General Membership Meeting - April 8, 2010 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Sherrie Wood at 7:35 in the Paradise Café at the Las Vegas Hilton. There were 84 members and 17 guests present.
Marcus from Progressive Choices, Inc. and our member Kim McCord invited us to participate in a Flapjack Fundraiser April 17th 8-10am at Applebee's on Charleston & Decatur. Proceeds will benefit developmentally disabled adults in the Las Vegas community. See Kim for tickets.
Introduction of Dominic Parisi from the Hilton: Dominic welcomed us back and stated the new table arrangement in the room can accommodate 140 people. He reminded us that there is also a casino in the building! The Hilton donated a $150 gift certificate to be used at the Hilton and a shirt for the raffle.
A motion to approve the March meeting minutes was made by Nancy L., 2nd by Greg W., motion carried.
Treasurer's Report review: Dave B. stated that next month the report will be more detailed to include profit from events, donations and how we are doing compared to the budget. April birthdays were announced and those members present received a free drink coupon courtesy of the Hilton.

Old Business: We have been contacted by the Italian American Club because they want us to come back and have our meetings there. A survey was passed out for members to vote on whether to say in the Paradise Café, move to a larger room in the hotel, move back to the IAC or look for another location. The results will be compiled and the membership notified next month.

New business: Because there are discrepancies in our official documents, Sherrie would like a total review of all of them. She has appointed Frank G. & Roy H. to serve on a by-laws committee. Referencing section and article, please submit your suggested revisions and suggestions in writing to them.

Introduction of Prospective Members/New Members: Ellie J. stated we have 217 members. Five year pins were awarded to Willy Salzmann and Melodie Huening tonight. Guests tonight are Sharon Boyd, Karen Mirto, Rick & Marcie Virtue, Russ Riner, Judy Harrison, Randy & Jan Watson, Jan Edwards, Brent Payne, Troy Dyer, Mark Sepe & Bill Thomas. Joining tonight are Brenda & Vincent Cavallo, Gordon Schlatter, Jan Tucker & Jim Miglore. Members receiving their plaques tonight are Cindy Fuller and Ralph Satterfield.

Committee Reports: Community Service Chairman Terry R. stated we have had 3 CS events so far this year: The St. Patrick's Day Parade, Wrangler's Night, and the IPOF car show. She is thrilled to be a part of a club that gives so much to the community. Drag Series: Ken R reported that the next drags will be on May 8th. If you are new to this, there are people to help you learn. Please read the NewsVetter article, go to our website & come out and watch us race.
National Corvette Museum Ambassador Greg W. stated that there are only 115 members of the museum in Nevada and encouraged everyone to join. There are discounts at the store, members programs, special events, raffles & they have build sheets for 81's and newer. Cost is $50 per person or $100 per family.
NewsVetter Editor Don C. asked us to please send him stories and photos of anything having to do with Corvettes. He would like to start a new article titled "Corvette Corner" but he has not received any submissions yet.

Publicity: Jim W. stated that we got a lot of publicity for LVCA & Corvette Roulette at the Ben & Jerry's free scoop day. In appreciation for all that LVCA has done for St. Jude's, we were asked us to bring our cars out to this event to help them not only draw attention to the ice cream, but to allow us to promote Corvette Roulette which in turn benefits St. Jude's. Ellie J. will be interviewed by Sun City Channel 99 on April 14th. She will promote LVCA & Corvette Roulette. The 2 mile Shootout at Nellis might happen. The Helldorado Parade will be May 15th, 7pm. This is a free community service event. Jim is planning a New Mexico trip June 4-7. We will be staying in a hotel with wigwam teepees; will visit the painted desert and a petrified forest and will meet up with the Espanola Corvette Club.
Racer's Edge chairman Bob M. stated that only 10 members have signed up for the program this year. He encouraged everyone to "take your car out and play with it." There are 8 events in the series: 2 autocrosses, 2 drags, 2 rallies & 2 Silver State races. You will take the total of your 6 highest scores and the highest male and female winners will be presented a beautiful leather jacket.
Sponsor Liaison Dale F. introduced Michael Klein who will be our new representative at Fairway.
Because this is the 5th and last year of our original Corvette Roulette commitment, Sherrie has appointed Dale F. to chair a feasibility committee to evaluate whether or not to continue to host this event. Members of this committee are Cathy W., Irene D., Sharron G., Bob O., and Ken R. They will gather statistical reports from past events and develop a survey which will be sent to all the membership. They will evaluate the results and let us know the results in June. When you receive your questionnaire, please respond within a week.
Store: Linda & Dave B. modeled denim jackets, a polo shirt, bling shirt, ladies visor and a man's baseball hat.
Sunshine: Lin H. asked for our assistance in letting her know of ill members. We are all family and she would like to send cards, flowers or make phone calls to let our members know we are thinking about them. George M. has had surgery, & Sal G. has cancer but has a good prognosis.

