The
meeting was called to order by Vice-President Sherrie Wood at 7pm with 84 members
and 12 guests present. President Connie Gentry is in Phoenix at the NASCAR race.
Treasurer's Report review: Please go to the Member's Only section of our
website for a copy of this report. Budget of Sponsorship Funds: Because
sponsorship monies were not budgeted in for the year, our treasury has a $10,000
overage not accounted for. We will have to pay taxes on it so the e-board has
made the following recommendations to reduce the overage. Donate $2,500 to our
sponsor's charity, the YMCA; donate $2,500 to St. Jude's, our current charity;
allocate $2,000 to the 2009 Awards Banquet in January 2010 and allocate $3,000
to Corvette Roulette 2010. Carl C. made a motion to approve, Rich M. 2nd, there
was no discussion and all approved. Fairway
Car Show: Greg Heinrich, our sponsor and owner of Fairway Chevrolet, thanked
everyone for their support of the October 11th all Chevy car show. It was a great
success thanks to all of the participants and workers. Because of the great relationship
we have going, Greg is proud to be a part of our group and announced that Fairway
Chevrolet will continue to be our sponsor in 2010. Mike Luby, President of all
the YMCA's in Las Vegas also thanked everyone for their generosity and noted that
over $8,200 was raised from the car show. With gratitude and much appreciation
he presented a plaque to the club. Sherrie then presented Greg with a $2,500 check
to the YMCA. Homecoming Presentations: Clark High School Student Advisor
Brian Rayfelt and Student Body President Abby Pancoast thanked Connie G., Holley
H., Pat R., and Lin H. for participating in the half-time Homecoming ceremonies.
They were presented a gift certificate to Starbuck's. Italian American Club
(IAC) Manager Introduction: Ulises Fernandez thanked us for choosing the IAC as
our meeting location and he wants to make our evening as pleasant as possible.
Sherrie reminded everyone that if you have suggestions for the buffet, comments
or complaints, please contact Secretary Carol G. our IAC liaison. Approval
of the October Meeting Minutes was made by Bob O., 2nd by Nita R., all approved.
Old Business: none New Business: Due to their financial situation,
the IAC is no longer able to offer us free birthday drink tickets. In its place,
each member attending on his/her birthday month will receive a free 50/50 raffle
ticket. Introduction of Prospective Members/New Members: Membership
Chairman Ellie J. stated we have 241 members. Guest tonight were Elaine Mather,
TC & Belinda McNett, Douglas Krawiec; Tom Thowson; Ralph Satterfield; Bruce
Homis, Dr. Ponchita Lopez, Carmen Campos, Sharon Boyd and Frank & Sandy Lewis.
Membership plaques were presented to Mark & Fran Klein. Nominating
Committee: Chairman Sally M. presented the slate of officers and then took
nominations from the floor. President: Sherrie Wood, with no nominations from
the floor; Vice-President: Kathy Clapp, with no nominations from the floor; Secretary:
Carol Gagliardi with no nominations from the floor; Treasurer: Dave Benton with
no nominations from the floor: Director: Darrell Wood and no nominations from
the floor. Roy H. made a motion to close the nominations for 2010 officers, 2nd
by Don K., all approved. Committee
Reports: Sunshine: Sally reported that Walt Welch had a 5 way heart by-pass;
Anne Marie Thompson has a new grandson; Don Lovell is having another cataract
surgery and hopes to be back in the club by January; Tom and Jeanne Skaggs celebrated
their 26th anniversary yesterday and Kim McCord will be a Grandmother in May.
Sally read thank you notes from Sandy B., Louise Y. and Jim G. NCCC Governor
Carl H. reminded everyone that he still has West Coast Region First Place champion
patches free for each member. The NCCC points standing are on the website. There
will be a Suitcase Drive for Child Haven at the December meeting. Racer's Edge
Chairman Bob M. presented Silver State trophies to Tom S., Curt M., &
Cathy W. Oct. 3rd Drags trophies to himself for 1st place; Curt M. 2nd place and
Jim L. 3rd place. The MTT Autocross winners were: Curt M., 1st; Bob M. 2nd and
Cathy W., 3rd. The last event in the Racer's Edge Series will be the Rallye on
November 14th. Store: Vicki C. had models show us what coats she still
has left in her inventory. Webmaster Pat R. said just about everyone is
able to read the NewsVetter online now. Telephone Chairman Jeff B's email link
directly to the NewsVetter seems to be working. Pat reminded everyone that past
NewsVetters are online in the Members Only section, as well as the Treasurer's
Report and the meeting minutes. He needs photos of member's cars and tech tips.
