The
meeting was called to order by Vice President Lennard Grodzinsky at 7:30 PM in
the Tres Rios Cantina. There were 61 members and 12 guests present. Doug
Fleming, Sales Manager for Findlay Chevrolet, DJ Jeffers and Slim Stephens thanked
the members for a wonderful banquet. They also thanked Ed Anderson who purchased
a new corvette from them. A
motion to approve the January meeting minutes: was made by Scott Mergele and
seconded by Lin Hoernke. Motion carried. Treasurer’s
Report: Denise Karpa said the treasurer’s report is available at the sign
in table. Old
Business: A survey was sent to members who have email, asking their opinion
of Corvette Roulette. There were 42 replies with 26 voting not to have the event
and 13 to have it. This represented about 1/3 of our membership and based on this
feedback, the E-Board voted not to have Corvette Roulette this year as a three
day event. However, they did vote to try to find a one day event to tag the name
to, in order to preserve the name. New
Business: Lennard gave an over view of the budget which, because of not having
Corvette Roulette, was a lot easier to balance. Our By-Laws require we prepare
an annual budget and members approve it. After input from all of the E-Board members,
we have prepared a neutral budget that adequately funds the reserve account (based
on 75% of the expenses for the year). There are some assumptions in the budget:
Improvement of membership, Equal attendance at next year’s Award Banquet, and
most events will make 10% for the club. Rex Wilhoite motioned to approve the budget
and Sherrie Wood seconded the motion. The motion carried. Introduction
of New and Prospective Members: Ellie Johnson reported we currently have 184
members. She handed out year pins and two plaques. Welcomed tonight were Judy
Thomas, Gary Moore, Wendy Fidance, Marlene Kolicius, Betty Hodgson, Gary Lowers,
Robert Lowers, Louise Wynne, Joyce Colucci, and Scott Shaw. Committee
Reports: Community
Service: Brenda Cavallo handed out Community Service Pins.
Drag
Racing: Ken told us the new series begins on February 25th. The sponsors are
Protec and Ace Brothers. Anyone can participate as it is bracket racing. They
will be happy to help anyone who wants to learn.
Publicity: Gino
said we had an honorary mention in the RJ.
Racer’s Edge: Lanny
Lowman said a survey to members had 20 respondents who were interested in Racer’s
Edge. They would like to have 12 events of which the best 6 would count. There
will be a drag racing school on February 24th.
Store: Luanne Montoya
will have lots of discounted items at the next meeting. She is also ordering some
more “bling” shirts. Jan Tucker is helping with the store. Sunshine:
Sharron reported Larry Duis thanked us all for the lovely plant and Craig Carrell
is out of the hospital. He will be going for his 2nd to last chemo treatment soon.
Carl Corbett is doing well except for an adjustment in his medications. Sally
has the flu and Jerry Klaizner is having a small operation. Scott and Donna Mergele
lost their beloved dog, Shirley.
Web Master: May 17-20th is the
Nevada Open Road and Pat Russell needs someone to check tires. There are currently
only 4 events in the U.S. like this. The cost runs about $1,000 plus lodging.
Volunteers get their rooms paid for and one driver and navigator get free registration.
September is the 25th Anniversary of Silver State Classic Challenge. Pat needs
car photos for the web site. It has a “Hot Items” section, For Sale Items, Tech
Tips, Videos, photos from 2003 on, Racer’s Edge and some flyers from years ago.
Past Events: Gino and Greg thanked everyone for joining in the
party. They also said that it was a great fun and Holly got the “hub cap”. Notably,
the bowling ball has been stolen already. At Laps for Charity Connie said we contributed
a whopping $1,320 for Speedway’s Children’s Charities. It was a very fun three
lap race with some people going as fast as 120 and some as slow as 75, but everyone
had fun. Jo Kot thanked everyone for their help at the Super Bowl party. The profits
went to St. Jude’s. By popular vote; they are willing to have it again next year.
Vickie and Thayne Colvin were the lucky recipients of the hub cap at this event.
Upcoming Events: We will be leaving from the Blue Hawk at noon
Friday 2/17 for Sherrie’s President’s Run to Lancaster. There are 37 people
going and we will be partying at the Cowle’s house. Debbie has made a special
quilt for the raffle. Sherrie is also hosting an April Fool’s Day Rallye
on April 1st. She guarantees there will not be anyone getting lost or arguing.
Cathy Wilson described the Midnight Mayhem Drag Racing work shop on 2/24.
Please meet at the Iron Skillet at 5PM. Ken Ackeret said there will be an annual
St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Henderson on March 17th. The cost is $5.00
per car. Bob Hulshouser said tickets are available on the Wranglers web site for
our Wrangler’s Night, which will benefit Henry’s Place. Metro Police will
be teaming up with us on this event. There will be special parking and security.
The cost is $13.00 per person with $6.50 going to charity. Bring your family and
friends. The Mojave Mile will be held three times this year. You need a
helmet, gloves and long sleeve shirt. Scott said the entry is $450.00 with a 15%
discount for LVCA members. Denise is already planning for Tuacahn Outdoor
Theatre. We will stay in Mesquite and have a bus to and from the theatre. Flyers
and registration are on our web site for June 23-24th. The musical will be Hairspray.
