Mojave Magnum - Mojave, CA - April 9 & 10, 2016

Racers Events 4, 5, &6 are complete. We had a great time at Mojave California running the Mojave Magnum. We had five participants this year for the two day event. MKM Racing was the organizer with Mike and Marsha Borders, our own LVCA club members, being the M and K of MKM. This was Pat Russell's first time on the Magnum and he had a terrific time along with yours truly, Ken Rees, Mike Kerro and Jerry Cline. This was a three event weekend for RE and we all competed in the one mile event combo for the two days and each single day we were scored on the mile and one half. MKM was able to give us a speed for the half mile, one mile and mile and one half in each run. Each event is based upon the closest two runs on you selected index in 5 mile per hour increments. Sounds easy until you try to hold or correct your speed when you are approaching 180 to 200 MPH. We had a cross wind all day Saturday, so the wind was no help with the speeds. On Sunday was a different story with at least a 15 to 18 MPH tail wind. Cars got faster quickly.

Saturdays RE event # 4 mile and one half winner was Jerry Cline who had .9 MPH variance on a 175 MPH index. Sundays RE event #4 winner on the mile and one half was Ken Rees who had a .19 variance on a 190 MPH index. Our one mile combo winner for RE #6 was Ken Rees, who had a .1 mph variance on a 180 MPH index.

Top speed for the mile and one half was yours truly at 205.0 MPH, and I did it on Saturday in the cross wind. No nitrous oxide for me on Sunday or I would have been in low orbit and promptly marched off the runway:. Any faster and I would have broken Tech and would have been disqualified. Ken Rees was next with a 197.8 MPH, , Jerry Cline ran 188.4 MPH, Mike Kerro was next, but I do not know his final top speed, and Pat Russell ran a very respectful 182.8. Jerry's C-6 Z-06 was completely stock while Pat had an almost stock C-7 that had a different air intake along with Ken Rees with his C-7 Z-06.
