The meeting was called
to order at 7:30 pm in the Italian American Club by President Connie Gentry.
There were 90 members and 12 guests present. Connie called for a moment
of silence in remembrance of the tragedy on September 11th. She then read
a message and showed photos she received from the person who stole her
bowling ball. Approval of the August meeting minutes was made by
Nancy L., 2nd by Tommy D., all approved. Lennard gave a briefing on the
Treasurer's Report. We are running consistent with the budget and
you can review the report on our website.
New Business: September birthdays were acknowledged and those present
received a drink coupon courtesy of the Italian American Club.
The Fairway Car Show will be held October 11th and Don K. passed
around a volunteer sign-up sheet. Please contact him or Dale F. if you
can help. EVERYONE was asked to donate a raffle prize for the show;
please bring them to the meeting next month. They will be assembling 200
goodie bags & there will be 3 major raffle prizes: a GM engine, 20"
wheels & tires and dinner and show tickets at the Golden Nugget.
PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSOR!
Introduction of
Prospective Members/New Members: Ellie J. thanked Lin H. and Carol
G. for taking care of membership while she was gone over the summer. There
were 236 members prior to the meeting. Dues notices were mailed out September
1st and dues must be received by October 15th or you will have to pay
a late fee of $15. If you have any address changes or new car information
please get them to Ellie now. She has a beautiful '06 Z06 brochure to
give away. Guests tonight are Jerry Powell, Stan Yosahara & Sharon,
Mark & Fran Klein, Greg Jolley, Dominic Parisi, Skip Kelley &
Sam Lovecchio. Mark Wynne and Chuck & Jennifer Searle joined tonight.
There were no plaques to present.
Corvette Roulette 2010: Connie announced that Bonnie Corbett has
agreed to chair this event again next year. To secure Memorial Day weekend
at The Orleans, a $500 deposit is required. Carl C. made the motion to
approve this deposit, Mark W., 2nd, all approved.
Committee Reports: Ken R. reported on the Drag Race Series.
He presented a plaque to Darrell W. for getting a perfect dial-in time
at the August drags. The final drags will be October 3rd. See the website
for the current standings.
NCCC Governor Carl H. reported that he still has free 2008 West
Coast Region First Place patches, one for each member. We are not doing
quite as well in points as last year, we currently have 622. Sherrie W.
and Kathy C. are tied for 26th place in the West Coast Region (and first
place in LVCA) with 32 points each. Darrell W. is in 7th place in the
Region and first place in LVCA with 66 points. To give you an idea of
how many events it takes to win, the NCCC overall first place men's winner
in 2008 attended 286 NCCC sanctioned events and accrued 3,015 points!
The total points LVCA earned in 2008 is 2,263. Current total points for
LVCA members are on our website. Carl reminded everyone that the NCCC
dues we are about to pay covers our liability insurance. In addition,
our membership gives us more opportunities to compete in rallyes, car
shows and autocrosses and lots of opportunities to make contacts and new
friendships throughout the southwest.
Racer's Edge: Bob M. reminded the membership of the Silver State
race Sept. 18-20. We have been working these races for 15 years and Bob
received $475 for the club from working at the May race. Marvin M. discussed
the autocross October 18th at the Speedway and Don Collins, a new
member, discussed the Rally-Olympics on November 14th. Please sign
up to volunteer and participate.
Store: Vickie C. displayed the 4 colors of men's camp shirts for
sale.
Sunshine: Sally M. announced that Mike Goldwasser and Rene Murphy
got married and Don Lovell is back in assisted living. She read thank
you notes from Bonnie and Rich Masluk and Dave Benton for the flowers
we sent them. Cathy Wilson lost her father a few months ago and just lost
her mother.
