LVCA General Membership Meeting
Minutes January 13, 2011


The meeting was called to order by President Sherrie Wood at 7:32 pm in the Tres Rios Cantina. There were 83 members and 9 guests present.

A motion to approve the December meeting minutes
was made by Don Kot and seconded by Thayne Colvin.

Our Sponsor representative was not present.

Treasurer's Report: Our balance is positive and the monthly report is available on line and at the
Membership desk. Dave will be presenting the annual budget next month.

January Birthdays: Names were announced and those members present received a free drink coupon courtesy of the Las Vegas Hilton.

Old Business: None

New Business:

Introduction and Approval of New Board Members: Pat Ackeret made a motion to approve new board members and Don Kot seconded the motion. The motion carried.

Approval to Keep Fairway Chevrolet as Our Sponsor: Carl Corbett made a motion to approve Fairway as our sponsor. Jennifer Searle seconded the motion and it carried.

Introduction of New and Prospective Members: Membership Chairman, Ellie Johnson, stated we have 204 members which is down 32 from last year. 27 did not renew, 3 were no response, 1 sold their car and 15 were late. Ellie requested if you change your address, email or phone number, please let her know. Also, if you change your vehicle, give her a copy of your new registration. If you own a convertible and are available for Community Service activities, let her know. Guests attending tonight were: Kenny Riemer (past President), Paul & Elsa Madill, Dick & Jerrye Mc Ewan, Evelynne Brenner with Rex Wilhoite, Renie Kiddie, Jim Hamman with Wanda McCurry, and Mike DeCills with Trisha Rush. Randy and Jan Watson were presented with their Membership Plaque.

Corvette Roulette October 7-9 2011: Co-chairman, Pat Russell said the planning is going well and he will keep us informed. He is getting great support from the Aliante Casino, which is a smaller venue and closer to the Speedway. Information is available on the website.

Committee Reports:

Archives: We do not have a chair yet, but Sherrie would like a Mossyback to volunteer for this position.

Communications: Mark Klein (Not present)

Community Service: Brenda Cavallo

Drag Racing: Ken Rees outlined the year as 5 series at the drag strip. It will be bracket racing, making it fair for all entries. The cost is $5.00 for the series and a separate fee at the track and if you are new, they will be happy to help you with the rules.

NCCC: Carl Hastings reported our new insurance is B&B. The transition should be transparent to members and there will not be any difference in the waivers or forms. You will still sign for every event.

Mossyback Chairperson: Lin Hoernke has been in the club for 20 years. She will be making an effort to get the Mossyback members more active. You can recognize them by their shirts with the snail logo and they have a wealth of knowledge they are willing to share.

NCM: Thayne Colvin

Newsvetter: Valentine messages are available for February Vetter. Information is available on the website.

Publicity: Jimmy Cavallo stated he has put us on the RJ website calendar.

Racer's Edge: Cathy Wilson has planned 8 competitive racing events this year. Your two lowest events will be dropped. There will be two Rallies, Matching Time Autocrosses, Bracket Drags and Open Road Races. The overall winner gets a jacket. Cathy let members know that it is not racing as you may think, but driving consistently and using control. There are three ways to get information: on the website, talk to other racers, and go out and watch! They are all willing to help you get involved.

Sponsorship: Chuck Searle

Store: Sherrie needs a volunteer to be Storekeeper. Currently all items are available on the website with prices and an ordering form.

Sunshine: Sally McVane let us know Dawn Gregorio was hurt in a pedestrian accident and has a broken wrist. Rich Torres has some continuing health problems.

Webmaster: Pat Russell wants to make our website improved and more useful. He needs member's car photos and suggests all new members e-mail a photo of their car when they join. If you have questions call or email him. Sherrie reminded us that the Members Only section contains all members email addresses and they are confidential; not to be distributed.

Past Events:


The Cookie Exchange: Turned out to be lots of fun with lots of good food.

Dyno Shootout: Shelby did a wonderful job and participants had their engines examined for horsepower.

Upcoming Events:


Awards Banquet: 90 people will be attending Saturday Jan 22, 2011.

Superbowl Party: Will be at Don and Jo Kot's house with a football pool, games, pot luck and BYOB.

President's Run: Sherrie says we leave at noon from Green Valley Ranch Casino and there will be fun events all weekend which you may choose and pay for individually. It is $5.00 to register. There will be a Poker tournament, poker run, Oatman rally and lunch in Chloride. Monies are due by Jan 28; no refunds after Feb 4.

Wrangler's Night: Bob Hulshouser stated this event is for Henry's Place charity established in memory of Sgt. Henry Prendez. Tickets are $13.00 of which $6.50 is for the charity. Dawn Prendez will be attending our next meeting.

New Meeting Place discussion: Sherrie stated the directors were tasked with looking for a new venue and our former venue The Kohinoor Banquet Room on Hulapai would like us back. After much pro and con discussion, Bonnie Corbett motioned we give it a try next month and Jennifer Searle seconded the motion. The vote showed 9 in favor and the majority against. The motion was not carried.

Miscellaneous Announcements: Denise Karpa said our annual Tuacahn event will be held June 11 & 12. The show is Grease and we will be staying at the Casablanca in Mesquite. Jim Wolf asked members if they had an interest in a Corvette Museum trip and reminded us the Orleans Buffet is this Sunday. Linda Benton said she has last month's store orders ready. Wanda McCurry is the manager at a shop at the Speedway and will give members a discount. Scott Mergele, speaking for Mike Borders, said the first Mohave Mile Shoot Out will be April 9 & 10 and rooms will be paid for volunteers. Sherrie announced this year's theme is: LIFE IN THE FAST LANE!

Clean Car Award: Larry Leard and Jim Weeks announced the winner is Bill Thomas with his Z51.

Badge Drawing: No winner. Next month will be $30.00.

A motion to adjourn was made by Darrell Wood and seconded by Pat Ackeret. The meeting adjourned at 9:10pm.
