Racers Edge 14 events have been completed for the 2014 year. Our final
event was an Auto X with SCCA at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Sunday the
19th. We had 5 RE's competing in the event and two additional club members
running the Auto X. As in last years competition, the Champion and Challenger
were decided at the last event. I will announce the Champion and Challenger
winner's at the Awards Banquet, but similar to last year, the second
place competitor for the Champion lost by .003 of a second. Last year's
second place lost by .011 of a second. We only have one Challenger and
that is for the men's competition. No woman's Challenger this year because
only one person signed up that was not a previous Challenger winner.
Come on ladies. Come out and show the men how to win.
Gary Moore was the winner of this last event. He had a matching time
difference of .015 of a second, second place went to Ken Rees (Rocket
Man), .018, third was Lanny Lowman (Reboot) with a .031, fourth was
Scott Mergele (Sneeky Pete) with a .036, and fifth was Skip Kelly with
a .095. As you can see the times were really close. We also finished
in the top of the SCCA SSP Class in the same order. Scott tipped a cone
on his last run and it cost him the win. He would have been within .006
of a second :-(. Scott is a great competitor, as are all of the other
RE's so I expect him back for next years competition.
Not much extra funny stuff happened except for one "AW Shit"
to the guy who ran the first run with his emergency brake on. I said
I would not carry any tails but one of our RE's (that would be Skip)
earned a new RE nickname. He as ever after to be known as "Screech"
in all RE Competition.
Mike and Amy Groves, along with Charley Jones and Scarlett Stuart came
out to run/watch the event. They were not competing as RE's, but said
they were having a Great time. They all seemed interested in competing
in next years RE program, so we will see. Who knows who next years RE
Chairperson will be but there will be a program along with a couple
of rule changes and hopefully more events to compete in . Remember,
our events are not to see who is the fastest, but who is the most consistent.
Speed is not the winner, Consistency is the winner and that is what
the RE program is all about. This is not the Prius club, this is a Corvette
Car Club that is made up of people who own and drive Americas true sports
car. I truly believe most, if not all of our events, adds to your driving
experience and abilities.
Come out and Compete with us next year.
Thanks, Lanny Lowman RE Chair, 2014
