General Membership Meeting - May 13, 2010 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Sherrie Wood at 7:30 in the Paradise Café at the Las Vegas Hilton. There were 67 members and 15 guests present.
Gary Patterson from Shelby American Motorsports invited us to Gil Navarrez's new High Performance Center, Speed Shop and Dyno Tuning Center newly located at Shelby.

A motion to approve the April meeting minutes was made by Tommy D., 2nd by Don C., motion carried.
Treasurer's Report review: Dave B. stated that the quarterly audit has been performed and the books balanced. His software has been updated to QuickBooks 2010. May birthdays were announced and those members present received a free drink coupon courtesy of the Hilton.

Old Business: Sherrie read the results from the meeting location survey taken at the April general membership meeting: 61 members voted to stay at the Hilton in the Paradise Café, 22 voted to stay at the Hilton but move to another room, 5 voted for both of the above. There were 5 votes to move back to the Italian American Club, 2 for moving to another location, and 4 for both of the above. Due to the overwhelming consensus, we will continue to have our monthly membership meetings in the Paradise Café for the remainder of 2010.

New Business:
Introduction of Prospective Members/New Members: Membership Chairman Ellie J. welcomed back George M. who has been recovering from a kidney removal. Sal G. has almost completed his radiation treatments, still faces chemo. We have 223 members. Please make sure Ellie has your correct mailing information, because she is starting to address the dues statements. Dues for 2011 will be $107 for a couple, $61 for a single member. Guests attending tonight are: Steve Becker, Marcella & Rick Virtue, Mike Kerro, Jim & Vivian Cranston, Karen Mirto, Sharon Boyd, Michael Rees, Peggy Hegner, & Gary Patterson. Joining tonight are: Bill Thomas, Yvette Delaney & Ben & Donna del Villar. New members receiving their plaques tonight are: Jimmy & Brenda Cavallo, Gordon Schlatter, Jan Tucker & Stan Yoshihara.

By-Laws Committee: Roy H., Frank G., and Terry R. will be serving on the committee this year. They submitted the first set of revisions to the membership-punctuation and grammar changes only. Go to the website to review the changes and the membership will be asked to vote on them at the June meeting. Next month they will present actual by-laws changes.

Committee Reports: Community Service Chairman Terry R. reminded us of the Helldorado Parade this weekend. If you have an idea for an event and want to make it community service, please see her.

Drag Series: Ken R reported that the next drags will be on June 26th and announced the winners of the last drags. See the times on our website.

Store: Sherrie announced that there will be new items for sale in the store with the club logo on them like aprons, belt buckles, clocks, watches, & purses. They can be personalized, including having a photo your vette on them. It will not be necessary to have an inventory at the store; these items can be purchased individually so there will be no cost to the club. You can see what is available on our website. A motion to approve these new items to be sold at the store was made by Mark W., 2nd by Ken A., motion carried. Storekeeper Linda B. asked us to come over and see what new items she has for sale.

Sunshine: Lin H. announced that Rich T. is feeling better after his knee surgery, Agnes J is in between chemo treatments (she would love a phone call from you), past members Don & Dottie T. have good and bad days and congratulations to Robert, Kathy C.'s son who just graduated from college.

Events:
Past Events: Sherrie & Darrell passed out awards from their Scavenger Hunt April 17th. First place went to the Russell's & Rees, 2nd place to the Collins, 3rd place to the Klaizner's. The volunteers received beautiful mugs.

Upcoming Events: Jim W. announced that the Helldorado Parade will be May 15th, line up on 4th Street at 4:30. His June 4-7 New Mexico Trip has 10 cars signed up.

Corvette Roulette: Bonnie C. announced that there are 70 volunteers helping put on our largest event of the year. There will be an all volunteer meeting Thursday May 27th, 7pm in The Orleans' Salon A. You can pick up your volunteer t-shirts then. The event will be held May 28-30th at The Orleans & the registration fee for MEMBERS ONLY has been reduced to $45 per person. There will be great entertainment, food & decorations at the Friday Welcome Party and Sunday's Awards Banquet. You are also getting a great deal with two car shows for the price of one, five rallies for the price of one & two autocrosses with an exciting course. The theme this year is western, so come as your favorite cowboy or Indian if you wish. Proceeds will go to our sponsor's charity, the YMCA, & to St. Jude's Ranch for Children. Please not only register to participate, but donate raffle prizes as well. See Sami V. Don't miss out on the fun!

Sherrie stated that the first caravan will be leaving for the Big Bear Bash June 24th.
Please mark your calendars for a Mt. Charleston Runaway lunch July 10th. This will be a community service event.

Misc. Announcements: Sherrie & Darrell will be celebrating their 30th anniversary in June and therefore will not be having their monthly First Friday get-together. They have invited the membership to their party; the invitations are in the mail.
Carol G. announced 2 used vettes for sale at Fairway; the Stalians have their '09 for sale; Ken R. announced Corvette Night June 19th at the speedway and Scott M. discussed the Bonneville Race June 26th. They need course workers. Bob H. announced that there will be a golf tournament to benefit Henry's Place May 21st. William S. has an '86 for sale, 117,000 miles, new paint, wheels, tires for $6,000.

Clean Car Award: Larry L. and Gary L. judged the cars tonight and presented this month's award to Lennard G.
Badge Drawing: John M. would have won $25 if he was present. A $150 Hilton gift certificate was won by Scott M., and the 50/50 of $100 was won by Bob. O. Other raffle prizes won included cleaning products, Hilton apparel, LVCA dog tags, Fairway apparel, a water bottle, Corvette book cover, 35th anniversary book, and a custom Corvette model. Carl C. displayed the 2 paintings he and Bonnie are donating to Corvette Roulette signed by Ron Fellows and autographed by the drivers.

A Motion to Adjourn was made at 8:34 by Scott M., 2nd by Roy H., motion carried.
