General Membership Meeting - February 14, 2013 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Skip Kelley at 7:30 PM in the Stallion Mountain Golf Club Grill Room. There were 65 members and 13 guests present.

Skip Kelley started off by mentioning some ideas he has for this year: Enthusiasm - plan an event, fill out the events package, there is nothing we can't do. 40th Anniversary tee-shirt logo, 40th Anniversary Pin - 1 pin per member for an event and you will be able to purchase them. Welcome Committee - Jan Tucker needs volunteers to participate in this project. Peterson Gallery special corvette week-end. Cars & Coffee, one Saturday every month. Mossy Backs Anniversary special event coming up later this year. Don't forget to bring items for the Toy Table.

Findlay Chevrolet
: Slim thanked us for the Banquet. The first 3 members to come see him tonight will receive a special surprise from Findlay.

A motion to approve the December meeting minutes: was made by Nita Russell and seconded by Jan Tucker. Motion carried.


Treasurer’s Report: Skip said the treasurer’s report is on the web site under “members only”. Skip also called for 3 members to volunteer to be on the Audit Committee.

President’s Report:
Skip told of the great Awards Banquet that we had. Said that Ken Ackeret has already great things in mind for next year. Laps for Charity raised over $31,000.00 for the Speedway's Children Charity. Everyone had a great time. Super Bowl Party was great fun. Skip thanked all involved for stepping up and putting on this event. Store Keeper - we still need someone to step and take this position over. Brenda Cavallo presented Community Service Pins to the following members: David & Denise Karpa, Ken Kroeger and Russell Riner.

New Business: Introduction of New and Prospective Members:
Ellie Johnson reported we now have 183 members. Guests attending were: Bob Lees, Lucy Gonzalez, Victor Rodriguez, Joanne Hart, Nicole Catteau, Thierry Maioli, Joanne Maioli, Dan Banks, Louie Banks, Bob Rynda, Suzanne Pashnick, Carine Jakubczack, Boris Jakubczack. Joyce Colucci and Kathleen Unzicker are receiving their plaques tonight. Ellie presented John Finkowski with his 5 Year Pin.

Skip presented the 2013 Budget for approval. Nita Russell motion for approval of new budget, Bob O'Brien seconded. This motion was denied for further question and discussion. Sherrie Wood asked what is line item name of "driving event". Pat Russell answered that it was the combination of Racer's Edge and Drag Racing to make the driving event to receive monies from Silver State. Sherrie then asked why are we taking money from Silver State that is club money to promote driving event? Pat answered that this money was earned by a driving event and should promote driving events. The question was then raised why supporting something so small in participation and not for everyone. Skip then responded with we can spend more to make more. Rex Wilhoite stated that the club should not support something that everyone can not participate in. Pat Russell said anyone can join driving events. Sherrie Wood then stated that Racer's Edge supports itself. Sherrie then asked why are we presenting a unbalanced budget in the first place? Skip Kelley answered that the income was not so much coming in as the expenses going out. To offset some expenses, Mike Groves offered complete printing services to the club from their business.

Ken Ackeret motioned to table this discussion and to table the 2013 Budget till the E-Board can meet again and present a new budget at the next general meeting, Bruce Locker seconded, motions carried.

Committee Reports: Drag Racing:
Ken Rees reported that they will have 4 events this year with the first event on April 20th, along with the Dyno Shoot-Out. Ken present a plaque to Thayne Colvin for joining the 400 H.P. Club from the Dyno Shoot-Out last December. Ken also reported that all the rules and schedule is on the website. Mike Groves asked if anyone can get a Drag Racing shirt. Ken stated yes club members can purchase the "Team Vegas Vettes" shirt, they are $50.00 and that they will be ordering some new shirts.

Racer’s Edge: Cathy Wilson reported on the competitive driving this year, the first event will be April 20th, along with Drag Racing event. See her to sign-up tonight. You can find the new rules on the website.

Website: Pat Russell reported that the 40th logo is on the website, just click on the 40th icon for a larger image and you can print it out. Pat also state that the "for Sale" section is for everyone, members or not (just no businesses). Tech Tips needs input for this page, see Pat if you have any ideas or tips.

Upcoming Events: Steve Tucker reported for Benita K that the President's Run will be leaving tomorrow morning from the Blue Hawk Tavern , meet at 8:15 AM to caravan. Social Dining: Amy Groves reported on a new event to be held on the 4th Thursday of every month, a new dining place each month. There will be discounts and specials. First one is this month on Thursday February 28th at Ricardo's (Flamingo & Decatur) at 6:00 PM. Wranglers Night: Bob Hulshouser reported this will be on Saturday, March 2nd, game started at 7:05PM. Come early for photos at 6:30 PM, there will be secured parking for our club cars. This will be a community service event for Henry's Place. Kingman Run: Rudy Blum reported this event will be on Saturday, March 9th. Meet at Cars & Coffee at 8:00 AM to caravan. Cost is $5.00 per car, free time when first arrive (museum, shops, etc.) then meeting for lunch all together. Sign-up sheet on clip board going around tonight, also bring your radios. St. Patrick's Day Parade: Steve Tucker stated for Benita K that the parade will be Saturday, March 16th in Henderson. This will be a community service event, $5.00 per car going to St. Baldrick's Foundation. Feel free to decorate your car, and yourself. NCCC Convention: Mike Groves and Rex Wilhoite reported this convention will be held on April 4-7th, registration is $25.00 for members, location is at the Silverton Hotel & Casino. Our club will be chairing a Rally. There will be an Auto Cross, also a track event at Spring Mountain, a car show and a Sunday morning trophy breakfast. Scott Mergele reported that our club will be the tech crew on Friday & Saturday for the auto cross and racing events. He needs volunteers to be a part of this crew, see him after the meeting. Nevada Open Road Challenge: Pat Russell/Tom Skaggs reported this even is coming soon and they need volunteers. See them after the meeting to sign up. Steve Tucker stated that we are in need of a chairperson to head the Findlay's Father's Day Car Show. See him for more details.

Miscellaneous Announcements: Skip Kelley reported the Alter Ego, his band, will be playing on Saturday, March 2nd in the Railhead at Boulder Station. Denise Karpa reported that she would like to schedule another Tuacahn Run this year if members are interested. Some preliminary information is - June 29th week-end, need 25-30 people for the following costs - $70.00 a room (double occupancy), $15.00 for the bus, $49.50 for "Starlight Express" play. See Denise if you are interested. Tom Skaggs ha s friend who is selling his Shelby Cobra for $100,000.00, see him for more information. Victor Rodriguez asked if anyone new of a race track being built out on Apex Rd?

Clean Car Award: Larry Leard presented this month winner to Ken & Terry Rees

Corvette Trivia Drawing: Was presented by Dawn Gregorio and won by Victor Rodriguez.

Badge Drawing: Winner was Amy Groves for $30.00.

50/50: Winner of $148.00 was Bill Martin.

A motion to adjourn: A motion to adjourn was made by Ken Rees and seconded by Scott Mergele. The motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 9:28 PM.
