The
meeting was called to order by President Sherrie Wood at 7:34 PM in the Tres Rios
Cantina. There were 55 members, 4 new members joining and 5 guests present.
Sherrie
gave the answer to her question in the Vetter, “Current production of Corvettes
at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant is eight cars per hour, or ______ per week.”
The answer of course was: 320 per week.
A
motion to approve the August meeting minutes: was made by Nita Russell and
seconded by Nancy Ledwon. Motion carried.

Introduction
of New and Prospective Members:
Ellie Johnson reported we have 204 members and joining tonight are: James and
Nancy Abberger, Karen Lowers, and Jerry Cline. Guests attending are Mike and Amy
Groves, Ray and Barb Belak and Bruce Locker. Dues statements went out September
1st. Call Ellie if you did not receive one.
Committee Reports:
Corvette Roulette: Sherrie encouraged everyone to participate on
Oct 7th-9th. Carol Gagliardi has registration forms tonight and they are available
on the web site.
Drag Racing: Ken Rees reminded us drag racing
is an inexpensive way to participate in club racing events and have fun at the
Speedway. The Quickest time was won by Cathy Wilson and the best Dial-In Time
by Tom Skaggs. This year’s Women’s overall winner is Cathy Wilson and the men’s
is Lannie Lowman. Congratulations to them and all the participants.
Racer’s
Edge: At the August 27th Races Cathy reported Curt Miller came in first and
Lannie Lowman second. Videos are on our website.
Sunshine: Sherrie
let us know Sandy Bagnall is doing well from her auto accident, Dave Karpa is
recovering excellently from his open heart surgery and Bob and Sally McVane are
going to be great-grandparents again.
NCCC: Just as a reminder,
there is information in the Vetter about all the discounts available with your
NCCC card.
Past Events: Ken Ackeret & Connie Gentry gave a
brief rundown of the Mt. Charleston Run Away with all the details of who was pulled
over (The Tuckers and the Jirans) and Jim and Brenda Cavallo’s flat tire episode.
In the end $280.00 was raised for the Mt. Charleston Fire Department.
Upcoming
Events: The 9/11 Remembrance Car Show is tomorrow morning. Sharron said to
meet in the Walgreen’s parking lot at 8AM for staging for this historic event.
There will be coffee and donuts for all those early risers.
Ken gave a
magnificent presentation telling us all about Corvette Roulette and how nice the
rooms at the Aliante are. This is our club event for the year, for our club members.
Support your club and attend. There is a lot of work put into this event and
it will be great fun.
Pat reminded us Silver State will soon be here.
This 90 mile open road race is September 15-18th. The next Race is in May 2012.
Rancho High School Homecoming is on September 23rd. Lin needs one more
convertible. This is a Community Service event.
Wine Down From Corvette
Roulette will take place on October 15th. Lin and prospective member, Bob Hart
will be leading caravans from Silverton and Red Rock Casinos to the Sanders Family
Winery in Pahrump at 10:30 AM. Cost is $5.00 per person and is not a C.S. event.
The 2nd Annual UNLV Department of Engineering Car Show takes place on
October 16th at Town Square. Proceeds go directly to the students and the fee
is $25.00 per car. Ken Kroger also will give C.S. points for a $10.00 donation
per person. There will be bands and food.
Monster Mash will take place
on October 22nd and is a community service for autistic children. It will be held
at the Hilton Hotel from 11AM to 4PM. Costumes are optional.
Ken asked
for a chair for the cookie exchange and Benita Klaizner volunteered. It will be
at the McSimov’s house. A volunteer is still needed to be Halloween Party event
chair.
Miscellaneous Announcements: Sharron let us know the 9/11
Remembrance has events all weekend long on Fremont Street. Benita is asking for
volunteers for UNLV Homecoming on Nov 4th. Skip is working on restoring his car.
Progress is posted on facebook at Xtreme67. Altered Ego will be playing Saturday
September 24th at the Rail Head Saloon. Lennard let us know the annual Awards
banquet will be Jan 21st at Sunset Gardens. He needs to identify members eligible
for awards. Please submit your scrap book or suggestions to the committee. Prospective
member, Retired Sgt. Major Mike Groves, and his wife, Amy will be having a “get
to know you” party at their house on Sept 24th featuring the Randy Anderson Band
from 1 to 7PM at 5721 East Owens Avenue. Brenda Cavallo thanked everyone who helped
them when they had their flat tire. This is what our club is about. Ken described
in detail Benita’s failed attempt at getting rid of “the hub cap”. Never saw it
left on the ground before. Rex let us know that on Sunday at the Speedway there
is an autocross.
