The
meeting was called to order by President Sherrie Wood at 7:32 PM in the Tres Rios
Cantina. There were 52 members and 14 guests present. Doug Fleming, the
representative from Findlay Chevrolet, expressed their excitement to be our new
sponsor. They will be having Frank’s Father’s Day car show on June 18 with a “Cruise
Night” the evening before. It will benefit the Clark County Burn Foundation. Doug
is the sales manager; DJ is our sales liaison, Jim Gregorio our service technician.
Slim Stevens, service writer, explained the discount on parts and service. They
will also donate raffle prizes every month. Warren Whitney, a Captain from Clark
County Fire Department, is the President of the Burn Foundation. He explained
their current project is to purchase CPR dummies for teaching.
A motion
to approve the April meeting minutes: was made by Lin Hoernke and seconded
by Carol Gagliardi.
President:
Sherrie announced May birthdays and those members present received a free drink
coupon courtesy of the Las Vegas Hilton. Sherrie brought a dozen Black Forest
cup cakes as an enticement for the return of her gavel. No one returned it, but
the cup cakes were great.
Treasurer’s Report: Copies are on the
web site and at the sign in table.
New Business:
Introduction
of New and Prospective Members: Membership Chairman, Ellie Johnson introduced
guests attending: Lynn Hunton, Erika Griffith, Bob Hart, Marlene Kolicius, Tom
Snelson, John Share, Bill and Bella Gabor, Nancy and Jim Abberger, Will White,
Horace and Hetty Noble, Mike Knopp. We have 205 members.
Committee
Reports:
Corvette Roulette: Lin is requesting donations for
the décor and a list of items was passed out. There is a link on our web
site to Corvette Roulette and the Aliante hotel with discount code.
Drag
Racing: Ken Rees let us know the next three races are May 21, June 4 and June
18 at the Speedway. Trophies are given at the track.
Racer’s Edge:
Cathy Wilson said Silver State is this weekend. Last weekend was the Mohave Mile
Shootout. Pat Ackert came in first and Darrell Wood second for the index challenge
for Racer’s Edge. Mike borders announced the Mohave Mile Index winners: 130 MPH
– Russ Ryder, 140 MPH – Pat Ackert, 150 MPH – Darrell Wood 1st and Cathy Wilson
2nd, 160 MPH Ken Reese 1st and Lannie Lohman 2nd, 170 MPH – Roy Hoernke 1st and
Scott Mergele 2nd.
Sunshine: Sadly, Nita Russell’s Mom died and
Sherrie Wood’s Father also died unexpectedly. Kathy let us know Don Ford is in
city of Hope with Pneumonia and Henry Grodzinsky had two coronary stents in London
and is doing great.
Past Events: Lin told us about the fun at the
Mossyback picnic, which was at Hemenway park in Boulder City. Billy Bob set things
up at the park, and we got to see several wild big horn sheep while we were there.
Jimmy Cavallo said the Wine and Cheese party was tremendous and there was lots
of food, fun and games. Thanks to all who helped and participated.

Events:
Helldorado Parade: Will take place at 7PM on Saturday
May 14th. Meet at 4PM.
Midnight Mayhem and Drag Workshop: Cathy
said to meet at the Iron Skillet at 7PM on May 20th to have dinner with the experts.
No helmet is required for the racing later that night.
Indy 500 Hundred
Anniversary Brunch: Pat & Nita are hosting at their house. Be there at
8AM on May 29th so you don’t miss anything! Brunch in the AM and hamburgers and
hot dogs later. Cost is $10.00 member and $12.00 non-member. This is a CS event
for the USO for an additional $5 per person. Tuacahn: Sorry late
comers. The bookings are closed. The cost for the bus has been set at $15.00 for
those already signed up. Drinks on board!
Findlay Car Show: Darrell
is the chair for the June 18th Findlay car show and as our new sponsors they hope
we will all participate. Proceeds will benefit the Clark County Fire fighters
Burn Foundation and there will be a prize for the best club participation.
Miscellaneous
Announcements: Larry Duis and Karen Anderson gave an overview of their Australia
/ New Zealand 2012 trip. It is open to anyone, so if you are interested contact
them. Skip’s daughter is graduating from UNLV and has a job. He will be with Alter
Ego this week end at Boulder station. Tom has drag radials mounted on steel rims
for sale - $300.00.
Clean Car Award: Roy Hoernke won this month.
Badge Drawing: No winner.