Past Events: Bonnie C. asked us all to think about putting on an
event to help sponsor those charities in need. The NCCC Convention
in Colorado Springs was a big success with 500 Corvettes attending. Our
club shirts were well received & they received many compliments on
Corvette Roulette. Janice G. described and sent around photos of the table
centerpiece and placemats that she, Jim G, Bonnie & Carl C. created
for the centerpiece competition. The rules of competition required the
centerpieces to include the name of your club, the city, what year you
joined NCCC, what activities your town and club are noted for (gambling,
drinking, Elvis, Marilyn, Frank, Evil jumping at Caesars, a bride and
groom, drag racing, auto crossing, road racing & car shows.) They
also had to use car parts and duct tape in creative ways. They won 2nd
place and the award was a custom-colored C5 or C6 car cover. It was decided
to sell raffle tickets at the Sept/Oct/Nov. meetings and have the winning
drawing at the December membership meeting. All proceeds from this raffle
will go to St. Jude's Ranch. Jim G. described the car show; he and Janice
entered their '61 and won! Jim remarked how unbelievable it was that NCCC
did not follow their own classifying and judging rules. Jim stated LVCA's
judges are much better.
Connie reported that The Sunbelt Auto Collection Tour was a lot
of fun with two garages full of convertibles, trucks and motorcycles and
original movie posters.
Upcoming Events: Ken K. spoke on behalf of Denise K. about the Tuacahn
Run 9/26-27. We are looking for convertibles for Rancho and Clark High
School Homecomings Oct. 2nd. You will drive a princess and her escort
past the grandstands during halftime at their football games. Ken R. is
coordinating Rancho's and Sally is coordinating Clark's homecoming if
you can volunteer. Pat R. reported that due to an overwhelming response,
the Barrett Jackson Parade down the Strip Oct. 7th has been closed. They
got their 50 participants before we could submit our application. Pat
has flyers for the car show & how to enter. The NewsVetter
was put on the website today including flyers for all of our events. Dale
F. reminded everyone that raffle prizes from everyone are needed for the
Fairway Car Show Oct. 11th and reminded everyone to bring them to the
October membership meeting. There will be a meeting for all volunteers
the week before the show. The 3rd annual Wine & Cheese Party
will be Oct. 17th, hosted by Jim & Ali Wolf. Donations will to go
to Muscular Dystrophy. There will be a poker caravan first. Jim asked
for a show of hands who would be interested in taking a bus to Pasadena
Jan. 2nd from 8am to 8pm to see the floats on display. There would need
to be 50 people to rent a bus, at $30 per person. By a show of hands,
there was not enough interest to pursue this event, but later it was decided
to let everyone think about it for another month.
Jeff B. announced that we have been invited to participate in the Monster
Mash Car Bash on October 24th at the Las Vegas Hilton. This is the
largest Halloween car show event in Southern Nevada. Proceeds will go
to FAST-Finding Autistic Solutions for Tomorrow, children's scholarship
programs for specialized autistic schools. We are asked to wear costumes
and decorate all around our vettes. There will be Trunk & Treating
for charity. Prospective member Dominic P. promoted the Hilton and all
of the amenities they will offer.
We have an opportunity for fundraising courtesy of the Comedy Stop
Nov. 20th at the Sahara Hotel & Casino reported Jeff B. The cost
of the tickets is $30 per person. The Comedy Stop gets $15 and the other
$15 will go to a local food bank. Bring your friends, too.
The annual Cookie Exchange on Dec. 13th will be held at Don &
Agnes Jiran's home reported Eve G. Cost is $3 for members/$5 for non-members,
bring 3 ½ dozen cookies.
Miscellaneous Announcements: Ken R. discussed the confusion in
registering his '09 on-line with the DMV and cautioned us that their software
is wrong. They do not make a distinction between a coupe, conv., Z06 or
a ZR1 and you will be charged for a Z06 now and every year there after.
Be sure to compare fees by entering in the VIN and then compare it to
the MSRP to see if the fees are the same. Prospective member Skip Kelley
announced that he is in a band and invited everyone to come see him at
the Santa Fe Sept. 26th.
Clean Car Award: Roy H. & David G. judged the cars tonight
and the winner was Ken R.
Badge Drawing: Willie S. would have won if he hadn't left the meeting
early, so $35 will be awarded next month.
50/50: $118 was won by Patrick N. Many raffle prizes were won.
Motion to adjourn: Connie wanted to discuss the properties of internal
combustion engines, but was interrupted by Terry R. who made a motion
to adjourn, 2nd by Roy H., all approved at 9:04.
Respectfully Submitted,
Carol Gagliardi