Community Service: Deb L. said year end points will be on the website soon
and in the December NewsVetter. There have been 11 Community Service events so
far this year. Past
Events: The Oct. 11th Fairway Car Show report was given by Dale F.
& Don K. Thanks for making it a success and "saving Don Kot's life".
Don was worried that no one would show up, and we proved him very wrong. He was
excited that Greg H. decided to continue to be LVCA's sponsor. Thanks to all who
worked and participated in the car show and $8,256 was raised for the YMCA. The
total went over $10,000 with tonight's check. Wine & Cheese Party
Oct. 17th: Jim W. thanked everyone who helped and the 108 people who participated.
Ali W. got a standing ovation for all of her work. The Pasadena Bus Trip Jan.
2nd to see the Rose Parade floats will cost $30 per person if there are 50 people.
With the number of people signed up as of now, the tickets are going to cost $60
per person. Monster Mash Car Bash Oct. 24th: Ken A. reported that there
were over 100 cars at the Hilton, and 20 LVCA members participated. Vic H., Jim
F., Jim W., Kathy C. and Spiderman won awards for their decorated cars and costumes.
Sally M. reported that the Sonic Drive-in for Teens Nov. 10th collected
lots of donations and she will continue to take donations at the December membership
meeting. Upcoming
Events: Rallye Olympics: Don C. said registration will be at 9:30,
driver's meeting at 10 and the finish line will be at Timbers at Craig and Tenaya.
The Comedy Stop will be Nov. 20th at the Sahara Hotel reported Ken A. Come
out for a night of laughter. Coat & Blanket Drive Nov. 22nd: Sharron
G. invited us to brunch at her home including mimosas and Darrell's biscuits and
gravy. Dyno Shootout Dec. 12th: Ken R. said come out and see what the horsepower
is on your vette. Don J. said Agnes is cooking up chili and wild rice soup for
the Cookie Exchange Dec. 13th. Bring 3 ½ dozen cookies to share,
take 3 dozen home. The New Year's Eve Party Dec. 31st will be at Dawn & Jim
G.'s home. It will be potluck, BYOB with games, prizes and a champagne toast.
There will also be a best dish contest. Las Vegas Cruisin Association is hosting
Mesquite Motor Mania Jan. 15-17 reported Bill M and over 1,000 cars are
expected. There will be $1,500 in cash prizes & awards and 260 trophies. Registration
fee is $70; hotel is $11.18 a night. The Annual Awards Banquet Jan. 23rd
will be at the Texas Station announced Sherrie W. There will be special Corvette
parking in the garage, and a walkway will take us to the elevator to the banquet
area. The theme will be "Denim & Diamonds". Miscellaneous
Announcements: Carol G. read a thank you note from Rancho High School for
our participation in their Homecoming Halftime festivities. Jo K. announced that
she is participating in a 5K walk for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
Nov. 14th and has raffle tickets for sale. Cathy W. thanked Willie S., Pat R.,
Jim L. and Jim G. for fixing her serpentine belt so she could participate in the
Drags. Friends helping friends, that's what this club is all about. Ken R. has
'02 tires for sale. Greg W. is taking names of members who would like to participate
in the Motor Trend International Car Show Thanksgiving weekend. They have
asked us for 10 show quality Corvettes, he has 9 so far. This is not a club sanctioned
event, and Motor Trend will select the cars from their photos. Clean Car
Award: Larry L. and Mark W. judged the cars and selected Jim Alksnis as this
month's winner. Badge Drawing: Myron Krawchuk would have won $35 if he was present.
50/50: Marvin M. won $104. Merchandise Raffle: winners were
