The April
meeting was called to order by President Connie Gentry at 7:35pm in the
Kohinoor Dining Facility. There were 92 members present. A Motion to
approve the March meeting minutes was made by Anne T., 2nd by Rich
T., all approved. The Treasurer's Report will be on our website shortly.
Remember to read both the minutes and Treasurer's Report before coming
to the meeting.
New Business: Birthday dessert coupons were handed out while Ellie
J. introduced our Prospective Members: Don & Janis Collins, Kevin
Gillespie, Jim Melsek and new members Elliott & Earleen Kraus. We
now have 230 members.
Fairway Chevrolet Sponsor Liaison and member Don K. said they are
looking at a Sunday in October for our car show. The proceeds will
go to Fairway's charity, the YMCA.
NewsVetter Editor Replacement: This is Kathy's last year as Editor
of the NewsVetter and she would like anyone interested in taking over
for her next year to let her know and she will work with you now for a
smooth transition. She uses Publisher to create the NewsVetter and it
is a very easy computer program to learn. This position is a voting member
on E-board. If you have an ad and would like to run it again next year,
please let Kathy or Lennard know. New
Meeting Location: Benita K. presented an agreement with the Italian
American Club at 2333 E. Sahara, just east of Eastern and very close
to Fairway Chevrolet. It is centrally located, there will be no room charge,
they will offer a $10 all-inclusive Italian buffet and the meeting room
and parking lot are large. The membership voted to move our monthly
meetings to The Italian American Club.
Committee Reports: NCCC Governor Carl H. said to disregard what
you were told last meeting about the new insurance requirements. There
will be no changes this year. He did stress the importance of signing
the waivers at every event. He passed out West Coast Champion patches
to every member present (every member gets one). If you want extra patches,
you can buy them in the store for $1. If you ordered a 50th anniversary
pin from NCCC, they are also at the store. There are 6 pins left for sale
at $5 each. Carl unrolled the NCCC West Coast Region Champion banner for
all to see.
Racer's Edge/Silver State: Bob M. stated that he needs more people
to sign up for the Racer's Edge Program as currently there are only 16.
He also needs volunteers for Silver State. If you volunteer, your
room will be paid for, along with the Friday night welcome reception.
Store: Vicki C. displayed the new bling shirts that are now available.
They come in many colors with either Vegas Vettes or LVCA
in bling. Rich T. modeled the new denim jacket. Sunshine: Carol G. announced
for Sally M. that Rex Wilhoite is a new Grandfather. His son Jeremy and
wife had a baby boy born on April 1st. Webmaster Pat R. discussed
the For Sale section of our website. There are 3 ads there now, he would
like more and you can email him the information and photos.
Past Events: The St. Patrick's Day Parade was a lot of fun
Benita K. reported and we are planning on doing it again next year. Wrangler's
Night: The team won, the half-time show was great and the Presidential
Bowling Ball (still missing since the Awards Banquet), was also there.
Too bad Connie can never find it….. Larry D. reported that the The
Injured Police Officer's Fund Car Show received $570 donated by our
club and an additional $100 was collected by Lin H. later. We had 11 LVCA
cars participate and there was a large variety of cars along with Metro's
displays. One of the raffle prizes was a ride in a Metro helicopter. The
Volkswagen Club won the Most Club Participation Award.
Upcoming Events: Jeff B. discussed the Poppy Run April 24-26.
There will be parties and a 2 day poker run. Drag Series: Jim L.,
speaking for Ken R., discussed the Drag Series program and the first race
will be on April 25th. Race for the Cure May 2nd: Deb L. said you
don't have to break a sweat to earn a community service point, just pay
$5. Corvette Roulette May 22-24: Bonnie reminded everyone that
the club voted to continue this exciting event and we need everyone's
support, both with your registration and your help volunteering. Friday
night's entertainment at the Welcome Party will be The Goodfellows. Saturday
is the Car Show and Rallye. Sunday will be the Autocrosses and the Awards
Banquet. Please get your registrations in as soon as possible. Fun
Run to Yosemite June 19-22: Linda B. said the registration fee is
$140 which includes Friday dinner, Saturday tour, lunch and raffle prizes.
The NCCC Convention August 8-14 in Colorado Springs will have a
30 car caravan coming from Southern California if you want to hook up
with them reported Bonnie. There will be a southern route and a scenic
route.
Miscellaneous Announcements: Benita K. announced a free auto detailing
seminar tomorrow put on by 3D Products at their shop at 2915 Losee Road
Suite 101, NLV. She is looking for any new members to organize
2 charity events: one for Safenest and the other for St. Jude's Hospital.
Please let Carl H. know if you have not received your NCCC 2009
package with your new membership card in it. You can use last year's card
until you do.
Clean Car Award: Larry presented this month's award to Jim Gregorio,
but it was really a piece of paper with IOU written on it. Jim will have
to wait for his plaque because Larry's order had not arrived. Badge Drawing:
Janet Lowman would have won $25 if she was present. 50/50: $113 was won
by Judy Hastings. Raffle prizes were won by Lee M., Sharron G., Ken A.
TWICE, and Darrell W. Sherry W. announced that if you win the question
in her NewsVetter article, your prize will be 5 free raffle tickets for
the next meeting.
