General Membership Meeting - October 14, 2010 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Sherrie W. at 7:32pm in the Tres Rios Cantina next to the Paradise Café at the Las Vegas Hilton. There were 81 members and 13 guests present.

Mike Klein from Fairway Chevrolet thanked us again for last month's $640 donation which was given to Fairway's charity, the Bill & Lilly Heinrich YMCA. The remodeling of the dealership should be completed by May and now Heinrich has their own dyno. Barrett-Jackson auctioned off the 2nd 2011 Camaro SS with the proceeds going to the YMCA and it raised $205,000. It was purchased by Heinrich Motor Sports.

George Euanthes was invited to the meeting by Sherrie because his banking group wants to help develop downtown Las Vegas and would like us to participate in an art/car show on Casino Center Drive. It will be on Saturday, after the First Friday downtown event, starting in 2-3 months. There will be a car show with trophies, people's choice, vendors and the artists will be voting on the People's Choice Award. We will get more information as it comes in.

The visiting Clark High School President, Vice-President and Senator presented gift cards to Pat Russell, Tom Skaggs, Jim Wolf and Lin Hoernke in appreciation for their participation in their Homecoming festivities.

Sally M. will be serving as Chairman of the Nominating Committee and Jim W. and Terry R. will be assisting her. The membership will be contacted to see if they would like to run for an office or if they would like to nominate someone for an office. Please say yes when they call.

Jim W's brother and sister-in-law were introduced.

A motion to approve the September meeting minutes was made by Nita R., 2nd by Bob O., motion carried.

Treasurer's Report review: Dave B. stated there are hard copies of the monthly report on the membership table outside the club meeting room and on our website. We have more income now that the dues payments are coming in.

Old Business: none

New Business:

Introduction of Prospective Members/New Members: Membership Chairman Ellie J. stated we currently have 230 members. There have been 143 dues renewals, and 8 will not be renewing so far. Guests attending tonight are: Paul & Elsa Madill, Tom Burdick (he and Deb rejoined tonight), Mike Rees, Sharon Boyd, Fred Dejong, Nicholas Euanthes, Peggy & Bubbico Anthony and from the British Columbia Corvette Club: Sue Romberg, Marie Wheway, Becky Gordon and Hilary Scarrotts. Receiving a plaque tonight was Bill Gass. Dues are due tonight!

By-Laws Presentation:

If there is anyone who would like to submit proposed changes of any of the Association's official documents, please find the form on our website and contact one of the members of the By-Laws Committee: Roy Hoernke, Frank Gagliardi or Terry Rees as soon as possible. Terry Presented one proposed By-Laws change to the membership: Article 5 Section 2 "Qualifications of Officers". The current reading (abbreviated here, please see your copy of the By-Laws or go to the Members Only section of our website) states that the qualification to become an officer in LVCA requires that you are to be a paid member in the club for 6 months. The recommended wording states that a person must be a member in good standing for 6 months with the exception of the two elected positions of Director. A member must have served on an elected position on the board or have been a member for 5 years before he can serve as Director. The pros for adopting this recommended change are that it will provide expertise to the President and E-Board, ensure continuity from year to year and ensures Directors are familiar with LVCA issues, concerns and governing rational. The con is that it will limit the number of potential candidates. The By-Laws Committee recommends adopting this proposal. It will be posted on the website for 30 days and the membership will vote on it at the November membership meeting.

Committee Reports:

Community Service: Terry R. stated in the last month we have participated in 2 Homecomings with another one tomorrow, the Tuacahn Run and the Fall Color Run. The UNLV Car Show, Monster Mash Car Bash, Suitcase Drive, Rally Olympics and more are coming up soon. You are to be applauded for your generosity.

Drag Series: Ken R. reported the series is done for the season and acknowledged the finalists and semi-finalists. To read all about this series, go to the Competition tab on our website and read Cathy W. description of these events.

Publicity: Jim W. stated the Helldorado Parade Committee has changed their policy and will now only allow 120 units to participate in the 2011 parade. So he has already sent in our application. Because there is a 2-3 hour wait between staging and the parade start, there will be some sort of potluck dinner next year.

Store: Storekeeper Linda B. said the store is selling a lot of items. The newest is a ladies long sleeve bling shirt, and sweatshirts with the logo embroidered on the front and Vegas Vettes on the back.

Sunshine: Sherrie reported for Lin H. that Jim L. is doing well after his knee surgery. Past member Jim Kroll passed away and his memorial is this Saturday. Past member Linda McCorkle's daughter passed away. Donna F. is OK after her SUV rollover on the way to Silver State.

Webmaster: Pat R. stated that he will no longer post photos of an event on the website as they are occurring because the photos could alert viewers to the fact that the participants are not currently at home. This could possibly pave the way for homes to be burglarized. He reminded Facebook users to protect your identity and don't post your birthday or let anyone other than your friends view you. Pat only has half of the member's cars on the website; please send him a photo of your vette. He also needs more Tech Tips. If you are having trouble logging on to the Members Only section or are having trouble sending him photos, please contact him.
