The meeting was called
to order by President Connie Gentry at 7:30 pm at the Italian American
Club. There were 67 members and 14 guests present.
Misc. Announcements: Connie's Mt. Charleston Get Away event netted
$265 which will be donated to the Mt. Charleston Volunteer Fire Department.
Connie asked that this amount be increased to $500. Jim W. made the motion,
Jim G. 2nd and all approved to increase the donation to $500. Luke Ham,
a volunteer fireman accepted our check with much appreciation. Ron P.
introduced Paul Forrester, a Corvette owner and member of the Rotary Club.
He was selling raffle tickets for a '66 vette with matching numbers. The
drawing will be in October.
Approval of July's
meeting minutes was made by Greg W., 2nd by Craig C., all approved.
Lennard G. stated that the Treasurer's Report is posted on the
website. He closed our savings account as it was costing us more to keep
it open than we were earning on it. He also stated that he will not be
running for Treasurer in 2010.
Old Business:
there was no old business.
New Business: Connie read the list of August birthdays and those
present received a free drink courtesy of the Italian American Club.
Introduction of Prospective Members/New Members: Substituting for
Ellie J., Lin H. introduced Luke Ham, Henry Grodzinsky, Paul Forrester,
Robert & Judith Martin, Jim & Karen Conley, Chuck & Jennifer
Searle, Jamal & Princess Hodges, Skip Kelly. (Arriving after Lin spoke
were Ed Neumann and Sam Lovecchio.) Our dues statements will be mailed
September 1.
Fairway Sponsorship: Don K. announced that the Calloway Corvette
he talked about last month was purchased by Roy H. Fairway is still in
business. There will be sign ups for the October 11th Fairway Chevrolet
Car Show next month. Don needs assistance with parking, raffle tickets
and cooking. Doug E. will be the MC. Please everyone donate raffle prizes
for this event. Dale F. will be the chairman on LVCA's side.
Jerry & Kathy Zill, long time members of LVCA are selling their 40th
anniversary.
Second Quarter Audit: Connie reviewed the books and all is well.
Lennard is doing an outstanding job.
Committee Reports:
Racer's Edge chairman Bob M. said he had all the volunteers he needs for
Silver State.
Drag Series: Ken R. encouraged everyone to come out to the Sept.
29th and October 3rd drags. Store: Vickie C. now has bling shirts with
larger stones. Her monthly raffle prize will be won by anyone wearing
a Corvette-related shirt.
Webmaster Pat R. said he is not getting any complaints. He needs
items in the For Sale section and also wants more info to be put in the
Tech Tips section. There is a link to the Sunbelt Auto Museum on our website.
There will be a 1st Annual Road Rallye down Las Vegas Blvd. Wednesday
October 7th in conjunction with the Barrett Jackson auction that week.
For anyone who participates in the parade, they will receive 4 free three
day passes to the auction.
Sunshine: Sally M. announced that Dale & Donna F. are great-grandparents
for the 2nd time, Kari & Jim A. are expecting their first child and
Sally is going to be a great grandmother in December. Rich and Bonnie
Masluk's daughter passed away.
Past Events:
Connie announced that there were 30 vettes and 55 people at the Mt.
Charleston Get Away and Earlene K. said 50 people attended the Las
Vegas 51's Night. John R. got to throw out the first pitch. She thanked
Jim W. for all of his assistance in putting this event on. Next year she
will try to have the event in May.
Upcoming Events:
Sign up tonight for the August 15th Sunbelt Auto Collection Tour.
Denise K. explained the weekend's schedule for the September 26-27th Tuacahn
Run. The poker run on the way up will be a community service event
benefiting St. Jude's. She needs a head count now and final payment no
later than the Sept. meeting.
The 3rd annual Wine & Cheese Party at Jim and Ali Wolf's will
be on October 17.
Roy H. introduced Sam who was the previous owner of the Calloway Corvette
that he bought. Roy also discussed the Sandhills Open Road Race in Arnold,
Nebraska that he and Tom H. participated in. Roy won 3rd place, Tom 1st
place in their respective speed categories. Unfortunately on his return
leg, at 138 mph, Tom spun off the road, took out 200' of fencing including
7 poles. Tom is OK, his car is in the shop….
Clean Car Award:
Greg W. and Bob P. were the judges tonight. Congratulations to Roy H.
for winning this month's award.
Badge Drawing: $25 would have been presented to Bernell T. if he
were present. Next month the award will be $30.
50/50: $84 was won by Terry R.
Merchandise Raffles: Prizes included polishing cloths, hats, a beautiful
gift basket and a Memory Book from the store. They were won by Connie
G., John M., Darrell W., Lee M. and Donna F.