Events: Ken A. reminded us to take lots of photos at the events we attend and send them to the NewsVetter Editor.
Past Events: Benita K. reported that there were 27 vettes at the St. Patrick's Day Parade. Bob H. stated that 47 tickets were sold for the Wrangler's Night and $344 was raised for Henry's Place. He received a thank you letter from Henry's wife Dawn. The kid's camp is coming along nicely and there will be a golf tournament fund raiser May 21st. Lin reported that the IPOF Car Show was a successful event which helped raise funds for not only injured police officer's, but also for the family's when the officer passes away.

Upcoming Events: Sherrie discussed the Scavenger Hunt to be held on April 17th. It will start at the Hilton's parking garage, 5th floor and end at the Paradise Cafe. You will need to form teams, with 2-4 in each team and you don't have to drive your vette if you all want to ride together. There will be raffle prizes and awards. This is the only event scheduled for April, so please come out and join the fun.
The Nevada Open Road Race will be May 13-16 and Bob M. asked for more volunteers. We have been supporting this race for 15 years, which include the car show, the shootouts, pre & final grid, and final safety. You will get a free hotel room for 2 nights, drinks & small Friday night dinner if you volunteer.
Corvette Roulette: Chairman Bonnie C., registration chairman Carol G. & marketing chairman Sally M. all promoted this event & stated that this is going to be the largest community service club event all year. It will be held May 28-30th at The Orleans & the registration fee for MEMBERS ONLY has been reduced to $45 per person. That is only $22.50 per person per party, a very good deal. There will be great entertainment, food & decorations at the Friday Welcome Party and Sunday evening's Awards Banquet. You are also getting a great deal with 2 car shows for the price of one, 5 rallies for the price of 1 & Marvin will have 2 autocrosses with an exciting course. The theme this year is western, so come as your favorite cowboy or Indian if you wish. Proceeds will go to our sponsor's charity, the YMCA, & to St. Jude's Ranch for Children. So please not only register to participate, but donate raffle prizes as well.
Jim L. invited us to participate in the Corvette Cruise Night Car Show & Parade lap June 19th at the bullring at the LV Motor Speedway.

Corvette's West is hosting their annual Big Bear Bash June 25-27. LVCA event chairs Sherrie & Darrell W. will have a hospitality cabin at the Majestic Moose & are organizing activities for LVCA that differ from the event's schedule (if you prefer.) Please see the flyer for caravan departures & a detailed schedule of events.

Judi S. & Benita K. are co-hosting a Mexican Cruise Oct. 17-24. An inside room will cost $590, outside $690, & a balcony $790 per person which includes port taxes & the round trip bus to Long Beach. There will be a hospitality suite, Corvette racing, t-shirt & a party. First deposit of $250 per person is due May 10th. The $35 party fee will be paid directly to LVCA. Ports of call will be Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan & Puerto Vallarta. You can park your vehicle in Benita's gated backyard for the week.

Misc. Announcements: Bonnie C. reported that we have been invited to participate in Corvettes of Temecula Valley's Car Show May 2nd. They are supporting Corvette Roulette so please come & support them-there will be wine! Sally M. reminded us that she will be having her Labor Day Get-away event this year. David G. announced his parents will be celebrating their 39th anniversary next week. Denise K. asked us to save Sept. 25th for a Tuacahn Run to the outdoor theater in St. George, Utah. Jim W. announced that there will be an autocross at Nellis the end of September.

Clean Car Award: Larry L presented this month's award to Gary L. Badge Drawing: Don F. won $30 & Ken D. won $141 in the 50/50 raffle. A $150 Hilton gift certificate, a hotrod Central t-shirt, a bad to the bone key chain, LVCA watch, Bad to the Bone stickers & tote bag and a Hilton polo shirt were the raffle prizes for the evening.
