp shirts for $65.00. Cindy also
stated that she was taking the orders for the new 40th Anniversary T-Shirts
tonight for the first order.
Drag Racing: Ken Rees reported that April 20th will be the first
race of this season. See the website for complete schedule and rules
Ken also stated that anyone can order Team Vegas Vettes shirt for $50.00
Ken then gave Jim Weeks and Scott Mergele plaques for joining the 200
MPH Club.
Upcoming Events: Steve Tucker called Benita Klaizner to report
on the St. Patrick's Day Parade. She stated that it was this
Saturday, Community Service event is $5.00 per car for St. Baldricks
Foundation. We will be giving our monies in memory of Dennis & Nancy
Ledwon's grand-daughter. Vegas Valley Vettes will be joining us. Meet
at 9:00 AM to line up. Mike Groves came and reported that Dinner
in Sin City is Thursday, March 28th at Famous Daves' BBQ in Henderson.
Mike Groves also reported on NCCC Convention in April 4-7. There
are 51 LVCA registered so far along with 326 from all over the U.S.
Benita Klaizner then reported that we (LVCA) will be hosting the Rally
on Saturday afternoon during the convention, ending at Findlay for drawings
and prizes. Skip Kelley reported that the next Cars & Coffee
will be Saturday, April 6th in Henderson at 8 AM. Pat Russell reported
that Nevada Open Road Challenge is the week-end May 16-19. Denise
Karpa came up to let us know that she is planning Tuacahn again
this year. The play will be "Starlight Express" this year.
We will be back at the Casa Blanca Hotel & Casino, this is a Community
Service event for St. Jude's. See the website for flyer and details.
Skip Kelley told us of his 60 For 60 event that he is planning
on June 30th at Sunset Park. Skip stated that this is the first day
of production for the then new C1 Corvette. Meet at Findlay's for a
caravan, drive past the Las Vegas Sign, then through Town Square and
down Sunset Blvd. to the park. He has spoke to other Corvette clubs
and invited them to join us.
Miscellaneous Announcements: Bob Lista informed us that in 5
months he will be moving to Florida. Marvin Maize reported that he has
a friend who has a 94 Vette for sale. See him for details. Benita Klaizner
reported that Rich & Debbie Cowles would be coming into town for
the "Police Run" in April which supports victims of violent
crimes. They are in need of volunteers to help serve food. Scott Mergele
reported that Findlay has come up with a date for Corvette Roulette
Car Show which will be Saturday, October 5th.
Clean Car Award: Larry Leard & Ken Rees presented this month
winner to Ralph Terry.
Corvette Trivia Drawing: Was presented by Joanne Maioli and won
by Bob O'Brien.
Badge Drawing: No winner tonight, prize goes up to $30.00 next month
A motion to
adjourn: A motion to adjourn was made by Denise Karpa and seconded
by Terry Rees. The motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 9:02 PM.
