General Membership Meeting - February 12, 2009 - Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Connie Gentry at 7:30 in the Kohinoor Dining Facility. There were 92 members and 6 guests present. Connie reminded everyone to pick up their commemorative necklaces with the "get out of jail free" card.
Miscellaneous Announcements: Moved to the beginning of the meeting as we were expecting a guest speaker. Bonnie Corbett stated that The Kiwanis of Las Vegas have invited us to tour Jim Roger's World-Renown Sunbelt Auto Collection Museum March 14th from 6-9 pm. Cost will be $20 per person, with hors d'oeuvres and light spirits. This event conflicts with our already-scheduled Wrangler's Night. Gene Stalians spoke on his April 6th cruise for a private tour of the Western White House of Ronald Reagan near Santa Barbara. The tour and lunch on the 7th is limited to 28 people, will cost $50; hotel and other meals will be extra. Call Gene or Sandy for more information and for the number of the hotel. Sharron Grodzinsky, Chairman for the American Heart Association's Heart Ball, invited us to help sponsor this event. Tables are $5,000 each, individual tickets are $500 each. Mrs. Nimi Mann, co-owner of the Kohinoor Dining facility, welcomed us and stated they want to make us happy. The restaurant is open next door with a full bar. Our meeting room should have a full bar up and running next month. Carl Hastings stated that Don Lovell has Charlene's red LVCA jacket which he would like someone to have. There will be an auction next month for the jacket, with proceeds going to our charity St. Jude's Ranch. Bruce Mayer, a representative from Findlay Chevrolet, invited us to visit the dealership, their master technicians are there to help with your cars. They are located at South Rainbow & 215. Sherrie Wood stated she knows of a '94 and a '95 for sale, $10,300 each. Carol Gagliardi read thank you letters from St. Jude's Ranch for Children and The Muscular Dystrophy Association for our generous contributions in 2008. Motion to approve the January meeting minutes made by Wanda McCurry, seconded by Linda Simpson, all but the Mossybacks approved. There was no discussion on the Treasurer's Report. Birthday dessert cards were handed out.
Old Business: Dawn and Jim Gregorio and Scott and Donna Mergele preformed an audit on the 2008 books and stated Lennard Grodzinsky did a great job. All is well.
New Business: Introduction of Prospective Members/New Members: Membership Chairman Ellie Johnson stated we have 227 members. Please pick up your 2009 membership cards and if you missed the banquet, she has your year pins. Guests were Andre Sytnyk, Dan Mollenhoff, Bruce Mayer, Marie Gagliardi, Don & Jo Kot. Re-joining tonight were Mossybacks Don and Jo Kot. Joel Thies was presented his plaque.
Connie said there was interest in moving the Newsvetter out of the Members Only section of our website and into the front page so it will have more visibility for everyone including non-members to see. No objections were stated. Lennard discussed the 2009 Budget and there will be a modest profit of $130 at the end of the year. Jeff Blue made a motion for approval, Benita Klaizner seconded, all approved.
Committee Reports: NCCC Governor Carl Hastings stated that the annual renewal packages are late, please be patient. In the past, the pin was in the membership package, but in an attempt to cut costs there will be no pins this year or in the future. NCCC has discussed raising the dues, but they can hold off doing that for awhile. Carl presented Rex Wilhoite with a plaque in appreciation for his service as the West Coast Region Secretary in 2008. Carl presented NCCC West Coast Region Top Point Getter plaques to Benita Klaizner for 1st Place Ladies and Jerry Klaizner for 3rd Place Men. Congratulations to Benita for also winning First Place Ladies in LVCA, and to Jerry for also winning First Place Men in LVCA. Carl also announced that LVCA would be getting an award from NCCC for getting the most points of any club in the West Coast Region. Carl stated there were 121 LVCA members who earned NCCC points last year; this is truly an award for the entire club.
