General Membership Meeting - March 11, 2010 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Sherrie W. at 7:37pm in the Paradise Café at the LV Hilton. There were 85 members and 23 guests present. Dominic Parisi, our new member and Hilton Director of Specialty Restaurants, welcomed us. They are having a Tequila tasting event throughout the meeting and he asked if we minded having wine and beer tasting opportunities in the future. He contributed a $150 gift certificate and articles of clothing to the raffle prizes.
A motion to approve the February meeting minutes was made by Darrell W., 2nd by Scott M., motion carried. Dave B. reviewed the Treasurer's Report. You can view it on our website in the Member's Only section. March birthdays were announced and each member attending received a free drink coupon courtesy of the Hilton.

New Business: Introduction of Prospective Members/New Members: Ellie J. stated we have 212 members, not including those that joined tonight. Don Lovell was welcomed back. Guests tonight are: Rick Virtue, Brian & Chris Wolfe, Willie Jenkins, Randy & Jan Watson, Vincent & Brenda Cavallo, Ben & Donna del Villar, David & Gay Oku, Jeff Crusham & Tami Worpell, Louise Wynne, Yvette Delaney, Gordon Schlatter & Sharon Yoshihara. Joining tonight are Mike & Marsha Borders & Stan Yoshihara. Re-joining tonight are John & Cindy Fuller. Steve Dana, Tom Thowsen & Skip Kelley were presented their membership plaques. Jan Tucker, Steve's new wife was introduced.

In an effort to meet our guests, invite them to our events and to make them feel more welcomed at the meetings, Sherrie announced that Dawn G., Ali W., Vickie C., Sally M. and Deb L. will be serving as Courtesy Ambassadors. They will greet guests and escort them to seats next to someone who lives in the same part of the valley as they do.

Committee Reports:
Community Service: Terry R. announced the three community service events in March-St. Patrick's Day Parade, Wrangler's Night and the IPOF Car Show. She will be listing our points standing quarterly in the NewsVetter. If you are interested in hosting a community service event, please see Terry.
Drag Series: Ken R. reported that the first drag event of the year had 10 cars. There will be 5 events throughout the year. Plaques were presented to Jim Gregorio & Jim LeMar.
NCCC Governor Carl H. reminded us of a People's Choice Car Show May 2nd hosted by Corvettes of Temecula Valley. He suggested we consider attending Bloomington Gold. You can view other NCCC events on our website.
NewsVetter Editor Don C. is creating 2 new articles for the Vetter this year. His first "Members Garage" article featured Richard & Louise Yokshus. He will also be initiating a "Corvette Corner" which members will submit stories of past events, how they re-built their vette, anything to do with a Corvette. If you are going to tell a story about a member, he asked that you get their permission first. Photos that go along with the article would be nice also.

Publicity: Jim W. reminded us of the St. Patrick's Day Parade and the Helldorado Parade May 15th at 7pm. Both are great opportunities to advertize LVCA. He is working on a 2 mile shootout at Nellis. The fastest speed winner of the day will be able to race an F15. The Poppy Run has been cancelled and the New Mexico trip will be the 1st weekend in June.

Racer's Edge: Bob M. announced that not too many members have signed up for RE yet. Points are collected all year and the top point-getter for men and women are awarded a leather jacket. There are 2 drags, 2 auto crosses, 2 rallies, and 2 open road races in the RE series. The cost is $30 for the year and 1st through 3rd place trophies are awarded for each event.

Sponsor Liaison: Dale F. announced that Don K. is no longer working at Fairway Chevrolet and his replacement has not been announced. Greg Heinrich is still committed to being LVCA's sponsor, is still offering club member discounts and looks forward to the October car show.

Store: Linda & Dave modeled visors, shirts, denim jackets and hats.

Sunshine: Lin H. announced that "Dave", the motorcycle metro officer is back to work. We participated in a fund raising event for him last year to help defray his medical bills. Debbie C.'s father passed away, as well as Deb L.'s father. Welcome back to Don L.

Upcoming Events:
Benita discussed the St. Patrick's Day Parade this Saturday. She is also organizing a 7 day Mexican Riviera cruise Oct. 17-24 for $625 per person inside, $725 per person outside & $825 per person balcony. Ports of call will be Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta & Cabo San Lucas. She needs 40 people to sign up or it will be cancelled.

Wrangler's Night will be March 20th reported Bob H. This community service event will benefit Henry's Place, a camp for at-risk kids. Bob has arranged for our own parking lot at The Orleans with security.

IPOF Car Show: Roy H. announced this will be March 28th and will be a community service event to help raise funds for injured police officers & their families in Las Vegas, Henderson & Pahrump. Turn in your applications directly to the IPOF.

Scavenger Hunt: Sherrie & Darrell W. are hosting this event April 17th. You are encouraged to form teams of 2-4 people. You will need a digital camera with a removable memory card. The starting location will be at the Hilton 5th floor garage and the ending location will be at the Paradise Café. Cost is $5, non-members $7.

NV Open Road Challenge: Bob M. encouraged members to sign up to work at this May 14-16th 90 mile race. We help put on the car show, the ½ & 1 mile shootouts, pre-grid & final grid & final safety. Workers get a free hotel room in Ely and LVCA receives $19 per person, approximately $500.

Corvette Roulette 2010: Bonnie C. described all of the events that will be offered at our 5th annual event. The People's Choice car show is free when you register for the Concours car show. The rallye will have 5 events in 1 and there will be 2 autocrosses. Friday night's Welcome Party and Sunday night's Awards Banquet will have great buffet meals and entertainment. LVCA members ONLY will receive $30 per person off their registration. The new price is $45 per person for both parties.

Misc. Announcements: Curt M. has a Corsa C6 cross pipe & mufflers for sale. Skip K. announced a Super Chevy Show with drags, autocross and a car show next weekend at the LV Motor Speedway. Vickie C. says there is a new ladies group being formed called the "Hot Chicks". They will meet for lunch the last Wednesday of the month, 11:30 at the Paradise Café, next door to our meeting room, starting March 31st. Jim W. announced that anyone wishing to caravan to the St. Patrick's Day Parade meet at the K-Mart parking lot on Rancho & Craig, depart 8:15am.
Mike Borders reported on the Mojave Mile event. Scott M's, best run was 162mph, Angel Y. at 180.5, Cathy W. at 156.5 and Roy H. at 165.7. Scott and Roy were presented awards for racing closest to their target times. The next Mojave Mile event will be Sept. 25-26.
Bill M. announced that Kim's company, Progressive Choices, located at Charleston & Decatur, is having a fundraiser April 17th for $10 per person. Sally M. said her Labor Day Getaway event will be held this year.

Clean Car Award: Larry L. presented this month's plaque to Glenda L.
Badge Drawing: Karan A. would have won if she were present.
50/50: $104 was won by Jim L.
Raffle prizes: A $150 Hilton dinner certificate, Bad to the Bone tote bag, Boy Scout popcorn, Corvette Black book, Hilton hat, Bad to the Bone mouse pad, Bad to the Bone Mirror, skull decals and a Hilton t-shirt were awarded.
