General Membership Meeting - April 12, 2012 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Benita Klaizner at 7:32 PM in the Tres Rios Cantina. There were 71 members and 11 guests present.

Dominic Parisi - LVH: Dominic noted we have been at this location for three years now. They have been an excellent sponsor for us and we are very appreciative of the use of the Tres Rios Cantina. LVH is now offering great deals in their specialty restaurants for us. In addition, if you are having a special event you can call Dominic and he will arrange everything for you.

Findlay Chevrolet: Slim Stephens, Service Manager for Findlay Chevrolet and DJ Jeffers, Sales, thanked us for our hospitality. Slim said for anyone who needs service this month to see him and he will give them a very special deal tonight.

Guests: Bob Hulshouser and Dawn Prendes, President of Henry's Place, let us know we helped to raise $903.50 for Henry's Place. A check was presented to them. Daniel Silverstein from Wrangler's ticket sales thanked us for our participation. We have participated in this event for six years. Dawn is hoping to bring some of the under privileged children up to camp this summer, even though they do not yet have approval for a building. Our thanks to Bob for organizing a great event.

A motion to approve the March meeting minutes:
Was made by Scott Mergele and seconded by Lanny Lowman. Motion carried.

Treasurer's Report: Benita said the treasurer's report is available on our website and if you have any questions please see our treasurer, Denise Karpa.

Old Business:
Benita reported that the audit of our books is 99% done and a report will be given to the members once it is finished.

New Business:
Birthdays will continue to be listed on the agenda, but will not be announced. Please see Sharron if you have not received your free drink coupon, courtesy of the LVH.

Introduction of New and Prospective Members:
Ellie Johnson reported we currently have 186 members. Two new members are joining tonight. Welcomed guests tonight were, TC McNett, Belinda McNett and Rebecca Sims from Corvettes West. We are pleased to have them join us! Also joining us are: Louise Wynne, Gary Lowers, Dawn Prendes, Jr. Davenport, Greg Wallace, and our three new members who will be joining tonight; William Martin, Patty Jo Diefenbach and Jim Diefenbach. Gary Moore and Tom Morgan will receive their plaques tonight.

Committee Reports:

Racer's Edge: The 2nd drag workshop will be held April 27nd in conjunction with Midnight Mayhem. New autocross dates are: Oct 21, Nov 11, and Dec 9th. They will be held at the speedway. Cathy said there will also be an autocross workshop at the Silverton on Aug 25th. Pat still needs one couple to work the Nevada Open Road Challenge on May 17-20th. A hotel room is free for the workers.

Drag Racing:
The Drag Racing series first event went well and the next event is May 5th and racing will continue through June 16th. Eighteen corvettes were at the first event. The races are "bracket" racing and very easy for anyone to participate in.

Sunshine:
Carl Hastings's Mom died at almost 95 years old. Terri and Ken Rees's son will be graduating as a second lieutenant in the Air Force. Skip Kelley's band is playing June 2nd at the Railhead Saloon at Boulder Station.

Past Events:
Ken thanked the Wrangler's club for their support. Sherrie said they had a great time at the St Patrick's Day parade in spite of the blustery weather. There were 42 members and guests and 22 cars present. Someone's car (Lennard's) had to be jumped! (He received the club salute!)The April Fool's Day Ralley was a success with 19 cars and 40 people. They collected 42 jars of peanut butter for community service. 1st Place went to Brenda and Jimmy Cavallo, 2nd to Curt Miller, 3rd to Ray and Brenda Belak, 4th to Lanny and Janet Lowman and 5th to Darrell Wood and Thayne Colvin. Benita's impromptu Sonic Drive-in event was fun and she would like people in different parts of town to arrange some Drive-in events.

Upcoming Events:
The Mohave Mile will take place May 5-6 in Mohave CA. Scott said there is a 15% discount for LVCA members and you do need a helmet. Pat reminded us in September the Silver State Open Road Race is having its 25th anniversary. The NV Open Road Race is May 17-20th. Lin and Irene are planning Breakfast in the Park on June 3, sponsored by the Mossybacks. (All club members and guests are welcome to attend.) It will be at 9AM at Police Memorial Park on West Cheyenne. The cost is $10.00 for members and $12.00 for non-members. Please remember to bring a chair. Denise is planning for Tuacahn Outdoor Theatre. We will stay in Mesquite and have a bus to and from the theatre. Flyers and registration are on our web site for June 23-24th. Our friends from Corvettes West announced this year is the 30th Anniversary Big Bear Bash. The date is June 29-July 1st. The cost is only $50.00 for registration which includes Friday and Saturday night dinners, Saturday and Sunday breakfast and bottomless beer. What a bargain! There will be a car show, autocross, game rallye and poker rallye at additional cost, but there are huge cash prizes. It will be held in downtown Big Bear this year and rooms are available at the Nottingham Hotel and The Robin Hood Inn. One free certificate for the registration was donated for our raffle.

Miscellaneous Announcements:
Benita said Rick and Debbie Cowels need help with their Baker to Las Vegas Run for Charity on April 21 and 22nd. Scott and Ron, our liaisons for our sponsor, Findlay Chevrolet, are planning a Corvette Roulette car show for October 13th. There will be raffle prizes and other corvette clubs will be invited. Profits will go to St. Jude's. Sally will be having a Sonic Drive-in community event on June 8th for Street Teens. Lastly, she will probably have the Idaho trip on Aug 2nd-6th. Lin said we can pay for Breakfast in the Park tonight if we want. She and Roy showed their Calloway in Oklahoma this year at a great car show sponsored by a very small club and we should be able to put on a great car show. She is "laying down the gauntlet" for all members to step up to the plate. Dale Foust has their 87 "Orange Thunder" for sale. It has lots of extras! Rex sent out an email to all members about NCCC…please read it.

Clean Car Award
: Larry Leard announced Pat Russell won.

Badge Drawing: No winner.

50/50: $149.00 Won by Terry Rees.
$100 LVH Gift Certificate: Won by Nita Russell.

A motion to adjourn: A motion to adjourn was made by Jim Gregorio and seconded by Kathy Clapp. The motion carried (Barely) To Many Mossybacks! LOL! The meeting adjourned at 9:00 PM.
The President invited everyone to stay and socialize with each other after the meeting.