Racer's Edge/Silver State: Bob McVane stated there were 12 members signed up for Racer's Edge this year, he hopes for more. There will be 8 events: 2 rallies, 2 drags, 2 autocrosses and 2 races. He needs a rallye master for one rallye. May 15-17 is the date of the first race and he needs more workers. We have been providing support for these races for 14 years including car show gridding, the Z-1-Z event, the ½ and 1 mile shootouts, pre-grid, final grid, and final safety. If you volunteer, your hotel room will be paid for by Silver State, as well as the welcome reception. Please see Bob to sign up. Ken Rees reported on the Drag Series. Please go to the Racer's Edge section on the website for lots of information. Marvin Maize's autocross courses are like dodging old people at Albertsons! If you need help on driving an autocross, we can get you some instruction. The Drag Series has been expanded to 6 races: April, May, June, August, and October. September's race will be against the Vipers. We need MORE LADIES to compete--Pat and Cathy have won enough jackets already!
Store: Vickie Colvin will hopefully have a lightweight denim jacket for display next month, a new item for the store. Sign up now to get on the order list. She had a fashion show of available items.
Sunshine: Sally McVane announced that Ann Wilson was in the hospital with a kidney infection and gall bladder removal. Don Lovell was in the hospital for 3 days and is feeling better now. Sally read a thank you note from Jerry and Benita Klaizner and announced that Captain Troy Rees USMC, son of Ken and Terry Rees was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in combat operations. David Gagliardi and Nicole Hunter got married February 7th.
Past Events: Connie stated that it was a cold day at the Cars & Coffee event Jan. 10th but 23 cars participated and $300 was collected for the charity. Bonnie Corbett reported on the Award's Banquet. If you would like to purchase the keepsake book, see her tonight or buy it at the store for $25. See the website for the article on the banquet. She passed out awards to those members who could not attend the banquet. Super Bowl Party: Sally said it was a good time and there was lots of food.
Upcoming Events: Ken Ackeret said to dress warm for the President's Run this weekend. Wrangler's Night March 14th: Bob Hulshouser said this will be a Community Service event. If you cannot attend you can donate $7 per person to earn a point. The donations go to Henry's Place, a camp in Utah to benefit needy children.
St Patrick's Day Parade March 14 will be down Water Street in Henderson. It is also a community service event. Call Benita to sign up. Roy Hoernke and Larry Duis reported on the Injured Police Officer's Fund Car Show on April 5th. Entry will be $25 per car and you will need to bring a drip shield for under your car which will be parked on the grass at Sunset Park. LVCA will be donating $100 to become a sponsor of this event. Derrek Yeltin with the Kiwanis of Las Vegas reported more on their invitation to tour Jim Roger's Sunbelt Car Museum, the largest convertible collection in the world. There are 40's, 50's and 60's cars, vintage movie posters and there will be light hors d'oeuvres and drinks all for $20. Bonnie stated that Corvette Roulette 2009 postcards are available now for everyone to please pass around everywhere you go, even out of state. Let's get the word out and the momentum going.
Fun Run to Yosemite June 19-22. Linda Benton presented this event which will include a poker run on Friday, dinner at Sierra Ranch, Saturday bus tour of Yosemite and beyond, barbeque and train ride, raffle prizes and a $10 donation to the Yosemite Fund, all for $200 per person. Hotel is $99/night. Sunday is an optional tour of the Sierra Scenic Byway with lunch and then dinner at a local casino. Dinner at Peggy Sue's on the drive home. See Linda or Dave Benton to sign up.
Clean Car Award: Greg Welch (Larry Leard tonight), said he was honored to judge the cars tonight. There were 10 cars in the parking lot with no LVCA logo sticker in their windshields. Congratulations to tonight's winner, Ken Rees. Greg stated that he received a letter from the Barrett Jackson Car Auction Director with a $25 gift card for our participation in last year's auction. Each volunteer will receive a pin.
Badge Drawing: Myrna Byrd would have won $60 if she was present. 50/50: Dave Benton won $110. Merchandise Raffle: Thank yous go to Findlay Chevrolet for donating calendars, hats, t-shirts and 10 tire nitrogen certificates.
