The
meeting was called to order by President Sherrie Wood at 7:31 PM in the Tres Rios
Cantina. There were 55 members and 16 guests present.
D.J. Jeffers, from
Findlay Chevrolet will have information on new Corvettes soon. $50.00 gift certificates
for members using the service department last month were distributed.
Dominic,
our host from the Hilton Hotel, stopped by to say hello.
Richard Williams
(L.T.) from the 9/11 Remembrance Car Show and a member of the Marine Riders gave
a presentation on this historical event taking place on Sept. 9th on Fremont Street.
The cost is $40.00 per car which will go to victims and survivors of 9/11 and
the Wounded Warrior Project. We will stage between 8 AM and 10AM and the show
will start at noon. A commemorative coin will be given to each participant and
there are four large 9/11 trophies depicting the twin towers as well as 25 plaques
to be won. Information and registration can be found on the web site www.911unity.org.
This is part of three days of celebrations.
A motion to approve the
April meeting minutes: was made by Carl Hastings and seconded by Nita Russell.

soon and are available at the sign in table.
President: Sherrie
announced August birthdays and those members present received a free drink coupon
courtesy of the Las Vegas Hilton.

1st.
Committee Reports:
Corvette Roulette: Pat reminded
us the information is on the web site and the time to register and book your room
is now. He still needs volunteers.
Drag Racing: Ken Rees encouraged
all members to participate. You are drag racing against your own time and both
ladies and men race against each other. The next races are August 14 and 27th.
The 27th is a Racer's Edge event.
NCCC: "The Future Corvette
Owners" is a part of NCCC and registration for life or until 18 years is
only $10.00. It is an excellent opportunity for your children or grandchildren.
Carl Hastings reported we are the largest club on the West Coast and 8th largest
in the nation.
Racer's Edge: Cathy Wilson reported they are at
the halfway point and said there is still time to compete. Cathy passed out trophies
for the last race and Curt came in 2nd and Cathy 1st.
Sunshine:
Sadly, Ann Torres lost her brother, Rich Masluk lost his mother, Marvin Maize
lost his mother, Tom Townsend lost his father, Pattie Maize is in the hospital
with congestive heart failure, and Mike Rees had his jaw rebuilt. Happily, Dave
Karpa has breezed through his heart surgery and is present tonight after only
a week. Jenny and Larry Leard are on a cruise for their 50th anniversary.
Upcoming
Events: Pat reminded us Silver State will soon be here. This 90 mile open
road race begins in Ely. Next year will be the 25th Anniversary. The race takes
place September 15-18th.
The 9/11 remembrance Car Show is on Sept 9th.
Sharron and Lennard Grodzinsky are the co-chairs. Participants need to contact
them so that they can give you the final information regarding staging. There
will be lots of entertainment and excitement.
Rancho High School Homecoming
is on September 23rd. Lin needs volunteers with convertibles.
Wine Down
From Corvette Roulette will take place on October 15th. Lin and prospective member,
Bob Hart will be leading caravans from Silverton and Red Rock Casinos to the Sanders
Family Winery in Pahrump at 10:30 AM. Cost is $5.00 per person and is not a C.S.
event.
The 2nd Annual UNLV Department of Engineering Car Show takes place
on October 16th at Town Square. Proceeds go directly to the students and the fee
is $25.00 per car. Ken Kroger also will give C.S. points for a $10.00 donation
per person. There will be bands and food.
Miscellaneous Announcements:
Lennard has lots of raffles prizes this week. Non-members are not able to participate.
Dave Benton announced a 2002 coupe with 75,800 miles for $19,500. Cathy Wilson
reminded us we are supposed to have a front license plate, but it can be carried
in the car. Carol Gagliardi announced Bonnie Rauch, our 1978 past president, is
at our meeting. Ann needs gifts for the CR raffle. Darrell has a Canadian looking
for an '81 or '82 four speed convertible to buy.
